27 right now...high in the upper 40's and sunny.

Dump run this morning, then get the leaves out of the gutters. My step daughter wants to be able to use the garage this winter, so I've got to do some reorganizing...that'll be a real chore!!

My best to your wife, Thomas!

good morning all.
Brrr. Fishman, you are colder than me, 34 showing, but like Wngsprd have another hour of cool before warm.
Just as soon as the sun peeks its head out, temps rise quickly.
As long as you have a warm sun on your face, even under a hat, seem to stay warmer in cold temps, though after growing
my winter beard, my cheeks no longer get cold. Itch but not cold...

went to bed a little later than normal due to cooking dinner for lady friend at home last night, which I enjoy,
but always knowing I have to drive her back home to her home on the River,
into an area utterly infested with deer, and where I hit a full grown
black bear at 55mph with my truck two years ago. Too many critters on the loose at night.
I counted four deer this time, in four different places.
It's like driving through a gauntlet of the stupid animals, which I dearly wish some mighty hunter
would harvest and provide venison to the food pantry. Lot of good food on the hoof, and unlike our cows,
they run completely loose.
How about if we domesticated the deer, send them through regular tick dips, and harvest excess for
food? Good eating, like a giant walking chicken. ;)

We do it for cows, we do it for pigs, we do it...
Just seems dumb to have them spend most of their time smashed into our truck grills.
and then no more Lymes Disease, a neurological disaster for many.
We need to find a place for them to live that is controlled and off our streets.
I have lived all my life in high deer intensity areas and it makes driving at night worrisome.
Fence in a big section of Federal forest to protect the animals.
Now there's a fence I'd pay for...

Good morning!
Temp here is 30 and going to a high of 39°F. Wind S 11 mph. Snow or rain in the forecast, bye, bye snow.

This certainly is a better morning than yesterday.

The same fellow that fixed my leaky roof around the chimnies 2 years ago is coming to give me an estimate on (a) patching up the additional leaks or (b) reroofing the whole thing.

I've got some more firewood to chuck into the basement today, then do nothing for the rest of the day.

Have a good day all

Need to pour fist cup of coffee. 37° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 43° with rain in afternoon. Pump is out of garden pond. Got last of the things that need to be put away for winter done yesterday. Still need to pick up leaves and make mower and tractor ready for winter. Memorial service for wife at church today. Then my granddaughter will be coming to clean house. That enough for today.

David, $1700 for mounting brackets? :confused2: What are they made out of?

Buckeye, good news on recovery.

Mostly, glad bike is fixed. Enjoy the ride. My bike never left the barn this year. Plan to fix that next year. Hope Panera put something better on the menu. :ashamed:

Drew, how do you like the new Garmin? I got a new one for my car. It has dash and backup camera. Updated all the maps and software. Transferred all my old locations in to it from saved files. Happy with it. Just need figure how to protect backup camera. It just snaps into a plastic bracket. I keep my old Dezl 560 in glove compartment just incase.

Prayers and good wishes for all.

Good Morning All.

Itch but not cold...After your whiskers get to be about 2-3" long, they don't itch anymore.

Lou, good info, thank you. So many US companies are now owned by companies in
far away lands, and sometimes you wonder "who" a company is any more.

Thomas, may the birthday girl be on a slow roll of happiness today.

I continue to be amazed at what many of you know how to fix/work on.
Sodamo works like an eager beaver on his property, living fully off the grid which I don't think any
of the rest of us do. Am sorry the batteries are failing, that has to be really disappointing. I think we all hope to get
ten years out of quality batteries, especially with today's desulphating smart chargers.
I remember seeing a 950 dollar lithium battery at the rv store, I think a group 31, maybe smaller, and
when I think you'd probably need about thirty of those to work...what a huge cost.
Doesn't Tesla make high end storage banks?

You know you have to spend the money on the batteries, but it should have been five years from now.
This sounds like an early adoption of tech that just didn't work out well.
Sun, wind and water are silent power. Too bad solar panels and windmills aren't attractive, maybe make the windmill look
like a large tree...and come up with green solar panels that work just as well.

As i was thinking about eating deer I did chuckle over including moose.
something tells me they are a bit tough.
but yes, barrier fences back off major roads would help, maybe tax incentive to do so.

Ron, the 770 is pretty much same unit without the backup camera, which I already had, and the dash cam, which I had already installed.
It's also the identical unit built inside the Kenwood radio/infotainment system so I can use one for directions and the other either zoomed in or out.
I've already had to ignore its driving instructions, same issues with all of these, they try to optimize too much and don't understand driving ease.
I wish there was a way to set your route in the gps, have some input on that vs. just filters. I love Google Maps because you can drag your route over to another road.
I want the gps to give me advice on that route, not what is 1/10th of a mile shorter.

Dropped below freezing...all the bird baths are ice...and the birds are hitting the feeders pretty hard.

The woodstove is toasty warm, and Eric, the Ecofan is spinning like a hurricane hit it.

Thomas, opening day of muzzleloader here, too. My arms are so sore I can't hold mine up long enough to use it...maybe this afternoon.

Good morning! 32˚F frost again this morning. Clear skies.

Welcome back FishMan!!! FishMan is one of the original Texas TBNers on our get-togethers years ago.

My neighbor recorded 24˚F yesterday (he has no rock around his weather station). After a day at Mom's I stopped by the gardens and Drew you were right it was a killer Temp. Thousands of summer garden plants were killed. I lost all the eggplants - but I was getting tired of them, the two plants still had 23 eggplants on them after I picked 8 the day before. All my fall plantings survived and seemed to like the colder weather. Now that the eggplants are gone I can plant more Fall plants.

I need to get to the gardens this morning to mash down the plant dumpster with the FEL as they will fill up quickly with frost killed plants. The discarded plant dumpsters are hauled off, recycled into compost and the compost returned to be used by anyone in the Horticulture Club.

