I believe the person who said that misspoke and had to walk it back.
About masks, did you see the reports from the beauty salon in Missouri? Seems like the masks worked.
I heard a commentator say the virus was winning.
I'm still isolating and I don't think I've gotten it yet. Sure thankful I'm retired.

I try to isolate as much as possible - I still go out - but only as necessary (at least in my mind ... ) and I still wear a mask (have taken to leaving it in the van - that way I don't forget it and leave it at home)

I think TSC is more interested in selling dog food, bird seed and clothing now; the lack of technical knowledge is troubling. My local store used to have someone standing at the customer service desk back in middle of hardware area. Now the desk is gone, and the staff mills around up front, just clerks ready to check out your purchase, which
they unlikely have any idea of how it functions. Seems corporate has lost its way.

We still have the service desk at least at the one in North Canton (not sure about Massillon or Lakemore/Springfield, don't get to those quite as often.

But you are correct on their corporate focus - it's on Harry Homeowner of Suburbia, USA ...

Menard's has a great operation ... I don't have too many real complaints with them. Good pricing and a great selection at the two stores close to us that I frequent.

Glad they (recently) came to our area - hopefully you'll get some nearer to you as they build out their operation.

Home Depot and Lowes certainly both needed the competition.

Only one RK near to us that I know of. Prices are good, and a good selection ... but the store could use a make-over.

I wish Menards and Rural King, would both come to Texas and knock out Tractor Supply. We've got some perfect locations .. on I-10, just west side of Columbus.

Good evening all. 66F for the start, thunderstorm in progress, 2 inch in rain gauge. Sky start clearing about noon, about 1 ft covering low water #2 crossing, light to moderate wind day, and high temp was 85F. Still a lot of rain in forecast. Decide not to go to chapel due to heavy rain, watch Facebook live, propped bow up on boat, with all the rain it needed better draining. Should have done some chain maintenance on bikes, but did not, went to stepdaughter's for Father's day, and scored munchies and auto inflate life jacket

A couple of pics of the spanner wrench repair:

The textured white background is a paper towel (Bounty - The Quicker Picker Upper - I believe) to give some idea of scale.

I wanted to drill the hole for the drill rod a little deeper but found that with the bit I was using it wouldn't do it. (Couldn't find the new 5/32 cobalt bit I had recently opened ... )

The hole ended up being between probably 1/16" and 1/8" deep at most.

Set MIG for 1/8" setting (280 WFS, and the "D" voltage tap), set the drill rod in the hole (no clamp), and then just four quick taps on the trigger on the MIG gun.

Still very surprised it didn't break when I used it after the repair ...

Roy is up extra early! You really get a jumpstart on the day, though at least I can cheat and take a nap.

Making a pig of myself on garden club home made zucchini bread for an early treat with coffee. Fresh zucchini out of the garden.
When she brought over this big bag of food, there was a sheet saying what was in it, which I promptly lost. So I'm having to guess what things are.
Last nights super rich and buttery soup was labeled A.C. So I guessed artichoke, I love artichokes. Nope, asparagus and fresh crab soup, crabs picked off their dock on the Pungo Creek nearby. Oh my...this is such a treat to look forward to. Since the kitchen in this place promptly forgot their promise to give me double portions, this extra food is really a plus. Sometimes I think the plastic plate they bring weighs about four ounces total, fine for the ancients here but not for me...

It's Monday and not much planned. Had to turn a/c down, looking at forecast, can see why, already 73 out, humid, and going up to 90 today. Will get my walking in early.
I keep running into this lady doing her Soduko and crossword puzzles at one end of courtyard, have to shorten my path to avoid her cigarette smoke. I feel a little sorry for her, who am I to prevent her little pleasure? My mother smoked and died of cancer, my father smoked cigars and died of laryngeal cancer, this is simply something to avoid if at all possible. We all know it, not so easy to change. Have always felt that nice people came in all sizes and shapes. And some smoke too.. And some drink too much, which also adds to cancer risk. All a matter of how we all handle our stress. Probably why so many little happy pills get dispensed each year.

I found out in middle life that I had been suffering from some severe bouts of depression. Something many of us deal with. Figured out a way to compartmentalize, isolate and talk my way out of the blues. And it worked, never had to take a pill for it. I think it helps to have a sense of humor. I remember as a kid reading Reader's Digest
Laughter Is The Best Medicine. That stuck with me. Particularly important to be able to laugh at oneself and not take myself too seriously.

Buppies, hope you are doing ok. You too Randy, our other Randy, plus we have a Randall too.
RS, learning how to weld, however poorly, enabled not only my ability but my imagination, my confidence in fixing things.
Sold my little electronic welder with rest of farm equipment, had great fun with it, but always wondered how strong my welds were.
Looking ok clearly did not mean strong internally. Nothing ever fell apart later though, but you wonder about the reworked internal strength of the metal.

Good morning all. Roy, Drew, now we are past the longest day, you two are doing a good job of making the most of every minute of daylight.

Days don't start any better than this - dry, comfortably warm in short sleeves and best of all when I opened the fridge for milk I found an unexpected slice of cold pizza. The extra energy came in handy as the sheep were hard to move, they must know the shearers are coming.

Spent most of yesterday removing fencing from around the wetland. After 16 years many of the oak posts have broken off, although a durable timber, it doesn't seem to like standing permanently in wet ground. Interestingly the few softwood posts that I put in are still sound, even though those from the same batch in dry ground rotted away after less than 8 years. The pig netting is mostly still in excellent condition and will be used again elsewhere, though with a generous quantity of 40mm staples in each post and rush growing through the bottom wires, it wasn't very willing to come out.

