Buckeye that water heater looks nasty. Do you have really hard water?
Suggests that we all ought to pull that panel off periodically and look in there.
.
Have a water softener.
I have never seen a heating element rusted up like these 2 are. This is a GE geo spring hybrid, that the heat pump went out on after 3 years. The tank is insulated, and there was styrofoam insulation between the cover and elements.

Hope the storm doesn’t get you too bad.

Real foggy here this morning. Supposed to stay cooler today, only 69° now. Nothing on the radar.

Slept in chair again, spoke too soon last night, shoulder and arm hurt real bad last night. Could not lay down, hurt in the chair.
Already aggravated it this morning getting my phone out of the side crack in the lazy boy.

Got my brush chain yesterday, heavy little box. Was hoping to pull some trees growing up in a fence. Fence needs to get removed also, but not in this heat.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Randy, have a good party. Nice to have everyone together.

Concerning the lathe, I confess that initially we did originally hire a technician, but after 2 days and $2000, the parts were sitting on a roll around cart....and I had to put it back together. I had the luxury of seeing his attempts, and had a decent blueprint. But also it had sat for over a month, because I had been busy, and I wanted to lap the clutch plates before installing them.

We just had a wonderful thunderstorm roll through. Woke me up at 4am. Been trying to catch up here.

Happy birthdays Randy and Ken!

You folks on the eastern seaboard, batten the hatches.

BEF, water heater looks bad. We have a commercial 3 phase water heater at work, that gets no maintenance. It needs cleaned out, new anodes, and it has 6 elements that need replacing.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 59° with some clouds this morning. Heading to 79° with much needed rain. Got dogs groomed as planned. Shopping completed. My Aunt spent the day with me after shopping. Good laid back day. Hope to beat rain and finish siding trim done today.
CV for Michigan is 81,621 cases. 6199 deaths. Oakland county 11,357 cases. 1084 deaths. Cases for state are going up about 600+ a day. Mostly from people getting together in crowds.
Hope sky this morning is a good sign of rain.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 4:45AM. Sunny. High 102F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Funny story, Bird. Glad no one was hurt!

Another EverReady Bunny award for you, RS!

Hope you get the rain that red sky predicts, Ron.

If all those lathe parts were my job to put back together, Kyle, I'd have a real bad feeling about it. Glad it came out OK for you! But if your company is using the slow down as an excuse to catch up on deferred maintenance, more power to 'em!

Hope the weed monster isn't as bad this year, Eric.

One of those Tempest weather stations might be good for traveling, Drew.

Frisky fauns look like they're growing fast, Thomas.

Sorry to hear about your tumble, Ted. Can you use it as an excuse to get some time off your feet?

Got toward the end of painting the tank yesterday and emptied the last of the coating into the roller tray. It wasn't looking good, so I lightly coated the back wall hoping there would be enough to finish the floor. Climbed out of the tank and screwed a pole on the handle of the roller, got the floor done, and had about a cup of sealer left. Went back over the back wall, and called it good. My calculations said I'd have half a gallon left, so I must have put it on thicker than called for. But some's good, more's better in this case.

Then crawled under the firetruck and had another go at removing the pipe plug in the bottom of the tank sump. It had been soaking in Kroil for a few days, and I was hopeful it would come out. Put a two foot breaker bar on it, and no joy. Got out both the 1/2" and 3/4" impact guns, laid them out next to each other so I'd only have to make one trip under there, and got it broken loose with the half incher. But it made so much noise I had to come out for hearing protection anyway. Removed the plug, cleaned up the threads, then slathered them with plenty of pipe dope before putting it back in. Hopefully it'll come out easier next time.

After lunch I had another go at adjusting the self leveling FEL, and found out that the rate of self leveling seems to be dependent on the speed at which the loader arms are moving. Called both the local and Oregon Kubota dealers to ask about it. The local guy suggested taking the valve apart and cleaning it. Uh, no, there are about eight lines running out of it, and I'm not going to all that trouble based on a lame guess. The Oregon man called back and said his M62 seemed to have a third position on the on/off switch, and that it worked in that position. But we agreed that didn't seem right either, so he said he'd look at another M62 on his lot and call me back on Monday. In the mean time, he gave me another way to check if it's the cylinder or the valve leaking on the top'n'tilt, so I'll run that test today.

Found a recipe for scratch pizza dough, so made up a batch and enjoyed a glass of wine on the back porch with the lizards while it rose. Fired up the BBQ to let the pizza steel heat soak. Rolled the dough out onto a new 14" pizza pan, then spread some BBQ sauce on it and dropped on chunks of Costco rotisserie chicken, canned black olives and mushrooms, then dusted the whole thing with nutritional yeast. Couldn't get the whole thing to slide off the pizza pan onto the steel, so just put 'em both in there, checking every few minutes so I wouldn't burn it. Still came out just a tiny bit charred, but by gosh it sure was tasty. Just have to figure out how to keep it from sticking to the pan next time; probably need to use more corn meal. Really pleased how crisp and light the crust came out, though, especially seeing it was a first try.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

Good morning. It's 77° with 89% humidity this morning and forecast to get to 91° this afternoon. There's lots of rain in this area but .. it's all missing us for now.

I got the wire out of the Kubota ZT sidewall and found it was a very small and clean hole that tire sealant would likely resolved. Never the less .. I installed a plug with lots of glue. I inflated it to 20 psi .. found no leaks, so put it back on the ZT to sit, in front of the shop, overnight. I'll head down to check it .. once its daylight.

I got a notification this morning, from FedEx, that my new tire / wheel for the Kubota would be delivered Monday. Original delivery was eBay guaranteed by Tuesday.

I hope to finish pressure washing the floor and furniture of our outdoor kitchen today. Then .. some mowing in the horse pasture.

Hoping for safety for all on the east coast in the path of Isaisa.

Happy Birthday to Randy & Ken this weekend.

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Prayers to all.

I'm curious .. as to what the procedure is RNG?

He explained how the cylinders worked on the inside, and how to determine if the seals on the piston are OK. Using the tilt cylinder as an example, it is installed vertically on the 3PH arm. The port at the bottom pushes the piston up, retracting the rod. The port at the top pushes down, forcing the rod out of the cylinder. To test the piston seal, I'll retract the rod fully, then disconnect the hose to the lower port. That way, fluid can't escape out the port. Then I'll crack the hose fitting to the top port so that any fluid leaking past the piston seal has a place to go. Then I'll lift the 3PH arms to put a downward force on the cylinder rod, which will pressurize the lower end of the cylinder. If the seal on the piston is OK, it'll hold pressure and the rod should remain stationary.

What I've seen so far is that with both hoses connected and the rods fully retracted, they'll reach full extension in about five minutes without any actuation of the valves. That is true for both the top and the tilt, and it makes using the box blade a real PITA. So much so that I've put the old top link back on.:muttering:

Almost makes me wanna move to Oregon just to have a decent mechanic nearby...
