Never been to tail of the dragon but understand speed limits are strictly enforced 30 40 45 seem to be the norm. Beautiful place so I’m told

Sheriff’s cars aplenty for sure, but room to cheat too. When I was there three years ago there was a new Corvette off in the mountain side of the road with no left quarter panel, it was in the rocks.

I don’t know Drew, in my younger days in northeast NC I saw Hazel, Donna and Agnes and many lesser storms that caused massive flooding and tornadoes. Patterns shift and weather changes. One of the largest rain forests in the world is now called the Sahara Desert.
Yep. And don't forget Camille in 1969, although it hit Virginia worse in the mountains after coming up from the gulf...it was the second most intense hurricane on record, after the 1935 one. It killed 259, 153 of them in the county I was hiking in last week.

Morning all, semi-sunny
Aunt still in hospital, waiting for her to stabilize to get her to rehab, so hip just bruised, but head hit was not good.

some plants came in, so will plant after work today.

RS-mud daubers get into everything. Pool umbrellas, gazebo, and in the part of my hose nozzle that connects to the hose! So no surprise about the wand :)
TXDon- Pet resort fire , what a tragedy . Our place has sprinklers, but most don't.
Wngsprd - that's a lot of coffee- good to see you back and rolling along, any hike pics?

Back to work,
Stay safe and be well,

Here's one approaching one of the smaller falls...down to a trickle due to drought.

Was reading journal of George Washington 1770 trip down the Ohio river. Indians called one local creek Broken Timber’s, because of a hurricane had wiped them out. Very unusual to get widespread damage in Ohio from a hurricane.

66F with a steady, light rain @ 11:30, with a tad over 0.25" since midnight ... (y)

Calling for a high of 76F.

With the rain coming down, today almost seems like a day off ... which is kind of nice for a change ... :)

No big plans for the day ... other than maybe getting a haircut.

Probably do some fish room/tank maintenance and other cleaning around the house, plus paperwork organizing/filing.

Have one pin on the FEL (rear most pin on left lift cylinder) which is not taking grease and making a very annoying noise (dry) so will probably order one of those tools to clear the grease passages.

A while back I ordered a few white Orienpet Lilies:

Reading some more about them it seems like they might a good fit for the west side shop wall (assuming we can keep the deer from eating them ...) ... they like full sun and grow from 4' to 8' tall, which would provide at least some shade for that wall in the afternoon, maybe with our existing daylilies in front, along the edge of the bed.

Thinking about ordering a couple of mixes of them:

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ... (y)

Yup.

When we were stacking firewood yesterday I picked up a piece of wood which had some space underneath it and paper wasps had built a small nest. It appeared unoccupied.

On another one, I found a mouse nest and The Woman found the skeleton of some small critter under some pieces near the ground ...

Pests abound and will exploit whatever opportunities they can find.

Nice flower/plant picture.

Hope Aunt's recovery goes well ... (y)

Ok Kyle, you got me. Soon found a favorite sushi place in town after we moved and I made it a point to try every sushi on the menu, around 35 as I recall. None were cooked. So what is a cooked sushi roll?

Sadly, this is one of our places still not recovered from pandemic.

Good Morning!!!! 88F @ 10:15AM. Plentiful sunshine. High near 95F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

I think PG&E is on something like its third CEO in as many years, Rich. Most of the board has been replaced as well, and I don't think any of them live in areas effected by the PSPS events. They sure know how to spend money, though, what with all the helicopters flying the lines after every time they turn the power off. Then there's the golden parachutes given to each "retiring" CEO. And the money to go in and replace all the power distribution infrastructure in the burned over areas. They've got plenty of money, though, because the California Public Utilities Commission has let them raise electric rates twice in as many years, and it was already one of the most expensive in the nation.

Can't carry a tune in a bucket, but I sure love listening to music. Still buying CDs, last one was a "Best Of" from The Association. Marvelous harmonies...

The deer love lilies here, RS. They never even get to bloom. Maybe you'll have better luck with deer scram than I do?

Passed final inspection on the water tank this morning; forgot all about the inspection until the phone rang and the inspector was sitting outside the gate. He didn't even look at anything, and we spent most of the time BSing about this year's deer season. That's the way I like inspections to go.

Gonna try to get the ground leveled out and gravelled around the pump house this morning, then move the fire truck back into its parking place. I want to fill a barrel with water and start circulating it through a screen filter and the pump to see if I can get it to stop shedding rust particles. It's so bad now it clogs the nozzle. Are there nozzle designs out there that are more tolerant of contaminants in the water?
