Had a plastic one on our ranger did not like it at all got glass one that opens all the way up expensive but very happy

I've looked at the glass ones, that swing up. I'd likely catch it on a tree branch in the up position. I'm thinking of just fixed glass that can be easily removed in the spring. I never had on on our Polaris XP 700 and lived thru that.

The "hardened" poly ones get pretty good reviews, for durability, so .. I'm investigating them as well.

Nice Farmall Workinonit, my first tractor was an "A".

I agree. They made so many of these tractors, the dealer in Washington NC told me the A's, Super A's
and 140's and tobacco built Beaufort County. Bet it was like that in SC too, corn, tobacco, collards and cotton.
Nice rolling cultivators. Fun to just look down and watch that disk or cultivator working right below you.

Nice A. Yep, 140s were king around here for tobacco until the 2 row stuff came along. I've always liked my rows 4 feet anyway. Yea, those rolling cultivators are gonna be nice. I'm going to pick up a set of hillers at Ag South(Supply). I have a 2 row subsoiler bedder but I would need to work out a set of row markers for it.

Sounds just like Kalifornia in the summer time, when PG&E turns off the power so it won't burn down what's left of the state. Welcome to my world!:pullinghair:

Careful! THEY .. are listening.

Finished the day by cutting up another steel Kubota pallet, and have enough rectangular tubing to make another pair of firewood pallets now. Latest batch of Harbor Freight cut off discs didn't last very well, but at least they don't explode like the previous ones did.

Think I'll do some Amazon review shopping today and try to find a better source. Maybe some of you guys have a favorite?

The larger (7" ?) 1/16" thick Diablo and Avanti cutoff discs from the Depot have worked well here, but IIRC, I have never tried their 4 1/2" offerings.

Got to be careful using that large of disc on 4 1/2" grinder though, as they aren't rated for the speed. HF speed control box can be used to the slow the grinder down to where it's safe(er) though.

(Edit: Haven't used their thin cut-off wheels, but I was impressed with the 1/4" thick SAIT grinding discs the LWS carries - seem to be a quality product, although pricey. They make cut-off discs as well, so maybe given a try ...)

Great winter morning...was 26 when I went out and getting to 40.

...this is how winter is supposed to be...cold, windy and sunny...had our first sunset and sunrise in a long while...this is much better than fog, drizzle and such. Nice to have frozen ground to walk on instead of mud and soggy lawn. Dragged some broken off magnolia limbs/leaves down to the brush pile this morning...much easier on frozen ground. Still have some snow patches left.

Snow and sleet and freezing rain predicted to start tonight...really bad sounding, especially for folks just south of us...3/4 of an inch of ice on a tree will be devastating here. Went to TSC to refill a LP tank, but they were sold out empty...also didn't have the battery that my generator uses...but pull starting it has been easy. Picked up a new tire for the wheelbarrow, which has been getting a lot of use since the tractor is parked. Replaced the tire and used the wheelbarrow until dark last night bringing in firewood. What a great wheelbarrow it has been...big sister gave to us as a housewarming gift over 40 years ago...was a Hechinger brand contractor model with nice oak handles, thick steel and strong axle and frame...painted blue, but wore off many years ago. Has mixed plenty of concrete, hauled all kinds of wood dirt and kids around. Hechinger was a great store...before the HDs and Lowes, etc got big...whatever happened to them...I think they were a chain out of Maryland.

Ron, my wife and I think your squirrel phots is our favorite ever. You could get that published if you wanted. We've been watching the chipmunks chasing each other this morning...must be mating season...hardly ever see them in the winter...and all the evening grosbeaks have told their friends about our bird feeders...never seen so many and for so long a stretch.

Don, the big boom has been explained, but we were hearing big ones as the 2' icicles fell off the roof the other day...so you may start to hear new ones.

Workin' ...do you ever watch the RFD TV show, Classic Tractor Fever? great show for old tractor lovers...they also have a lot of "You tubes" to watch.

Buppies, sorry about the ice storm mess you have...mine seems smaller in comparison.

We have so few power outages that I've never installed a connection to the house for the genny...so last week's ice storm, just ran a twist lock cable with 4 outlets (with its own circuit breaker) through the window from which we run 12 gauge extension cords to the refrigerators and to power a lamp and phone chargers. Ran it about an hour, 3 times a day to refresh the frig. So, no water except what we store in buckets inside for prep and from the rain cisterns. We never even had a generator until 5 years ago...after one ice storm I built an ice igloo to move all the freezer and refrig food to on the north side of the house...power was out for 5 days, but that was back in the early 90s...last really bad ice storm.

