Good morning!!!!

No frost for us this morning, looks like we are having a change back to cloudy weather. The "dry" was good while it lasted, I have just paced out a new pond that appeared in the hay field a few weeks ago and is still over 50 yards across. Ducks are so spoilt for choice this year.

Good luck with your test Roy.

I also have a test today, although unlike Roy, I have no chance of passing mine. A text message and then a phone call came as a reminder yesterday. Text was clear enough, but ironically, unless this was part of the hearing test, I struggled to tell half of what the lady said to me. :)

I read yesterday that the fuel injection system Subaru uses in the van's engine needs at least 10.4 volts to work when the engine is being cranked. At best, the van only runs once a week, and sits the rest of the time, so it's easy for the battery to get low. Add to that all the time it spent neglected at the ex-mechanic's shop, and I had good reason to run a little test yesterday that shed some interesting light on the cold start problem. Fired up the diagnostic app on the iPhone after turning the key on, but before cranking, and got exactly 12 volts. But as soon as I turned the key to start, the voltage fell to 9.4, and all it did was crank and refused to start. Again. So I put it on a trickle charger, coming back to check it in a few hours and the Battery Saver's "Full" LED was lit. I repeated the test, finding the resting voltage at 13.5, with 12.0 volts when starting, and start it did, after only a couple seconds of cranking. And it started right up after I shut it off, too. If I get a repeat performance this morning, after having sat with the charger attached all night, I'm going to put a charging lead on the battery and probably buy another Battery Saver to keep more or less permanently attached to it when it sits. Fingers crossed...

Many years ago I had a Mazda RX4 and the then wife used it mostly as a shopping basket with a lot of short running. When I got to use it it would stumble and miss for quite a while until I got the cobwebs blown out. It had the standard Kettering ignition system (distributor, points and coil) Electronic ignition hadn't been invented but I found an article on capacitor discharge ignition systems in a ham radio magazine. I had access to enthusiastic telecom engineers, draughtsman to draw the circuit board and surplus parts and specilised equipment for testing. I biult about 12 of these in my lunchhours. The coil would dump about 33k volts to the spark plugs. But... The power transistors needed 9+ volts to run so when the voltage on cranking dropped below 9V there was no starting until I stopped cranking and with the motor still spinning the the transistors got the 12v and fired her up.
So to start the procedure was run on start for about 3 seconds, switch from start to run and she'ed light up. on test that system would throw a 33k spark across a 4 inch air gap.

I can not get flu shot because of GBS.

I first heard of this connection in 1976 during the big Swine flu epidemic. My buddy and I went and got the shot and saw signs warning about GBS, we didn’t know they just put them up that day.

That is a mystery because the new law goes into effect October 2020. Did you get the letter in your birth month, maybe she will also???? Maybe she does not have a birth certificate scanned in on file???

Her license would expire in December, 2021, and in Texas "Most driver licenses and identification cards can be renewed up to two years before and after the expiration date." So I'm guessing that since she could go to a driver's license office and renew her license now, that's why.

Did you get the letter in your birth month, maybe she will also????

Nope, I got the letter last month and my birthday is next month (January). But her birthday is this month (December).

good morning,
13 and going to a high of 23 °F. Wind NW 13 mph. 40% chance of flurries.

The tractor block heater is turned on. I think I will scrape the snow down and re-pack it into the gravel driveway. There isn't all that much, about 3". I will go around and check the others that I plow.

Have a good day all

First cup of coffee has been poured. 33° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 27° with a slight possibility of some sun. Got a dusting of snow overnight. Already cleaned off walkways. Dogs go in for grooming this morning. Then get some shopping done at Walmart. Installed one of the digital locks on garage side door. Easy to do. Programming took awhile. I would read the instruction setting on bench. Then go to door and try to follow them. Seems I forgot instruction by time I got to second step. Finally got it done by taping instruction on door above lock. This getting old is not easy.

Rick and Buckeye, after using B-12 in fuel tank and getting engine to run I always drain and flush fuel tank and carburetor. Here is a good review with warnings. After putting some in a small engine fuel tanks let it set for a few minutes. I have never used it on a car/truck engine.

Buppies, you still doing asphalt this time of year?

Bird, my Michigan enhanced drivers licences is compliant. I have to renew in June for another 5 years. MI is offering 3 drivers licences, Enhanced, Real ID and one marked with "Not for federal identification".

Roy, hope you pass the test and have a safe trip home.

Thomas, may your friend RIP.

Eric, my Dr visit had a nurse with a accent. My hearing problems and her accent made it very hard to get information. We finally settled on both of us looking at computer screen to make sure information was correct.

Don, mulching trails looks like fun. No seat time?

Good Morning All.
