Good evening! 14˚F now, clear skies, heading for our coldest morning tomorrow.
My mom's central heater broke and part is on order. Good thing we designed the house with split AC/heat systems and the other is heating part of the house. She has had about 20 rolling blackouts today lasting about 15-30 minutes each. my Brother near Dallas has had 11 rolling blackouts. We have not had any. ?? Took the down time to do a first in my life time event. Shoveled Snow. It stayed in the teens all day. IMG_4385.JPG

rswyan do you throw cracked corn in piles or sling it about

When I put it on the ground I usually sprinkle it around with a scoop ... and usually only right around the base of the feeders where the critters have packed the snow down.

This can result in as many as 50 - 100 birds at a time at the base of each feeder pole.

Probably have seen as many as 300 birds at a time combined (all feeders) out back.

Condolences toy you and your family Randy.

We got far less snow this morning than predicted. So far this evening, we are getting freezing rain....not snow. Gonna get up early and decide if I need to run the the snow blower or have an extra cup of coffee.

Had rolling outages of any business system involving a computer today. Company I work for is owned by a TX based company. The rolling power outages was affecting the servers in TX.....and productivity in Ohio. Phones were quiet today.

Everyone stay safe out there

When living in the south, you can tell if someone moved down from the north. The first thing they do is clear out the driveway, after a storm

I spent about 1.5 hours today shoveling the driveway. Got a good workout in the process and can sure feel it now.

I started a trend though. Neighbor across the street was met by his wife and handed a shovel when he got home.

But then we are supposed to get another 8" to 10" of snow this week. With 16" of snow in the driveway, his wife wouldn't be able to get out of the driveway with her car.

We had four RBO's at LCR today. All began on the hour and lasted exactly 40 minutes each time. Patricia had none but .. was surrounded by areas with power out most of the day .. some still out.

Part of this .. is a result of about 25,000 megawatts of wind turbines, in W. Texas, being frozen up from ice storms, and non-operable. This demonstrates that reliable power generation MUST be from all available sources. Relying on Solar and Wind only is the biggest fairy tale ever.

Natural gas fired power plants .. are still the most efficient/ effective / reliable source of power we have.

Another First today. Our first rolling blackout. They finally found the switch to our neighborhood to cut the power tonight. Outside temp 10˚F. Not too bad, blackout only lasted 45 minutes. House stayed at same temp 68˚F. UPS kicked in so wifi phones and internet stayed up. Water still has good pressure.

Good evening all. 1F for the start, overcast, windy. Sky cleared quickly, windy all day, and high temp 11F. Cold water froze up at sink in Master bathroom as well as shower. Trickled hot water till cold water came back. usually it the hot water side that freezes. Kept losing power in morning about once an hour for 10 seconds or so, less often this afternoon, several people in neighborhood have it worse. Shoveled driveway and walk in -13F windchill, wore insulated boots for second time since in Texas, along with lined jeans :) rest of day napped, fed fire and puttered on computer. Pic is from yesterday, looks similar just whiter today .
