   / Good morning!!!! #100,882
62°F and rain this morning, clearing and going up to 67° today. Actually warmed up over night. The thunder storms woke us around 4am, and the dogs made sure we stayed awake until the alarm clocks went off at 5am.

Spent Saturday morning working on outside stuff. Wife decided to power wash the driveway pad, while I was sorting and moving old railroad ties behind the barn. She got to play with the new power washer (which we actually bought about six months ago for the deck), and I got some tractor seat time. Everybody wins. The LS had no problem lifting a RR tie with nothing on the back. Two at a time, though, was not going to happen. First time I've lifted the rear wheels, and already sure I don't want to make it a habit.

We stopped early to get cleaned up for a visit with friends. Drove to a favorite Mexican restaurant in Granite City and met everyone at 3pm for an early dinner, as some of the guys had gigs to play that night. My "best" friend even talked me into trying a shot of some new tequila they'd recently discovered; Cincoro reposado, which is apparently partly owned by Michael Jordan. Very smooth stuff. The food was great, and the company was even better. We had an after party at the home of the old singer from the Sammy Hagar tribute band. The couple who'd hired us to play a show in SanFran back in 2014 were in town, which was the whole point of the get-together. We sat around a fire pit for far too long sharing entertaining stories. Mark, the husband of the visiting couple, asked if I'd be willing to come out of retirement to go back to SanFran to play another show. Tempting.

Sunday was a more relaxed day. I had some grand plans for the day, none of which happened. I instead decided to babysit the large burn pile out in the pasture. Some of that stuff has been in there for several years, like the carpeting we pulled out of the house when we remodeled, and a bunch of old fence posts. Way past due to burn. I had a surprisingly difficult time getting it to really get going, even with the propane torch. Then, I remembered someone here talking some time ago about using a leaf blower to get some much-needed oxygen into the pile. So, I walked back and got the backpack blower out and ... well, that definitely did the trick.

Here's a pic of the feeble fire before the blower showed up.

Had to make a run to Tractor Supply for chicken feed Sunday afternoon, then spent the rest of the evening working on my guitar. Got everything soldered together, strung it up and it played! There is an issue with the tone pot not working right, which I traced to a boneheaded wiring mistake. Ran out of time last night, so I'll fix it tonight. After that, it just needs some setup time to get it to play like butter.

When stringing it up, I noticed the tuners were getting a little harder to turn, and found that several of the little nylon spacers between the knobs and the bridge body had torn and were in the process of destroying themselves. So, as I already kind of suspected, I'm going to have to replace the bridge/tremolo assembly. I've already replaced the head piece at the top of the neck with a better design, but I wanted to at least give the stock bridge a chance.

I'm jokingly going to miss having that "Overlord of Music" stamp on it, a moniker that generates a great deal entertaining conversation in the kit guitar builders circles.

Nice truck, Buppies. Congrats. That dash board looks like the glass panel nav/comm systems they put in aircraft these days.

Ted- Nice job:cool: Thanks for sharing:)

Paul- Lifting the rears will definitely get one's attention  I forgot that you had a cab. You have a nice looking tractor. I am happy that you and Wifey had a great time partying and reminiscing with friends. Good luck rebuilding your guitar. I know nothing about guitars and music, but yours looks pretty fancy. I should try that tequila. I like reposido tequilas. Right now I am savoring a Patron Reposido. A little pricey.

Stovepipe/SS chimney is cleaned and vacuumed out with my canister vac. There is very little creosote buildup with this new energy efficient wood stove and the SS chimney. I still clean it 2X/year for safety's sake. While on the roof I noticed some flashing had lifted = another project.

71°F and .01 inches rain, just started.

Us guys got our butts beat at cards yesterday, 2nd worst loss this year.

The two stray. Pups were claimed by a neighbor across the stream. They appeared happy to see a familiar face and eagerly jumped in the UTV.

This morning will be a continuation of yesterday’s efforts.

Wife gets her new crown installed this afternoon, then it’s Happy Hour at friend’s in town.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

safe and sound in the Candy Hill Campground in Winchester Va.
Here much earlier than I thought, good news is no problem navigating in downtown Hagerstown, bad news is Amish market
only open on Thursday, Friday and Sat. Knew I was beat when no cars in parking lot...

Sure wish I waited until I got out of Pa to buy diesel, almost forty cents more expensive than Virginia. Plus I got slimed by the diesel nozzle at Petro, need to remember to take a rag out with me.

David, glad the dogs found a home.

16 foot wide mobile home being transported down I-81 with one lane out due to construction. No one could get around for awhile.
I did avoid the PA turnpike though, decided to go North on NE Extension and then West on 78. Lot of construction and concrete barriers but otherwise a fine ride.
PA expansion joints in the roads, bump, bump, bump, bump....

David- I am happy to read that the stray dogs were owned and found by their owner.

Lou- Thanks for the information. I checked out their website  From their locator it might be hard to find locally around here excepting the Springfield MGM casino.

Drew- I am happy to read that you arrived safe and sound and early at your campground.

Hawkeye- I am sorry to read about your ongoing back challenges negatively impacting on your activities and quality of sleep.:( I can not sleep without a pillow between my knees and a cold bed and bedroom due to my neuropathy BS. It's hard to function w/o restful sleep.

I don't drink enough to know the difference between reposados, blancos, and añejos. I only know that my initial experiences with tequila was back in the '80s with that disgusting Jose Cuervo stuff. :yuck: Over the last decade or so, my friends have introduced me to some really tasty stuff; Cabo Wabo in the old blue bottles (when you can find it), Herradura (any variety, but the Ultra añejo seems top of the line), ... honestly, I've tried so many I just can't remember them all. I'm told Cincoro is made by the same family who started the Cabo Wabo brand with Sammy Hagar, which explains why it's so good. I believe it's around $90-100/bottle.

I was surprised to find that one of the better tequilas I've tried, Espolòn, is only about $20/bottle. I've found it to be every bit as good as the stuff that's three or four times that price. Even my tequila snob friends love it.
