To all the Veterans I wish you all a Happy Memorial Day and I want to thank you and your families for your service and sacrifices. I would not be posting here today if were not for your services and sacrifices and those made by your comrades in arms and our allies both living and dead. Because of your efforts and those who made their ultimate sacrifice I am free. It is more than a day off for me. Thank you.

The weather this weekend was conducive to gardening. The main garden is tilled, fenced and I started planting this AM.. I drove quite a few fence posts using my 5’ straight pick and 8# hand sledge yesterday. The tiller did not find too many rocks this year; my straight pick did. I am surprised that there are no complaints from muscle groups or skeletal system this morning.

44ºF was today’s low temperature. At dawn it was a foggy, drizzly 48ºF. It is presently an overcast and drizzly 59ºF. Actually today was conducive to planting. Tomorrow I need to go down to the “Big City” for food, pharmacy, bird food, more vegetable seeds, plant start 6 packs, etc.

I have no idea what the police are doing now, but when I was an officer I never even knew of a ticket being issued for less than 10 mph over the limit, except in school zones and then 5 over the limit could get you a ticket, and I still remember the only ticket I ever wrote for speeding in a school zone was for 50mph in a 20mph school zone. He was actually doing 60 but I always wrote for less than the actual speed, and I seldom had to testify in court. I was in an unmarked sedan, but in uniform and when I saw him coming in my rear view mirror I put on my uniform cap hoping he'd see me and slow down when he passed me, but he didn't, and it was a time in the evening that a school crossing guard was helping the kids, so I hit the siren and the school crossing guard stopped all the kids. The driver was on his way home from college and in a hurry to get there because he was expecting a phone call from his girlfriend. I was surprised when he came to court and pled not quilty. He took the stand and said he was only doing 45 mph instead of the 50 I had charged.:laughing: The prosecutor said you did know that the speed limit was 20 mph and the young man said that he did because he went home about that time every day. I suspect someone had told him that if there was any error on the ticket, he could get it dismissed so he decided to claim an error on the speed.:laughing: When the judge announced the amount of the fine, the young man looked as if someone had just hit him in the head.

Our normal/average (or whatever) annual rainfall here is supposedly 30.08". And right now I'm at 29.68'" and it's still raining. So far that's only about an inch and quarter today, but more than 10 inches for the month, and more rain in the forecast for every day for the coming week.

When the gov't mandated the speed limits down to 55mph. Too many small town jurisdictions wrote too many fines. Some if you were only a few miles over. Speedtraps.

Our state made a law a while back, that limited the percentage of budget money coming from traffic fines.

Good afternoon all. Let me start by thanking all oy who have served or had family served this Memorial Day. 65F for the start, trace rain in gauge, raining and light breeze. Light wind day today, rain most of day about 1/2 inch in gauge. No nap yet but after this posting likely. Did get brake and cable on 10-speed, too wet to test, maybe tomorrow morning, more rain tomorrow.
Covid update: Cooke unchanged, Montague unchanged, Grayson unchanged confirmed cases, active cases dropped 10 to 181.

There were a number of speed traps around Lake of the Ozarks, which is a big tourist attraction. About a year after I got caught in one, saw an article about how the speed trap messed with someone with some real political pull. Now town has no income
prayers for all especially Drew.

About an hour ago I got an alert for lightning 22 miles away. Was downstairs in the fish room scraping the front glass on a tank.

Was bright and sunny outside, nothing showing up on radar.

About 15 minutes ago another alert - this time 3 miles away. Shortly after that the power went out and came back on about a half dozen times in fairly short order ... finally staying off on the last go round.

I’m standing there in pitch darkness, with a plastic tray in one hand, and the new Kent scraper Amazon delivered a couple hours ago in the other ... all the way down in a 55 gallon tank and can’t see a dang thing ...

Fortunately the flashlight app on the phone allowed me to avert disaster ...

After shutting down several computers, and turninfo off 5 UPS’, I’ve decided it might be a good time for a nap ...

If there are 2 lanes here in Texas, you are only supposed to use the left inside lane for passing. (It'd be the opposite right lane for Eric)

The law here will give you about 4 mph lenience. If posted 70mph and they catch you at 75, you will often get a citation.

I grilled some angus ribeyes, Ellen cooked corn on the cob and twice baked potatoes and made a big salad.
It was without a doubt the best steak I’ve had in 20 years. Now I’m lazy as a pig.
