Wingsprd, your porch stop at the winery sounds wonderful.
Roy, glad doc visit went well.
Paul, I bet there's a lot of stuff that gets borrowed from you. Enclosed trailer very nice to have.
Your daughter must be spoiled by a very handy Dad.

Good morning, the temperature is -10°F and the high will be 7. Wind NNW 10 mph. Sunny!

An energy conservation day for sure. Monday is supposed to be warm (21*)so I will put the chains on then. They are the fronts and easy to put on.

Have a safe day all

Actually, I think that I’m spoiled by a very supportive family!
Sadly it took a year as an invalid to make that obvious to me.

And yes, I think that my shop is the first stop for friends and neighbors with a project. But I really enjoy it.

Morning all!
I'm up way to early today! Arthritis pains from working.
Looks like we are in the high teens this morning. Going to be a cold week with low teens at night and just hovering around the freezing mark during the day.
Speaking of chains. I removed the concrete busting cross chains on mine and added some regular 5/16 links I picked up at Tractor supply. It is slow going with a hammer and chisel and some pry bars but I am getting it done.

I got one set almost done before my hands and back gave out. I want to add links connecting the rows.
After a little rest I made my wife a chain also:

Will take the weekend off and go back to the tractor Monday.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

Good luck with your chains,
Those heavy ol double ring chains would get excellent traction in deep snow over unfrozen ground or in mud.
They were the roughest riding chain on hard ground or pavement.
I haven't driven on a set of those since the mid 60's when that was about all we had.
When you say you want to add links connecting the rows are you referring to links to go around the circumference of the tire?
They are difficult to get the right length and a pain to fasten into the cross chains, good luck.

Good Morning!!!! 40F @ 4:00AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 59F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.
I'll see some sun today and Sunday, but every one of the remaining days in the 10-day looks wet.:cloud9:

Sounds like a very nice way to spend an afternoon, Bill, and take full advantage of rare warm January sunshine.

Sorry you missed getting your ticket, Ron. I had a chance to buy one yesterday, too, but I don't have that kind of luck.

Your Amazon search feng shui must be stronger than mine, Chris. The N95 masks I see there are only available to those in "essential" services, or those that qualify for a "free business account", whatever that is. Lots of fake KN95 masks, though, if you just wanna warm feeling while wearing something that offers little real protection.

Speaking of Amazon, there have been several articles published about their variable pricing strategies, similar to what travel agencies and airlines use to price seats on airplanes. I recently got a better deal on a Makita tire inflator by using the Google "shopping" feature, and delivery was quicker than what I usually get from Amazon, too. And they "forgot" to charge sales tax.

Glad your sense of taste is coming back, Rich. My dad lost his with his first stoke, and it never came back. Took a lot of his enthusiasm for life away, along with the paralysis. What sort of connector did you use for your shore power setup? I need to rig something up on the van...

Good news on the vaccine front is that Johnson & Johnson is only weeks away from announcing phase 3 trial results and asking the FDA for emergency authorization to dispense it's "one and done" vaccine. It only requires regular refrigerator temperatures, which will greatly ease the distribution problems associated with the two vaccines currently being used.

Our county may not be getting the same amount of doses as more populated counties in the state (the latest CoVid scandal in California), but they're very serious about contact tracing. And that may be part of what's driving the infection rate statistics higher. The more you look, the more you find.

This latest go-round with the bank has me taking a second look at how I manage personal data and how reliant I've become on data storage outside my immediate control. For example, I maintain a list of handy bookmarks on a Yahoo portal that I use frequently, and I'd be hard pressed to reproduce it if that portal went away or the network went down for some reason. i've also gone to paperless statements at several places, and learned the hard way that transaction documentation is only available for a few years into the past. I don't believe in New Year's resolutions, but I do need to take a more active role in maintaining my own records.

Those slippers look pretty comfy, RS. Let us know if they meet your stringent testing requirements, OK? There aren't enough quality slippers in the world right now...

How did you figure out how long you've been a Prime member, Drew? I just had a go on the Amazon website, and there didn't seem to be any way to tell.