We also need to finish the new raised bed section - hundreds of cinder blocks to level and place. Two other guys have already finished the plumbing to the new beds.

Like Drew's garden, 10 of our raised beds + anyone who wants to take a year off, are used to raise food for the local food pantry by our garden's Outreach SIG. I usually try to follow the timing of their plantings because after 20 years they have figured it all out. This years first hard freeze on Nov1st is early we usually can go at least till December.

Good morning, made it to the weekend!

It was 70 Thursday, then LOTS of rain and wind. High Friday was 42, it is 26 now. Lit the first fire of the season last night. The cats are ecstatic! 2 are sprawled on the heart rug right now, I expect the one will still be there in March. She loves having a fire.

Have to travel for work tomorrow. So got to get my weekend into today. Have to come back Wednesday night for a Thursday morning meeting. Got a feeling I am gonna be rare after lunch on Thursday.

Better get started.

Everyone have a safe and good weekend

Touched 30 at 7:21 this morning, 58 later they say. Patchy frost and ice on cats water.
We have been invited to an appreciation dinner due to our charity work. It’s at a large church in the black community, we might be the only white people there, we were last time. But for homemade chicken and dumplings I am on board!
Have a good day and prayers for all.

Good Saturday Morning. It's 40° this morning and forecast say 68° this afternoon. Looks like our lows in the 30's is over for at least 10 days.

I took advantage of our recent good rains and no wind yesterday to get started on our nine burn piles that have accumulated during our summer long burn bans. I did the smallest two piles, one near the shop and one near the house. The other seven are out in three pastures.

We've got calm conditions this morning so ... I'll get at least one more pile burned this morning.

Clocks back /smoke detector batteries .....tonight friends.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday and weekend.

Prayers to all.

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 7:00AM. Sunny. High 77F. Winds light and variable.

Tried to get caught up yesterday, but house guest was up early wanting coffee before I finished. After that the morning got away...

Drew, if you set your routing preference to "shortest distance" and then set enough waypoints, you can control the route pretty closely. Be sure to preview the route, though, and set avoidances if you want to stay off dirt or toll roads. I wish there were a way to convert routes created in Google maps so that they can be uploaded to the GPS. I may have seen something in the past that did it, but something else changed to break it. Might be time for another look, as the Garmin desktop software for MacOS is just awful to use.

Hope the frame repair holds up, Mostly, and that you get many more enjoyable miles from it. I've had very good luck painting motorcycle frames with POR-15 paint and a brush. It levels out like glass and looks like a factory job.

Glad your Shingrex vaccine finally came in, Wng, been waiting a loooooooong time for mine. Not looking forward to it after hearing of your experience, though.

Drove the van to breakfast in Magalia, a community hard it by the Camp Fire last November. Very tasty breakfast burrito, good service, and the restaurant insides were all new and tastefully done. Nice to see them recovering from that disaster. Riding buddy/houseguest very impressed by all the damage still remaining: Burned out cars, giant piles of debris and tree trunks, row after row of chimneys and empty lots. Lots of work in Paradise for those needing a job.

Rode the side-by-side up to the gate to open it when he left, and met a fellow named Nathan about to hike the old road down to the lake. He came over to introduce himself, he's somewhat new to the area and looking for work. He had electrical and solar installation experience, but didn't give the right answers for me to be his next employer. Seemed to be in his 40s, with a new degree in horticulture, and seemed interested in starting a tree trimming business. That seems to me to be a young man's job, and suggested he hire himself out as a marijuana growing consultant instead. Didn't seem interested in that, but so it goes.

Van didn't throw any error codes on yesterday's drive, even the short test drive with my new house guest, with me scampering around in the back listening for rattles and squeaks. Learned that the latch for the pop top hadn't been bolted down tightly, then after it was, it rattled even more loudly. Also found several places where the glue holding sheetmetal stiffeners in place had broken free, and I'm not sure how to fix those but they're buzzing, too. I think today I'll get him to squirt water around the doors and windows while I mark the leaks with tape. And we might try to make some adjustments to hinges and such to stop them. Not sure what we'll get into after that; maybe just enjoy the view and some music on the back porch. He's got a new dobro guitar he wants to play, and that sounds like a good use of some time as well.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend, even with a "fall back" time change.

Moose is no tougher than venison.

Our 400 series highways have fences where there is an abundance of wildlife.

Good Afternoon Everyone!!!!

A clear and sunny 25ºF morning low temperatures, a clear and sunny 40ºF presently, and I anticipate a clear and sunny afternoon with temperatures reaching the mid 40ºF's. I got the wood stove fired up earlier this AM, l put a full load in it, and now with all the sunshine I can let the fire die out and let the sunshine in. ;) If the house cools down later I'll fire up the downstairs mini-split and take advantage our rather large credit with the electric company. I did the weekly dump run, balanced the Tundra's tire pressures, and the wheel shake got worse. Monday I'll call my local mechanic. :(

Hello to Fishman.

David- Good luck with the battery bank replacement and the generators mods. I hope that you get your Tundra back soon.

The expensive $ things we learn with and during home ownership and/or owning products of quality :(:

BEF- More progress reported

I hope that everyone is having a decent Saturday.

My + thoughts and prayers.

68°F and .03 inches rain.
A drastic, unplanned shift today. Prepping for my battery replacement.

The area of attention
IMG_0954.JPG
While the current set are something of floor based space hogs the new bank will be wall mounted, 3 rows 4 high. Plans pencilled out and off to HD this morning to buy some 11/2 x 11/2 slotted angle.
Part of the challenge is to get as much prebuilt as possible but actual install can’t happen until I remove the existing batteries which won’t be until day of install.
Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
