Good morning! 28 now, supposed to get to 36 later and dry. Nice break from 2 days of rain. But rather have rain than snow. The strange winter continues. 10 day forecast remains mild. I am not complaining.

Yesterday was a mostly conserve energy day. Did some stuff....didn稚 overwork myself for sure.

The stars have aligned, going to FL next weekend for a race. Young rider I help is going, we have a new race bike to set up during the open practice Friday night. Then race on Saturday. Hope his notes on the other one apply to the new one. The new Rekluse clutch is supposed to be in his hands Thursday morning, so we also get the fun of making sure it is adjusted correctly on Friday.

Wife and I went to our favorite Mexican place last evening for dinner....as usual, no disappointments

Everyone have a safe and good day

Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 5:15AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 58F. Winds light and variable.

A compressed air driven duster would make short work of Whiper's new coat, Don, but she might not like it and you may no longer have a compressor after your downsizing...

I purchased a pair of tools for clearing grease fittings from Northern Tool, Rick, but now I can't find the blocked fitting I was gonna use 'em on...:confused2:

I've been pretty lax about cleaning up after several jobs too, Ron. And now I've got camping gear strewn all over the garage, drying out after last week's trip. Time to clean up my act...

Speaking of compressors, I had to use mine yesterday to repressurize the holding tank for the reverse osmosis filter under the kitchen sink. Only 16 or so ounces would come out of the faucet before it would start to dribble, and that started when I tried to get a couple of gallons at one time. That was enough to let the air pressure out of the tank. The instructions said it only needed 6 psi, and my gauge may not be very accurate at that low reading, but it seems to be working OK now.

Also made up a new batch of nectar for the hummingbirds, several pairs of which seem to be staying through the winter. I had four feeders out while I was on vacation, but only refilled two so the nectar will be fresher for the next refill.

I was also able to get a wireless network security device called an Akita installed and working yesterday. It was an Indigogo funded product, and the first one delivered was DOA. Took them six months to deliver the replacement, and a lot of fiddling and redoing to get that one going, largely due to the horrible instructions and Changlish responses from tech support.

Body man neighbor came down last night to share a bottle of wine around the campfire while I burned old papers and mailing labels. The odd bits of wood I stashed under an old tarp were mostly dry, and only required one shot of Diesel to get going, a nice change from the damp wood I had to use for the first couple of fires.

I've got a slow drain in the master bathroom, and the water softener is on the fritz again, so more water fix it jobs to do today.

27.9 here this morning. We have not got the 40 - 50 mph winds they predicted, yet anyway... I don't like sitting in deer stands when it's that windy, and they generally don't move much then too, but I may push myself out for an afternoon hunt. Last day of bow season in Indiana today.

34 very windy high of 47 today very strange weather indeed and looks to continue thru at least the third week of January when a large storm may come up from Texas large storms pan hooker b type storm turning to snow in the Midwest very heavy. This may change the pattern or may not. Mid Atlantic stays mild

Prayers for all in need

Good morning to all! Low 22, going to 52 today, sunny but windy this afternoon. Daily high temps start dropping lower Monday and Tuesday.

I got all the Christmas lights taken down both inside and out. All packed up and back into storage. Then went to son’s house and prodded him to get his taken down.... I helped there also. One job turned into two, but they are done!

Since I had him motivated, I told him we should finish the electric wiring in his garage. With the holiday and relatives here, he / we procrastinated finishing up the last 3 runs, all overhead in the rafters. 2 of them were 220v runs with 10/3 wire.... not the easiest to pull, especially overhead. He got them done. I stayed planted firmly on the ground and wired the panel box.

Today we are (HE IS, but does not know it yet) going to start installing the insulation in the ceiling. He opted to use batt insulation despite my recommendation to spray / blow it in. My plan is to stay on the ground, hand him the batts, and let him fight to put them in place..... he will learn.
We have always encouraged our kids to make their own informed decisions / choices since they were little....maybe too much encouragement.... now they do not like taking “ experienced advice “ . AAAHHHH... to be young again....

Gstrom99, welcome to the GM thread! Have fun on your hunt!

RNG, have you noticed a pattern that all these things seem to break down / go wrong after you return from a trip? You need to kick Murphy ‘ s butt out of your house when you leave... he is having too much fun left home alone....:D

Ron, enjoy that E- muffin.... I think Thomas is starting a trend here!

