One other interesting thing from our big rain...found 3 mole holes up high on the hill that had apparently turned into springs...they look like volcanoes where sandy water had bubbled up from them during the rain, and flowed like lava to make small mounds. We're still seeing chipmunks running around other parts of the yard, so guess they made out okay in the way they built their tunnels.

It's been very windy and warm lately, but not the wind has died. So we have 30 degrees and dead calm, but it's supposed to warm up to a sunny 68 today.

Good morning clear sky and 44 this morning going to 50.

The front that came through last night was very narrow, but delivered about a half inch of rain in 15 minutes. Peak wind here was 32kts, still breezy today. Never lost power.

Lazy day yesterday, never left the property, but did get son’s woodworking project done as well as some more stuff relocated to it’s proper place.

Good morning! Reporting in with the second coldest temp this morning, our first freeze, 31˚F, clear skies, no wind, heading to the 70s.

Ron sorry to hear of the bad decisions in Michigan. Stores are very crowed here since the rise in covid cases but no talk of shutting down. The paper aisle is taking a big hit again but yesterday evening it only was about 3/4 empty. There are limits on TP this time around. Grocery re-stocking seems to be keeping up.

We are still having Thanksgiving. Has anyone canceled their Thanksgiving get together?

I am headed to brother's in VA for thanksgiving, they have a Hepa 13 air purifier running and I'll take my own to run in dining room when masks come off.
Without them we would probably not meet, plus will wear masks at all times other than outside for walks.

very exciting news this morning about Moderna vaccine, super effective and doesn't have to be kept at 70 below like Pfizer vaccine.
Maybe we will have a Spring without masks. And shutdowns.

37F and mostly cloudy @ 07:00, clearing later and headed up to a high 45F.

Wind is still occasionally blowing hard enough to cause the big orange cat lying next to me to raise its head and look out the window.

Woken up this morning by The Squeak gently pawing at my lips ... I guess to see if I'm still alive ...

Got nyjer seed, cracked corn, and whole corn transferred into new containers last night.

Also fed fish second time, did some work on fish tank maintenance, washed dishes.

Plans for today include quick clean up demolition debris in master bedroom bath and spray down studs with bleach.

Then later trip to Menards to pick up order.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe start to their week ...

You sure those are not craw dads/ crayfish/ land lobster holes?

We'll still be having Thanksgiving ... but at home, by ourselves ... ;)

A workable vaccine would certainly be a welcome Christmas or New Year's present ...

Not having Thanksgiving Dinner this year. Just me and Sassy. But will spend lots of time on phone. Both sons and I feel this is the best plan for this year. We are hoping for a big celebration by Easter.
We did this for years when wife and I were Snowbirds.

We will be having both sons, daughter, daughter in law and grandson. But we all live on the same farm and rarely venture out.

Right now our plan is dinner on Saturday after Thanksgiving with son’s family of four, daughter’s family of three, Ellen’s dad and we two. Step daughter would stop by after work in the early evening.
But, this can change due to rapidly rising cases.

39 early, 58 later, the front brought one squall with 1/4” of rain and 35 mph wind, all in about 15 minutes.
Hard freeze Wednesday morning, then warming into the 60s for several days.
More garage time today and I might mow the weeds one last time as I still have the deck on.
Have a good day guys.

Good morning! Low of 34, going up to 62. Slight breezes.

Got out to the shop yesterday, started gluing up some pieces for the desk project. It will take a while, lots of pieces.... Today clamps come off the first glue-ups, then next set get done.

I didn't swap out the dust collector trash can which keeps getting 'sucked in', the that will be on the agenda while glue is drying.

Wng, it must be part of childhood memories of good times.... I also still "play" with how water moves and changes the materials in its path.... definitely don't play in raging flood waters...

Thanksgiving dinner will be with just the family (those living on our 'compound')(2 sons, DIL, 1GS) , the other half of family will celebrate together up in Colorado. I am sure we will FaceTime a little bit....

Gotta get moving, GS will be starting his online classes here shortly. A new learning experience for all involved, especially the teacher. A 7 year old can adapt surprisingly quickly to change....

Everyone have a great start to the week!

36°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 63° today.

We had rain here pretty much all day Saturday, starting with some booming thunderstorms passing through and waking us around 04:30. It stopped for awhile in the late evening, but then another round of heavy storms blew through just as we were going to bed. The heavier tornadic stuff I was watching as it made it's way up I-44 through Missouri missed us to the north.

We awoke Sunday morning to the sound of everything in the house shutting off, and only the sound of the high winds battering the front of the house remained for the next three hours. A check of the co-op's website found that 94% of their customers were without power. We went downstairs and got comfy on the couch. She worked on a small afghan she's crocheting, and I dove into a book of short stories I'd started but never finished. The light coming in through the walkout porch was almost enough to read by, but was supplemented with a small LED book light. Wife did the same. Power returned around 09:30-ish. With 25 mph winds much of the day, we decided to stay inside and "conserve energy." We watched a bunch of movies, something we haven't done much of lately.

Sorry about your neighbor, Roy.

New unit looks great, Ted. Nice work. It also appears that your wife is like mine, with the use of totes and baskets for everything.

Mostly_, that population boom in St. Charles County continues unabated to this day. It's even started to extend into nearby Lincoln County to the north. It seems everyone from St. Louis County is moving even further west. When I moved to St. Jacob IL in '05, there were about 800 people there. By the time I left in '13, it had grown to around 1200 people. Most of the people I knew there were originally from somewhere else. One next door neighbor was a fellow Granite Citiot. Where we live now, we are about 20 miles from the more developed areas of Fairview Heights and O'Fallon. However, as we watch the contant expansion east along I-64, we know it's only a matter of time before Clinton County IL becomes just like St. Charles County MO.

We usually just have immediate family over for Thanksgiving, Don. This year, it's looking like us and the youngest stepson, and maybe his girlfriend. My Wife talked to her aunt over the weekend. We usually celebrate Christmas Eve at her house in Granite City, along with the rest of her Dad's side of the family. That's not happening this year, as her aunt, as well as all of one cousin's family except one daughter, all have Covid-19 right now. Her aunt is in her 70s and has had a myriad of health problems over the last few years, but says she only has mild symptoms from this. So, looks like a quiet Xmas at home this year.

I haven't been in any stores in awhile, but have friends who posted yesterday on Facebook pictures of their local store shelves, all empty of paper products ... again. (sigh)

"Spitting" rain is a term I heard growing up in Southern Illinois, and occasionally still use. Also references similar snow or sleet.

/ Good morning!!!! #121,920
The storm blew through after dark. It POURED definitely not spitting. I heard a couple of thumps. It turned out to be a couple of 2 inch branches hitting the ground. The wind blew the leaves onto piles in the corners which should be easy to get up. Very few leaves left up in the trees.

Since I went plant based Thanksgiving dinner isn't what it used to be. My wife and I would forgo dinner since our daughters are far away but my sister in law can't let it go. My wife thinks we will do some kind of online get together. A lot of stuff this year isn't the same.

Chris
