Good morning!!!!

I've been over the Going To The Sun road a few times.

We've only been over it once; about 1992 I think, and it was so foggy and cloudy that we couldn't see anything; it was a wasted trip.

25°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 37° today. Precipitation is supposed to move in after midnight tonight, probably some variety of frozen stuff.

Wife made a call to HughesNet yesterday to discuss our terrible service. She told them of our results from Fast.com (anywhere from 1 to 3 mbps), and the guy recommended another sight that they use. Her phone tested at 6.1 mbps, which he said was similar to his results from his remote test. He also noted that was much lower than their standard of at least 13 mbps. He opened a ticket to look into it when we have clearer skies, which will probably be a few days. But, at least they're admitting something is wrong. It's a start.

That's a good-looking cabinet, Paul. HF attenuator is always a good thing, and I wish more builders would use those dual jacks. What is the switch for?

Happy Birthday to Roy's sister and Mrs. Bird.

Hope everyone has a safe New Year's Eve and Day.

Kyle stepdaughter lost an Oak due to Oak wilt. Then uneven rain make the tree weaker and more prone to insects mistletoe etc.
prayers for all especially Jay/Peg, Kyle's daughter, David(moss)/remodel/divorce, RNG/fire, Ron/hearing/son/furnace, Jim/sister & family, Phil/wife's eyes, Randy/health, and Country.
stay safe and health you all.

Yes, aligning splitter to grain as close as possible...These really big Oak rounds are harder than most anything, since they've been dead for a while. They are tough on chainsaw teeth too. You can make about 10 cuts, and then it is time to change the chain.

Glad the master cylinder rebuild came out OK, Paul. The ones on the old vehicles I usually work on almost always have to be replaced or sleeved due to pitted bores. Is the brake fluid used in airplanes superior or special than what us mere mortals use in our cars, trucks, and motorcycles? And BTW, what kind of paint are you using on the speaker cabinet? Maybe an epoxy to withstand all the rough handling?

When I was splitting oak a couple days ago, Kyle, I came across one piece that was rotten inside and held a large grub of some sort that had chewed it's way quite far into the healthy wood. The hole it left behind was almost a quarter inch across, much bigger than any carpenter ant I've seen would leave. No idea what it was, but I sure hope it's not doing the same in standing trees.

They say "it's always darkest before the dawn", and it seems like that's pretty much where we're headed, at least from a medical and political standpoint. Not a good place to be, but then that' life thee days, isn't it?

Trans disassembly went smoothly yesterday, but the shaft that needs the circlip groove turned out to be harder than the cutter bit, so there will be something of a delay while I find one that will work. The lathe I bought back in 2010 during the Great Recession came with a large number of cutters from the ThinBit company, but they're all made from high speed steel. I'm hoping they're still in business, and also have carbide offerings. But I was able to get the shaft chucked in the lathe, and get the cutter I had properly positioned without having to remove the adjacent gear, so that's a very strong sign I'll be successful if the correct bit can be located. I also need to do some more homework to determine the correct depth for the groove, as the one account I've read had it deep enough that the circlip I have would be rattling around on the shaft.:confused2: But it was nice to see an old friend in person for a change, instead of imagining what they look like while chatting on the phone or composing a text message.

Another package held a fancy new jacket from Klim, a name I don't know how to pronounce but that has emerged as something of a leader among so called "adventure" clothing in the past few years. I didn't order it, instead it was an honorarium from my motorcycle club as a thank you for the years I spent helping out with their web site. I'd been contacted by one of the directors, who asked my size, and who was told I didn't need or want a new jacket. But there it was anyway, and two sizes too big, with a club patch and my name embroidered across the chest. Oh well, it can keep company in the closet with similar sweat shirts and jackets from another club I used to belong to...:confused2:

I have seen some with some big weird grubs, where they bore an almost square hole, like a mortising bit. Should have put 'em in a jar and used them for fishing bait.

Wish I had a jacket like that. I've heard good things about Klim. You better wear it, or I'll tell on you. LOL .

Thinbits used to be offered in carbide. They were known for offering the exact width you needed to groove snap ring grooves or oring grooves.

45 outside this AM. Maybe the high today too. Rain moving in.

Got back in town, unexpected. 2020 has been pretty bad for us, took another hit with my transmission going out on my Chevy. And the drain field looks like it is going to be a top end system as the water level, rock and general soil conditions will not support a conventional system. This farm has been in around over a 100 years and now the county and state are telling me the soil is not right.

I'll be glad to put 2020 behind us tonight. As I am sure many of us are. On the bright side, my wife continues here absolutely amazing recovery, having passed her post-op milestones. Yeah, they monitor her for a few years, before giving her the clean bill of health. I have not managed to break down mentally or physically despite the various challenges presented on all fronts.

Another piece of good news, my porch project will be completed today as I set the last porch post up. An 18 month schedule, interrupted by most anything and everything one could imagine. And to think, I told my wife I could do it in three months. LOL.

Good bye 2020.

Happy New Year to you all!

Stay healthy, and may good fortunes find you in the New Year.

Many will be glad to put 2020 in hindsight. Sorry about your toils, but your wifey's recovery tops all! Health blessings are the best.

And it's my wife's 77th. I wish a Happy Birthday for both of them.

Happy birthday to Margaret and Linda!

IT IS RAINING HERE!!! We need it. I'm hoping the stream flows enough to overflow the pond, hopefully pushing some of the duckweed out.

Eric, I have to admit, when Robert Downey Jr played Sherlock Holmes, I had to put on the closed captions to understand him. The movies were great, his murmuring accent, not so much.

Windows 10 had an update yesterday...wish any "upgrades" would leave custom display settings alone.
Win 10 is OK....better then some previous, not as good as others....but it's a PITA to reset my display settings...

Must be why my computer was frozen this morning, had to do 2 hard reboots, then a normal reboot to get it working again. Set me back a couple hrs already.

Happy birthday to your sister.

Happy Birthday to Mrs Bird and Roy’s Sister Linda.

Picked up the Dewalt shear at HD. Already tried it out on my Bosch impact. Works great on a piece of 26 gauge barn siding I had in shop. I do not know how long they have been out. But I think my hands and arms are going to be happy next spring.
