I use my old 10/.22 or moms old bolt action Remington .22. I haven’t had many to shoot the last few years other than an occasional groundhog.

Here is a typical herd behind our house. It’s so common that the dogs don’t usually chase them, nor do they take off when the dogs are out.
If you cannot hunt with a firearm on your property, a crossbow is virtually silent and will kill a deer. All that venison.

While we shoot everything from 7.62 to 22 here regularly, hunting is limited to shot guns. But having said that, I much prefer beef or pork to venison. I’ll occasionally allow someone else to take one here though. It’s not particularly sporting though.

Good morning all. Chilling winds are dragging clouds down from the north, forecast predicts something will be dropped on us within the hour, not sure if that will be rain or snow.

I finally got around to replacing a rotten strainer post in the corner of a far field that went over in autumn. This is first time the ground has been firm enough to be able to take tools over on the tractor without making ruts.

Twenty yards away from where I was digging is a bridge that once allowed cattle and carts to cross over the railway to the fields on the other side. I may have said before that my first ever view of this place was also from that bridge, I walked over it with the auctioneer's brochure in hand, never expecting to be able to actually buy this piece of land when the farm was broken up for sale. This is a pic taken from the bridge taken on that spring day 18 years ago.

Neither I nor my family have any religious beliefs, so it shouldn't much matter what they decide to do to get rid of me once I am dead. Even so I do have a preference, I would like to be dropped into a hole where the tractor is in the first pic. That will be far enough away from the hedge to dig without having to do battle with tree roots like I did when replacing that strainer, yet still close enough so that the furthest reaches of the oak trees roots can make some use of whatever nutrients they can get from me.

These trees have given me lots of firewood, only fair I give them something in return :)
Nice pics! If they planted me near a tree, I would probably kill it....too salty!

Miss Ron.

PJ, nice pond.
Good morning, low temp 36, high 59°F. Wind E 11 mph. Sunny!

Got some nasty news yesterday, the DIL has 3 months to live at most. They (the doctors) are guessing it is cancer. She is bleeding somewhere and they can't tell where. Guessing the small intestine, which normally (if you can call it that) is non operable. She has been in constant pain since 2006. She was on morphine until it made her physically sick even with gravol, so that was the end of that. Tylenol doesn't touch the pain, morphine makes her sick so they gave her something else. The doctors are a little reluctant to shell out Oxycontin.

A town run is in the cards for today.

Have a safe day all
Prayers for being pain free.
My wife made a picnic yesterday and brought it back where I was splitting...I made a table with a centerpiece from a knotty split and plates from some thin slices of log.View attachment 693577
Nice! bet your getting stronger.
Got my grass mowed, it was tall and thick in some areas and almost non existent in others, that will all change over the next couple of weeks.
I have several other jobs to do but I’m suffering from Dragonass syndrome.
I’ll have to see how it goes.
funny.
Encountered a family of 6 pigs just off the driveway this afternoon.

Dinner!

Been busy! Took off work today. Got a lot done today. Picked up floorscrubber in Austin, got to eat BBQ at Southside in Elgin, sold Ford F150 for a friend, got the 2nd cv axle off of the kawi mule, it's on the bench. Need to clean/degrease/regrease one end before putting the new rubber boots on it. Still need to clean up a wire harness hack job by the battery. Change oil/filter/air cleaner. Not sure how much to charge wife's uncle for labor. I've got about 8 hours in it so far. Then I went to church youth group meeting this evening.

Also watched son show off on his yamaha old 80cc for the neighbor girls. He still doesn't use front brake enough....have to work on that. My kids are beggin me to get out my 85 XT600, that's been sitting with avgas in the tank for about a year at least. It needs a good going over, new front tire, front master cylinder, and fresh gaskets for the engine....and more.

Popgadget, you wear a lot of hats. Do you still have an old trials bike "bugsy" type riding hat? :)

Rick, I was about to ask about the green thorny briars....and then you answered me. Hate those buggers.

Hope and prayers for those in need. I had to skim through the posts, I was so far behind.

Prayers for our country. Buppies, how are you healing? My oldest brother had to get 1" spot cut off on arm. Had grown to almost an inch since December.

Rain finally stopped and several hot days ahead. I have built and flown another autonomous quadcopter and changed my Satellite Internet provider and apart from that I've done nothing and loving it. Internet is supposed to be twice as fast as the old one. Hope that's true. Seems OK at the moment.

Good morning, low 49 high 72°F. Wind E 11 mph. Sunny!
Today is the last day I will see the sun for 6 days. I had better make the most of it.

I have the road culvert to clean out at the ends as soon as it is light out. I know it is the Township ditch and culvert, but if I don't do it, then it wont get done. I am really surprised that they actually plow this road in winter and grade it once or twice over the summer.

At 11 I will be at the garage to get an oil and filter change on the Dodge and after that I will be digging out some ice beside the house. I've got my day cut out for me.

What a run around I got yesterday, looking for a C-19 shot. According to the Ontario health department website (it has a search engine that we punch in the first three letters and numbers of the postal code and it spits out the nearest 20 drug stores that you can get the poke at), the list came back and I did what it said under the listed pharmacy, call the pharmacy for an appointment. I did and got told I had to do it online, so I did yet another search to find out what incompetent department of the Ontario goobermint was responsible for the website. Phoned them up and got, 'oh, it was a mistake'.
So I suggested that this whole lockdown is a mistake and I should just carry on like I did 2 years ago. They weren't impressed with that statement. What I wanted to ask the pharmacy was the side effects of the vaccine they are doling out. For sure I don't want any side effects and the one the pharmacies are doling out causes blood clots in the brain (they claim it does this in women under 55). Yes I am a man and over 55 by almost 20 years, but if it will do it in women, then it will do it in men. Remember Thalidamide.
NOPE, I ain't getting that one. I will shoot for the Johnson&Johnson one shot poke, which is approved but not available yet.

Have a safe day all

55 going to 73.

Kyle, you have been busy!

Buppies, you ever find some ammo for that .22 hornet? I looked for some for you when you mentioned it a while back, but didn't find any.

Eric, sounds like you like to a lot of kissing.

Split wood for a few hours and brought up a load and stacked...was too hot. Not sure I have recovered enough to go at it again today, but need to beat the rain. Lots of other chores, too.