Prayers for the folks in Texas.

Rick when I had implants a number of years ago I see best thru glass. The poly can have rainbows in it in direct sunlight or distortions. Good luck in your search. I also have rear glass in to prevent back flow of dust, two handle turns and she is out

wngsprd and buppies, you all take care tomorrow. I am now hearing 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice in the latest reports. wngsprd, I think Hechingers got ran out of town by Home Depot.

Just came in from setting 100 t-posts up for another temp pasture. I'll be calling my wood guy this afternoon and getting the last 6 acres under fence. I am so done with t-posts. Oh well. It was good exercise.

Hope all come through the day better than it started.

The "hardened" poly ones get pretty good reviews, for durability, so .. I'm investigating them as well.

I've not yet considered installing a windshield on the RTV, Rick, but I've had many windscreens on motorcycles. All have been plastic, and the best ones were made from a polycarbonate like Lexan. I say that because they are very durable, easy to keep clean with Pledge furniture polish, and don't scratch easily. Acrylic screens (think Plexiglass) are fragile, scratch easily, and yellow/discolor with age. I once made the mistake of raising a bike with a Lexan screen that hit the garage door opener hard enough to bend it over at about a 30° angle. Made an ugly sound, but when the bike came back down the screen straightened itself out and there were no marks to testify to my stupidity.

for some reason distilled water was on sale for the same price as regular water so picked up a gallon of that today, to build up
my water supply at home. And took a plastic bucket and filled that up with water in the tub.
I'm planning on my generator working when the ice knocks out the electricity so shouldn't be an issue.
But just in case Murphy arrives...

folks shopping in front of a snowstorm can get pretty antsy. I bought some blueberry muffin mix I needed and didn't dally.
Home to make up package for accountant and will drive it over to him when weather clears.

Rick, nice pic of the roads. Not something you see very much of I'm sure.

Yes that is exactly what I thought. It was so cold that I thought a big bird died in flight and crashed onto the roof.

Kyle the good news is Ron has closed the door. The temp has held at 18˚F for the last few hours so we are finished with the single digits. The wind has shifted and is coming from the SE. Also good news (for your kids) More snow predicted for tonight after midnight.

Also found this
"What happens is, during the cold winter months, wood trusses in your attic and/or on your outside deck contract and make a loud booming noise as they move. The same is true in the morning as they warm back up from the sun hitting the, they expand, making a loud boom or bang noise."

Hope your ceiling repairs didn't crack.

Good morning! 0 now, supposed to make it to 23 today. Snow in the forecast for tomorrow. 10 day forecast has some temperatures near 40.

rs - Betsy Kling is still on Cleveland TV? I watch 8, they seem to have decent weather forecast in the morning. And Melissa Mack in the evenings.....she gets into the weather forecast....quite entertaining.

Cleared the sidewalk with the shovel last evening. Didn稚 bother with anything else. It is crunchy when walking around with the snow over the ice. With the forecast, a lot will be gone next week.

Phones have been quiet at work...other than calls about auction machines  Billy Bob buys an auction special for just over scrap value, then wants tech help to fix it for free because they can稚 afford new parts that may not even be available anymore. And usually the machine is so old, no one was around when it was new, or in my case, have forgotten how it functioned. What a PIA.

Covid cases are way down locally and in the state.

Sounds like we are gonna gain a couple of emus for the flock. Wife has found someone locally that has a breeding pair and is likely gonna get some eggs to hatch. This should be interesting. Wonder how Oscar the Friendly Goose will handle competition?

Everyone that is dealing with power and heat issues, you are in my thoughts.

Everyone stay safe out there

You gonna name them Lemu and Doug?

Good morning, the temperature is -13°F and going to a high of 16. Wind S 2 mph. Sunny!

We are slowly climbing out of the deep freeze. By next Tuesday we could see above freezing temps.

Nothing is planned for today, so I will conserve energy.

Have a safe day all

I made a windshield for my old golf cart from water clear vinyl, it snapped on and was a tight fit. If it ever got a little dull I’d just go over it with my heat gun, carefully of course.

Layering up with the insulated Carharts and then headed out while the sun still shines ...

Sad day. RIP Rush.

Yep. I was Director of Volunteer Security at the 1992 Republican Convention in the Houston Astrodome. I got to meet Rush and had two long conversations with him. He was extremely gracious and loved to just stop and chat with people .. making all feel very welcome.

He'll be missed.