Hoping not to use metal fencing when the digging is finished, the deeper water will make a good stock barrier between each field, with alder posts and horizontal woven willow at either end. A sluice gate in the channel to keep the bankside water at the right level for wading birds is also on the plan, however that will have to wait for the next dry spell.

LS, with oak flooring your "hobby shack" is looking more like a second home. It will make a great doghouse if you ever inadvertently upset your wife.

RS, always a great feeling when a make-do repair from what you have on hand turns out as good as buying a new one. :thumbsup: Only drawback is that it makes you even more reluctant to throw anything away when even a broken drill bit may be just what you need tomorrow.

Sodamo, good to hear you got Sophie back to your never ending vacation. Hope your tongue heals soon.

Got a late start on the garden this year, but it is finally coming along. Had to replant a few tomatoes and sunflowers. Fence shows what horses do if you don't have a board along the top. This part was originally the goat pen, but served as a temporary place if we needed to keep the horses out of the pasture. The red-headed woodpeckers spend a lot of time sitting on top of the fence posts here.

Good morning. It's 77° with 99% humidity this morning and should get to 91° this afternoon. Lots of rain in our forecast for the week but, looks like today .. most of it will be east of us.

More pressure washing is on the menu today, so a day .. in rubber boots. Once patios and porches are cleaned, I need to start on outside windows. Groan! My "supervisor" .. wants it ready for 4th of July weekend.

Good morning! 66 now with a steady rain. Maybe 78 later and good chance of rain off and on today. That is ok, we need it. Yesterday the high was 88, had a heavy rain start as we went to bed.

Was a busy weekend. Got the mowing done Saturday. Then went to the short track Saturday night. A friend went with me, I worry about his health every time he goes (transplant 12 years ago), but when we get there, he seems energized and happy. Had a hard time finding him most of the evening, he was walking around socializing with people he knows.

Kid I help won 3 of 4 heat races, including winning his first race ever on a TT track. 3 - 3rds and one win in the finals. He dominated a talented field in the 450 Open final. It wasn稚 even close. There were a lot of riders there, 200+ signed up. Was a late night. I was dragging yesterday.

We went shopping then did yard work yesterday. Still lots of empty spaces on shelves, regardless of the store. The frozen veggie section at the grocery store was simply empty. At TSC, lots of gaps, but we dealt with a cashier that I gotta say, was one of the most personable and friendly cashiers I have dealt with in a LONG time. She was a very nice young lady.

Locally, Tusc. County is up to 435 cases and 10 deaths. There are only about 35 active cases.

Coffee is done brewing. 66° with clouds and some rain this morning. Heading to 84° with chance of thunderstorms. Yesterdays 100% chance of rain got us .04". Good time at sons place until a stray storm hit about 4:30. Sent us all into the house rest of the evening. Parts to do final repairs on JD mower came in Friday. May work on that project today. No other plans.

Wngsprd, I see your rain gauge in picture. I need to get mine up. I have been using the digital one on weather station.

Rick, I have 3 TSC stores near me. Closest is OK. Other 2 are much better. Because they are close to farming area's. The Rural King store is a hit and miss operation. If you think TSC has a mess on their shelves. Screws, 3ph parts and hydraulic fittings are a mess at Rural King. I only go there if it's only place to get what I want. Lots of small horse farms around here. Mostly under 10 acres.

David, glad you and Sophie made it back home and she is doing good after operation.

Good morning! 70s to 90s cloudy. Rain is predicted this week so the outdoor brush clearing activities are on standby.

I signed up for the neighborhood gym and pool time slots, I'll see how that works this week. during the covid they limit the number of people and have time slots and you must wear mask except when you are doing cardio exercises or lounging in the pool. They open the time slots to sign up a week in advance and they fill up quickly. Cancelation has to be made 24 hours in advance, I hear that is not working well because most people that cancel have to on shorter notice.

With covid on the rise the governor will speak at 2:00pm. I hope he does not go backwards in opening up, the hospitals are not overcrowded.

The dust from Africa is supposed to blow into Texas this week, hopefully the rains will turn it into mud.

Picked the first batch of tomatoes yesterday, 6 were ripe.

I wore a mask at the barber shop a few weeks ago, Chris. I didn't get sick, but he'd only been open for a few days by then. The barber wasn't wearing a mask, and I wonder how he's been doing.

Dug the new multimeter out yesterday and spent some time making measurements during the times when the A/C starts. Measured a 92 amp surge current when the system was running on batteries, that climbed to 115 amps when powered by the grid. Voltage wise, I saw an 8 volt drop during start up while on batteries, and 14 volts on the grid. Oddly, outside of when the A/C was starting, the voltage read 222V on the grid, and 244V while on the batteries. It seems odd that there are more problems when the A/C starts up while running on the batteries when there's less current surge and voltage drop as compared to when running on the grid. Could be the device isn't sampling fast enough to capture the actual transient, though. Looks like the sample rate is only 4/second. More head scratching is needed.

I couldn't run the tests back-to-back because once shut off, the A/C took a while before it would start again. I used that time to do some rearranging in the garage, and emptied a box of junk a friend had given me several years ago. Most of it went into the trash, some into the scrap metal bin, but there were a few useful motorcycle parts in there that found their way into the spares cabinet.
