I have had motorcycles since I was 12, but as they have improved in performance, the roads and other drivers have not.
Because of that I chose a Harley for a project. They always impressed me with how crude and poor performing they were. In other words just what I needed to save me from myself.
They don稚 accelerate, turn or stop well, so there would be no temptation to put myself in harms way.
I found a pretty much unmolested 74 sportster that hadn稚 run in 25 years, literally in a barn. It was a fun project, and I enjoyed it immensely.
It came to an end when I was riding through a small town doing about 30 when an SUV coming the other way abruptly crossed into my lane, hitting me almost head on.
I was wearing leathers and a good helmet and gloves so all my injuries were internal.
10 ribs, hip, clavicle and scapula as well as collapsing both lungs.
I still have a old trials bike that I putter around here on, but after more than 50 years of injury free riding, I知 done with street bikes.
Imagine how much force it took to pull the top triple clamp apart like that. The frame was bent and the engine case was cracked as well, so I elected not to buy it back from Haggerty.