Don, I think Whipper is telling you that she wants “ highlights “ put in her hair the next time she goes to the parlor.....:D

Hope everyone has a pleasurable Sunday. Prayers sent.

Today is NATIONAL BIRD DAY ?... just heard it on the news..... Jay, are you taking any counts today?

I have been watching a mob of ravens playing out in the field....

Yesterday's rain changed over to snow as predicted leaving a dusting over the glare ice underneath. Increasing wind and sunshine to go along with the day's low temperature of the current 28ºF, and I anticipate a clear and sunny afternoon ~30ºF. Plan for today = spread more wood ashes on the driveway, keep the wood stove going, free up the woodpile from its tomb of ice, and make some ox tail soup later.

As long as that "Bermuda high" stays floating around its present position as it has all season and continues to feed tropic moisture up the eastern coast and there is no blocking weather pattern(s) in the Atlantic/Northern Atlantic this crazy weather will continue. The Pacific has had plenty of energy and moisture. The polar vortex is stuck where it is with not much going on to dislodge any lobes. I see a continuation of this weather/weather pattern for another week at least. :(

I went to bed before halftime with the New England -Tennessee playoff game. They were not playing well enough to win the first half. I am not unhappy to have gotten some extra sleep.

Gstrom- Welcome to GM.

BEF- Your goulash looks to be great eats.

Don- Thanks for sharing Whipper's picture. She could have rolled in something far worse.

Ted- Wifey started one of the bird counts earlier this week. I started this AM. Not a lot of variety so far this year (since the bird count started ). Good luck supervising your son  and also with the project.

It appears that our efforts to enhance the native environment to encourage the return of ruffed grouse around here is starting to pay off. ;) I saw my first one here yesterday. It's been a couple of years since I last saw one here.

I hope that everyone is having a decent Sunday.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Wow, lots to catch up on....not enough time to comment to all.

You have my prayers. Sophie, Randy, BEF, Ron, and all who have the crappy stomach bug/virus or colds.

Happy Belated Birthday Roy.

J- be careful until the ice melts.

We made refried beans in the IP. Turned out awesome. Today, some chicken noodle soup.

Got the black paint on the son's minibike frame. Now all the small details.

Time to head to church.

67°F and .91 inches rain.

No big plans for the day. Watch some playoffs, fix some stuffed salmon for dinner, cards, energy conservation

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

RNG, It looks like your windshield had a hardware failure. Looking at that semi barreling past you while you took a picture....oh my....glad you made it home safely. Thanks for sharing pics. My last hotel stay was a bad one too. They had double booked our room. At 1am, I heard some people attempting to open the door with a key. I was armed, and yelled through the door to them, the room was taken. They seemed to be a young mom, her mother, and a baby in a carrier. Not sure what they had a baby out that late for, but I was glad I was a light sleeper and not awoken by them barging in our dark room.

We just planted spinach and kale, yes, too late, but we have room for potatoes. I'm thinking of building a pvc cover with clear plastic to maybe start some tomatoes early.

I didn't pick the best place to pull over, but it was the best I could find on such short notice. The new windshield is made by a company called Parabellum, and they've done wind tunnel testing to ensure they'll stand up to the wind loads. And I think they replace most of the BMW mounting hardware with their own. I'll know more tomorrow after a friendly chat with them on the phone.

Glad your encounter had a safe ending. I usually carry when I'm away from home, but this time decided it was more hassle than it was worth. Boy was I wrong. For all I knew, that nut job in the next room was about to send a bullet through the wall at any minute, and all I had was a pocket knife. Never again...

Not too many slips nor slides outside today on the what was formerly our driveway and was able to clear the ice off the woodpile. I was wearing my YakTrax. My brand new crampons would be extreme overkill on this icepack  I need to find a better option than a POS plastic tarp to cover my woodpile next year.

I would not be surprised if some motel rooms are rented out to mental health, developmentally challenged, and/or individuals on need of emergency housing with some/all the costs reimbursed by the government.

RNG- Good luck with the windshield replacement.

Kyle- I am glad your encounter remained +.

A little surprise for today's bird count:

Remove the grease zerk, then remove the dryed grease and spray some brake cleaner into it, reinstall the zerk and try again, repeat till it works.
You can try the hammer operated tools to clear a fitting they will work better if the zerk has ben removed and as much old grease removed as possible.

Thanks Lou, I give it a try tomorrow.

I did keep my air compressor but I tried the EGO blower on her but could not get close enough. With that early fall freeze the grass died early and is now crumbly and magnetic.
