Good Morning!!!! 39F @ 4:00AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 68F. ENE winds shifting to WNW at 10 to 15 mph.
Coldest day of the winter season so far down here.

That's a pretty slick clamping setup for your welding table, Paul. Thanks once again for the tips!

Looking into possibly a "LadyBird" deed to try and save her home from probate. Still anxious from the unknowns. I need to try to set up an appointment maybe with an attourney that Don sent me a name.
I'm not a lawyer, Kyle, but years ago a lawyer set up a revolkable trust for my parents that sheltered their estate from probate. I've had one for quite a while, too, but after the move it needed updating. I purchased a subacription from Nolo Press for about fifty bux to do it myself. Very timely considering what I've just gone through with my friend.
now I have to figure out how to get all the mineral/iron water spotting off my car.
The Promaster van had been sitting six months on the dealer's lot before I bought it, and the roof was literally crusty with water spots. I tried all kinds of stuff to get rid of the spots, finally settling on a microfiber towel and white vinegar. Lots of elbow grease, too. Then I saw this stuff on a pro detailer's YouTube channel and got some to try. Seemed to work just as well as the vinegar, but I haven't given it a real workout yet.

Yesterday was pretty unbelieveable. Friday my friend's nurse got excited about brief bouts of higher blood pressure and rapid heart rate, which resulted in a series of doses of drugs that were supposed to alleviate the problems. Which they did overnight. So Saturday should have been discharge day, but the doctors wanted another 24 hours of observation. OK, fine. So we spent Saturday thinking that discharge would come late in the day. Uh uh. Five o'clock came and went, until finally at around six we got the word that Sunday would be the day. So with all this time to prepare paperwork and get any last minute tests out of the way, I got down there at nine o'clock yesterday expecting to be on our way home by noon. Oh no, they want an electro cardiogram. Waited an hour and a half for that. Then they needed blood work again. More waiting. Then a shot of blood thinner. Why? Especially considering that 24 hours ago we were keeping our fingers crossed that the stent would stop leaking. Then they ordered blood pressure, heart rate and pain perscriptions, Lost another hour, and my friend isn't feeling any pain except in the pocketbook. By now it's four PM and the sun's going down. Finally the discharge orders are issued and the IVs come out, and at four-thirty I get the car and park it at the main entrance. Another fifteen minutes go by while they find someone to push the fully amblitory patient a hundred feet in a wheelchair. So we end up finishing an hour long drive along a twisty section of CA 1 in the dark, letting another driver go first in case a deer, wild hog, or cow should wander onto the road. Don't get me wrong, I'm tremendously grateful for the doctors that literally saved my friend's life. But the administration behind the miracle is nothing short of shameful, and fully to blame for the skyrocketing cost of medical treatment in this country.

Hope everyone's week gets off on the right foot...

now I understand the pipe clamp, a gasketed bolted connection vs having to weld the pipes.
must be for larger water systems
since all gaskets can compress...do you have to tighten those bolts over time?
looks like a softer gasket, not like a car head gasket.

Good Morning,
Ct, 26 to start going to 40 , nice sun now but a chance of a flurry or a bit of rain later ! Looks like our last warm day for awhile!

Paul, thanks for the detailed explanation, I actually remember that tool in my machining days ! Impressive that that magnet on the drill has that kind of holding power ! Also remember seeing that tool used in the erecting shop at Farrell Corp when I was serving my apprenticeship! Probably much better these days !

Kyle , continued prayers for your Mom along with all the associated problems! I vividly remember going through all of this with my Mom and Pop ! Never easy !🙏

My Food Manager Certification test is scheduled for tomorrow morning, so more additional study today ! Did I ever tell you I hate taking tests ! This test is proctored so an additional stress factor of somebody watching you through the test period ! All I can do is be prepared I guess !

Enjoy your last warm day guys ! 🙏

good morning, 27 going to 41 warmer for sure

Should melt some of the snow and ice today

I am leaving the plows on for now though. Mounting the V plow on the coldest day and snowing was harder than it should be. Interesting how weather makes it difficult. First forgot the trailer hitch was on in the front, Then lining up the attachment points for the pins was trial and error process for a while driving up checking and doing it again and again, and then it would not engage even when hooking up the connections and putting it in float position. Got the idea to use a load strap with a ratchet to pull it in place.
Anyway doing it ahead of time when the weather is nicer is the way to go

Good Morning
27° with a high of 40 planned for today. High overcast, but fair skies.

Yesterday started in the shop, I sure made a lot of metal chips drilling all those holes. I think that I have everything swept up, did quite a bit of tidying in the process.
My mechanical contractor buddy stopped by to borrow my ultrasonic leak detector to fix someone’s DIY mini split install. There was a leak in a line set inside a (just) finished wall in a rehab job. We talked a bit about how we wouldn’t ever bury a flare connection, but would swage and braze it, and leak check with nitrogen before the wall was finished.
When I got back to the old folks home, wife had a batch of pictures for me to hang. Most involved moving furniture, one required a 10’ step ladder.
IMG_5956.jpg

Buddy called me when he finished his repair, (flare nuts weren’t tight enough), and we decided to take the little plane out for a late lunch, so he met me at the airport. He really enjoys flying, and I try to make every lunch run a lesson. Yesterday, he taxied to the runway, took off and flew to the airport in NJ (with a restaurant on it) without any intervention. The lessons must be working. Inspired by the progress, we took the long way home, and did some air work.

Got home in time to hang up some more art before starting a fire and watching “The Last Waltz” and testing the limits of the built in speakers in the great room. Wife reached her limit before the hardware did……

Cooked some frozen meatloaf, steamed some green beans and pretty much ended the day in front of the fire.

