Good morning, the grass in the shade is still white over from last night's hard frost. We had the woodburner fired up for the first time in several weeks. I am always wary of bringing fire wood into the house after March, it gets burnt immediatly as this is the time of year when the mature woodworm emerge. The most common type can fly before laying their eggs, so it is all too easy to inadvertently invite unwelcome visitors.

A couple of days ago, while searching (and failing) for more detailed information on using Alder wood for piling in wet ground, I came across one potentially useful bit which said that woodworm prefer Alder over all other woods and that in times gone buy, it was placed in furniture drawers as sacrificial timber. Presumably it was periodically replaced, it didn't say how big a piece to use. Old knowledge like that could be very useful. I intend to cut some fresh this autumn and leave a bundle in our kitchen and living room, alongside where I place the wood baskets.

Bups, your bench looks super sturdy  The cutout on the front lipping is intriguing, what goes there ?
Now comes the most difficult part - deciding which of your collection will have the honour of firing the first round.

... I took a dive on a rug covering a concrete floor.

Roy, good to hear your back is easing.
If still getting twinges, best leave the wetsuit off for a while, buy one of these instead :)

39 here going to 51 with sun today. Not sure on wind damage yet as it's still to dark to see. Will have to look around when I get back from work.

My wife is going to venture out today to see if she can grab some needed groceries. Need fresh fruits and vegetables. We're still good on other stuff.

Nice to see all the projects going on, we are still to wet in the yard to get anything going. We don't plant till after Memorial day with the threat of frost here till then. Cold likes to settle down into our valley. we've had snow as late as May here quite a bit. Usually melts quick but still sucks!

Glad your back is better Roy.Nice bench Buppies. Happy Birthday to all past and future! Hopefully not a lot of damage for you Thomas and Jay and the rest of those effected by this storm.
Everyone stay safe and healthy!
Here is a pic from our walk on Sunday. Mt. Monadnoc from our backyard and the next door golf course.

48 going to 59.

Rip, enjoy the fishing in your new pond. We got a lot of rain, but not that much.

Roy, glad you're better.

Phil, beautiful view...isn't Monadnock up in New Hampshire? That's a nice long view.

Step, your pic of Meadows of Dan is even prettier than I remembered. Haven't been out much recently, but best gas price I saw Sunday was 1.69.

Well, dump run today, and refill my diesel can. Wasn't planning on the dump run, but once Coco's barking ran him off the porch at midnight, where he was enjoying the sunflower seed storage, the bear walked over to our big plastic garbage cans and tried to get in before running off when I yelled. This was the first night I forgot to bring in the bird feeders, because the coons were getting them, and sure enough I see one on the ground. First bear of the year, and I was hiking in our woods for an hour yesterday afternoon and saw no signs. I'll check the game cams today.

46 outside this AM. Heading to mid 50's. Sort of breezy this AM. Need to dry out from yesterday.

The big noise around this time yesterday was another silver maple shedding a "branch". The trees were planted too close to the house and are 60 to 80 years old. Seems like every year one needs work.

Hope all have a good day. Be safe.
