Another cool day yesterday; started out with a flannel shirt-jack that hasn't been worn in a month. Was gonna switch the tractor over to the landscape rake, but went by the front dirt pile and decided to pick rocks for a while instead. Had bluetooth headphones on and listened to some music I downloaded off of youtube, stuff so new it's not out in album form yet. The nice thing about rock picking is it doesn't require a lot of thought. Except for the boulders. They take a little finesse with the FEL to get them to tip into the bucket.
I dunno what I'm gonna do with 'em, but the #1 rockpile is gettin' pretty big...
As I dug through the dirt, a lizard ran up to me and disappeared into a little cave under one of the rocks. It was a bigger rock I'd need the FEL to move, and I didn't wanna see the little bugger get squished, so I scooped enough dirt away so I could grab 'im. He didn't like it, and squirmed out of my hand and tried to get back under the rock. Dug him out again, and walked over to a pile of pallets to let him go, but he just wanted to sit in the sun on my shirt. That's when I noticed the bright blue markings in his belly, and colorful little dots on his back. He looked well fed, too. Used to have chameleons as a kid, and these lizards are even better: They feed themselves!:laughing:
Picked about two or three FEL buckets of rocks, to where I didn't see any more in the pile, then pushed the little pile into the big one to get it farther from the power pole. Then swapped the box blade for the rake, and was reminded I still want to get some kind of quick attach for the 3PH. Ran the rake for a while but it wasn't picking up much dead grass, as it seems the lift arms on this 3PH don't have enough float in them to let the rake self level, and it misses a lot of ground. That's also part of why it's so difficult to swap implements. Ran the rake for a couple hours, then knocked off for a late lunch. Not sure if I'm gonna rake anymore as it doesn't seem to be doing much good.
Had a job that needed a few holes for anchors in the concrete, and decided to finish up the afternoon on that. I'd noticed that the hammer drill chuck was loosening up and letting the drills spin, and it finally quit hanging on altogether yesterday after three of the four holes I needed. So this morning I ordered a new one, this time a rotary hammer drill that can also be used as a demo hammer. Hilti used to own that territory, but they seem to have shifted a lot of their production to China, and they're not what they used to be. I've gotten great use out of a Bosch angle grinder, and the pro line of Bosch rotary hammer drills get pretty good reviews, so I ended up with an SDS Plus model. It and a hand full of drills'll be here Friday.
Long about 5PM the sky started gettin' dark again and I heard thunder. Another late afternoon band of showers that was gone in an hour. This one was trailing a rainbow as it disappeared to the southeast, though.