Drew is correct, I do not have a roll groover, I’ve never needed one, but who knows what the future will bring!

On one of my Hondas once upon a time, bought new key fob from Honda, and seems I just had to go thru some series of button presses for it to learn. Might have been 15 yrs ago on 2008 pilot. Maybe a magic wand was also used.

Then I saw this stuff on a pro detailer's YouTube channel and got some to try. Seemed to work just as well as the vinegar, but I haven't given it a real workout yet.

When my intense efforts to get grass growing late in the season had sprinklers hitting the windows and leaving water spots from the hard water after a few weeks of exposure, I tried to wash the windows with Windex. The water spots just laughed at it. Then I tried CLR, which took them right off. I’m not sure how the CLR would treat the paint, but it sure worked on glass.
Whenever I hose off a car or even the tractor cab, I use the handheld Stihl blower as a chamois to dry the glass without the dreaded spots. In hindsight, I should have done that with the windows of the old folks home.

Good morning TBN!!

Balmy 29 this morning with some clouds. Should get to a sunny 40s today.
Not much again yesterday. Puttered around the shop a bit and a couple of walks with the dog. Since the cold and snow have set in I have cut my steps in half. Been getting the dogs steps in on the 4 wheeler mostly. But at least he gets his exercise. I think he likes it more when we walk it together.
Walked past the tractor yesterday and tried to start it. It started up but I throttled it down to much and it wouldn't crank again.
I wonder it there is anything to be aware of when starting it this cold? I figure if it starts and I just let it idle for a while I am good. Any thoughts on that?
Today holds more of the same. Walk, ride and putter. Should turn my attention back to the buggy but can't seem to motivate myself. That's alright. It will still be there :)
Getting a late start this AM so off to bundle up and get the dog some exercise.

Everyone have a great and safe day!!

Morning all, 28 going to 45 and cloudy
Did get in about 2 hours of cutting back the firebush, crape myrtles and all the other greenery around the pool and garden area.
Seems the deer have been jumping my pool fence ??
Not sure what was attracting them, hopefully did not ruin the cover.

Did not find energy to put new exhaust cover on chainsaw or retune it.

Was thinking about going out, but felt too under the weather , so I didn't

Paul/PopGadget - table came out great, nice drill.

Phil - the shaping and grain really pop the way you make those ornaments, really nice.

good luck on the test Scotty

Be well,

learned about a new tool today
a piping roll groover
probably even something Popgadget doesn't have...

anyone ever use this method on piping?
I admit not sure I understand how it works and prevents leaks
Often used in sprinkler (fire suppression) systems also know as Victaulic.
The only place I've seen internal grooves is in bell and socket piping so it may be a bet newer then me.

Everyone have a great and safe day!!
When I start mine in cold weather after she smooths out and sounds decent I'll pump the rpm up to 12-1500 rpm and give them several minutes at that rpm to get the engine warmed up good.
Also at a low idle your alternator is not going to replace the energy you sucked from the battery to get started between the glow plugs/ manifold heater and the starter draw it will need several minutes to recharge.

Good Morning to all who celebrate! 35 here going to a high of 42, cloudy. That's going to feel tropical after last week, now that I have my insulated overalls, it warms up. Isn't that always how that song and dance goes?

Did manage to swap the snow-push out for the bucket and burn the Christmas boxes. Will do a full clean out after the table and hutch my parents are hording for my sister are gone. Need to put the golf wedges I received as a Christmas present in my bag. Golf seems a long way away now. Also need to think about 100 hour service on tractor soon. I'm pretty confident the manual states just fuel filters and oil change, but will verify. If I have to take the loader off, that will be quite the process.

So far, so quiet at work this week. Don't want to say that too loud because they always know. Budget meeting on Thursday, so that will be an experience. Otherwise, nothing major on the docket.

Prayers for those ailing or recovering! Stay safe out there y'all and enjoy the week!

Drew here is an option instead of a leaf blower:

  • PERFORMANCE GURU Car Dryer Blower: Harness the power of the 64mm turbofan ducted motor delivering 1600g of thrust and 600W of power, Perfect for swiftly drying away water spots, blasting through snow, and clearing leaves with ease

Generally industrial or fire suppression systems. I think they go down to 3/4” pipe but are very expensive. The clamps are tightened once to specs and if it leaks it’s time for a new gasket. The gaskets are rubber of various materials depending on what’s flowing through the pipes.

In a time long ago and a place far away I worked for a company that built industrial wastewater treatment systems that used lots of these types of clamps.
Hope this helps

Drew, shoveling is for younger people than me. I NEVER shovel. Thanks for your concerns anyway.

Happy, I use about 1 ounce of Power service (in the white bottle) to EVERY 7 gallons of diesel, touch wood I have NEVER had a problem with gelled fuel.
I agree with Lou. Rev it up and let it warm up.

Time to go out and play in the snow.

/ Good morning!!!! #201,777
I use about twice as much Power Service product. About 2 oz for the RTV fill up yesterday of 6 gallons. Had experience on gelling several years ago on the big tractor so use this product for every winter fill up from the farm diesel fuel tank

66°F and 1.19 inches rain and raining.

The waiting game begins. Scheduled for a Sears service call. Window is 8-5. Hoping earlier than later.

Happy Hour being hosted by recently new neighbor.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I did the fancy button pushing thing so it now opens and locks the doors. Still won't do the engine though!
It would be easier for everyone else if we just chopped off the hands of car thieves.