Nice going on the phone jockeying, Don. At the bank yesterday I learned that they'd not only delayed the wire transfer it took me over an hour to set up, they cancelled it, and there were no records showing who it was going to. I had to dig out the email from the seller with their bank info, then sit with the bank manager while she tried to set up a new wire. It took her almost an hour, too. The icing on the cake was the fifty dollar fee for her time! But she said she'd be able to waive it, but only after it hit my account. F'ing banks! Might be time to look for a better one, again.

I was at the bank for almost two hours getting this mess sorted out, and in all that time there were only two other customers. Part of that is because this branch is in Paradise, CA, and most of their customers moved away after the fire. And I'm not complaining about not having to stand in line. Before that I dropped by the post office to mail a couple of packages, and I was the only customer there as well. Paradise is making a strong effort to come back, but it's gonna be a long time before things return to anything even remotely resembling normal.

My favorite Thai restaurant in Paradise is up and running again in a new location, and they seemed to have in house dining open again. I used takeout, ordering a coconut/pineapple/peanut red curry that was just delicious. There was enough for leftovers for lunch today, too!

The hummer feeders were empty when I got home, so I filled 'em up so the little buggers won't go hungry. While doing that, I noticed that the weeds were starting to pop up all over the place. So while it's dry today, I'm gonna take a ride with the buggy with the sprayer on the back and give 'em all a drink, too.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

15F and cloudy @ 08:30, only headed up to a high of 28F for the day. Some snow on Monday it looks like, followed by rain and snow on Tuesday. Highs throughout the Tend Day range from high 20's to low 40's, with some rain and snow throughout.

All this talk of E-muffins caused me to take a peek in the 'frig the other day. There was one lonely Thomas' muffin in there, so I took it out and toasted it up and slathered some butter on it and it ate it - was very tasty. (We often have them here, but I don't usually eat them ... mostly just because I don't usually eat a morning breakfast of any kind) Like them with peanut butter as well (with honey or jam)

Amazon delivered speaker stands late yesterday afternoon, got those assembled last night. Came with snotload of hardware for mounting speakers but I'm still missing the two screws and nuts to mount the brackets to the stands.

Got most of the dishes done last night, just a little more to finish up this morning. Need to get some salt put down on the steps.

Also refilled hopper and squirrel feeder yesterday afternoon, all others good for now. Feeders went empty for several days this past week, and it seems like there are less birds around now, although I did notice a good-sized crowd of starlings and other blackbirds while filling up feeders yesterday. Be interesting to see if others come back or if they have moved on. Good amount of action out there already this morning though. Need to wash out and refill birdbath today.

Beyond that, the three S's, and jigger some things around in living room, assemble tv stand, and see if I have a long Cat5e or Cat6 ethernet cable in stock.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

Lou, did you ever try siping your tires for snow work? You must get more snow than any of us.
No need to sipe with chains, and likely nothing works better than chains, including going into the woods.

Chains sure will scratch up pavement though. Are your farm roads gravel?
turf, hybrid, R4, R1 lot of options, wonder which works the best? Probably tracks...but not including them,
if you wanted the best possible snow traction, which tire would you choose? Probably well discussed in the Transportation
threads... We need a comparison test; I've seen the ones on dirt/turf but not snow.

Nice ...

RS, hot sauce of any type was something I liked. Not any more. Gives me a upset stomach.

Dad was same ... used to say "I like _____ (fill in the black with whatever hot/spicy thing), but _____ doesn't like me"

Looks like there might be some happy folks up there around Novi eh ?

;)

24-35 today. Bringing my big enclosed trailer home later, hopefully, it’s been at my father in laws house in Delaware for two years. We took it up there and loaded a bunch of her stuff in it so she could rent the house right before I got sick and it’s sat there ever since. I might sell it as I don’t use it much, obviously. It’s an 8.5x20 and will haul more than I want to load nowadays.
We are going to donate most of the stuff to local charities.
Not much else planned. BEF prayers for you.
Have a good day.
