Did you work at the station in Elizabeth City?

Our local station was an Esso, and was 29.9. But I used to go to the Amoco to buy the "white gas" to carry in an aluminum bottle to fuel my backpacking stove...it was a Svea.

I worked at the one on RT 17 north of South Mills, a tiny block building with dock on the Dismal Swamp canal, we sold thousands of cartons of cigarettes out of an old bookmobile that the owner drove there every day. People from VA to MA would come and buy dozens of cartons @ $2.00-$2.10 and $2.25 a carton.

I remember using TV stamps I got at the grocery store to get my first power tool, a Skil saber saw. Man, that was a long time ago. I'm on my third one, now a Makita 18V, but it still lives in that old red Skil plastic blow molded case.

75 for high today but very dry fire danger very high

Said on the local news tonight we just set a record for the longest stretch of days with no precipitation in March.

Definitely not dry here though ... rained pretty good earlier, but even before that it wasn't what I would call "dry".

It got to 74 here, a lot of southwest wind today, we are under an elevated fire danger advisory. Grilled burgers and dogs, had a salad with them.
I fed part of mine to Gracie and the one 21 year old cat, Charlie. She begs at the table like a dog. The other cats are pretty much indifferent about it. Had a trip to the pharmacy and the little country store just up the road. I helped Ellen get her new electronic keyboard set up and working, she had a piano at her old place but nobody wanted to move it, and honestly I’m glad. She’s a very good keyboardist and has an excellent singing voice. My daughter can play about anything with music or by ear. I can play H3ll and pick a chicken!

Ordered a mailbox alert system with range extender. The extender uses lora from the mailbox to a hub, then WiFi. The cheaper version was just WiFi from the mailbox, and mines too far for that. It will email or txt me whenever the mailbox is opened. Unit at mailbox uses 3 AA batteries. It will get screwed on back of mailbox. Has a switch to put on the door.
Hope it gets delivered.

One package that didn’t come last week was from lands end. Wife called them, and they sent a replacement via UPS. The one that didn’t show today was part of that order that was on back order. Son didn’t get Amazon package.
I really wanted a camera to put in the mailbox. Need a false back in the mailbox, need to secure it, but easy enough to remove to check sd card and change batteries. Will have to build that myself sometime.

I had some issues with mail theft back in the late '80s, BEF. I was ordering a lot of music CDs back then, and someone apparently took notice. Talked with the postmaster, who told me they'd turn it over to the postal inspector's office. Never heard anything more about it, but the thefts eventually stopped.

Sorry you're having to deal with that.

No Kites yet everything still on hold! We are actually in the process of moving to Idaho.
Hope the move goes smoothly.
Had someone in NY file an unemployment claim with my name and SS#. My work caught it in process.
Filled out some complaint/fraud forms with NY State and put credit freezes on all three reporting agencies.
Have to do each one separately now. What a waste of a morning.

🐶🏠

Stay safe and be well- and hope for the best for you Buppies
Oh my. Sorry sunny beaches. Scamming the unemployment too. Especially since they get extra money now. I wish they'd bring back tar and feathering in public.
Good evening!

Today was one of those days taking tech calls.......

1 was a guy bought a used machine, paid for it, and wanted me to check our database to see if it was stolen

3 were about older models, and when I asked for the serial number....got told that it didn’t matter, they were all the same. The callers also had not performed any troubleshooting and simply wanted to know what part most likely failed so they could order a replacement.

I was in one of those moods....so all 3 got the most expensive and hardest to replace part as most likely.

And last but not least, older machine with a transmission leak, the caller said the required oil was too expensive and had read on the internet straight 30W with an additive was the same. I asked him why they just didn’t fix the leak....they don’t have time. Told him I had no idea about the oil he wanted to use, but we would be glad to sell him new parts if it didn’t work. He hung up on me. :ROFLMAO:

You can’t make this stuff up.
Good day then eh? jk....
Poured first cup of coffee. 57° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 61° with good chance of rain in afternoon. More high wind warning in forecast. Got Mule back together. Took for a ride on local side road. Runs good. Still need to make rear windshield and install it. Going to be a conserve energy day.

Buckeye, high here yesterday was 69.2°. But wind was up around 30 mph.

Roy, hope some warm weather will melt some of that snow. I still have piles that will take awhile to melt.

Rich, that technical excellence demishes on bad work days. Retirement is very enjoyable.

jcmaurice6, welcome to Good Morning Thread.

Randy, hope they get papers.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.
Beautiful bird.
Yesterday took a very pleasant hike up in the mountains to one of the smaller waterfalls, and a cave. I'm always amazed and thankful of the work the CCC did on these trails. To get to this waterfall, they built stone steps straight down a 200 foot canyon. Still many patches of snow, but the trail was dry. Must have been an inversion, the temperature up on the mountain was 15 degrees warmer than down in the flatlands. Walked through several mountain laurel groves.
Sounds like a neat trail. was it steep?
Good morning! Balmy morning, 68˚F heading to the 80s cloudy, windy.

I tried to mow with Mom's craftsman riding mower yesterday and it did something strange.

It started with the clutch in, blade disengaged, gear in neutral, but when I let out the clutch (still in neutral and blade disengaged). it would die out every time. Any clues where to starting looking for the problem?

Then when I got home the garbage disposal was not working - just a hum. My wife found a you-tube of how to fix it, turning it with an Allen wrench at the bottom of the disposal.. It worked! 50% on the repair rate yesterday.

Texas will open up the covid vaccinations to 1-C starting Monday. They just redefined 1-C and not in accordance with the CDC - of course, Texas knows better. Since the virus does not care what occupation you are in to kill you, but your age has been determined to be a factor, the Texas 1-C is defined as anyone over the age of 50. This is going against the National recommendations that essential workers be given the vaccination next.

Kyle my T-mobile phone did not have as strong of a signal in Lee county. It kept a signal 90% of the time on the road but just with 1-2 bars. AT&T still has a better signal in your county. At Mom's I had 2 bars same as here, which is one less than AT&T there, but here it is one more bar than AT&T.
Hope you get 'er fixed. My phone uses sprint for carrier. we get about 2-3 bars at home most of the time. Yes, ATT has better coverage, but far worse prices.
Full service, S&H, and we had Gold Bond. I was partial to going to the Sunoco station when young as it had cheapest gas, 180 or 190 I think it was called.
We got S&H, and Gold stamps, the Diamond Shamrock stations gave stamps and dishware. They had pyrex type bowls, either gold or avocado colored on outside. They also had nice smoked colored glassware. We had a full set of all of them.
Industrial Tools & check, the hydro went out here at 5:35 P.M.
Have you guys still got it?

Is hydro water or electricity in Canada?
Ehh?

Prayers for Buppies. My oldest brother called me and told me he had a spot cut off on the skin above his elbow. He's 71. His first IIRC.

Yes, the newbie found out I was "hazing" him and he, his boss and I had a good laugh. I was making him crank up and down the Z axis by hand on the Bridgeport clone mill. (I have a cordless drill and an adapter I use to crank it up or down). I told him to change hands often to keep his arms symmetrical. He did pretty good.

Welp, the scroll compressor at work "blew a split crack in it's big filter", oil went everywhere, and I found it shut down this AM. Mainly wondering why it pressured up so high in the filter. We may have bigger problems. It had been running fine, never shutting off, throughout our ice age, until now.

I recommend Rick find a new compressor guy. I'm not having great success, trying to keep old pieces of sheet running.

My son said something he shouldn't have, and got in trouble tonight. He is not getting to use electronics for a while. It's killing him.

Was contemplating a trip to the coast next week, but looks like it will be 50's type weather at nights, so water will be too chilly to have fun. Wifey wants to go later when we can better enjoy it.

Since the new computer boots up in about 17 seconds, I usually turn it off now. A new phenomena.

Rich, Volusia Flat Track on NBC Sports Gold starts tomorrow. Only $1.99 per month. I believe it includes Daytona roadraces, but not 100% sure. Cheaper than Mad Magazine. What a great magazine those were.
