I'd bed good money that there are way more computers on that truck than there are tires, Drew.:duh:

Going through the diagrams on my late wife’s Ford Edge Limited we were able to identify 57 separate computers and modules.

Jay, good luck with the ferry. Might be a very bouncy ride.
They say you are having a "snowless Nor'easter"

We have reservations for the 5:00PM ferry. It looks like it will depart as scheduled so far. Tomorrow looks poorly for ferry traffic.

I have yet to read/see "snowless Nor'easter," but it does meet the 40N/70W benchmark track criteria and has tracked like a Miller A storm. I have seen "atypical tropical coastal storm" description. Most of the tropical moisture feed currently is tracking west of the MA Islands.

We still have hotel reservations here on MV for tonight and also in Falmouth, MA. Reservations not met tonight/tomorrow will be applied to future visits.

We'll see.

That痴 similar to all brands of vehicle from a Ford to a Mercedes. They don稚 have traditional keyboard so they use what they have.

I let the ex-mechanic talk me into using a later Engine Management Unit on the van, one that supported On Board Diagostics Version II (OBDII). With OBDI, you only got a single LED and had to count flashes and patterns to figure out what it's trying to tell you. Kinda like charades. I bought a Bluetooth dongle for twenty bux, and spent five bux on an app, and I can read all the error codes and reset them, and a lot more, too. The dealer uses the same port with more sophisticated hardware and software to run diagnostics and exercise various systems. I have an older version of a tester from AutoEnginuity that approaches that level of functionality, but it's no longer supported by the company and was too sophisticated for me to ever really figure out. But it would record data and generate plots on a laptop in real time so you could look at things like O2 sensors, throttle position, RPM, and various temperatures. The little app I use now does a lot of the same thing, and it runs on an iPhone or iPad. Heck, for twenty bux at HF you can get a dedicated reader that does some of that, and for several grand Snap-On will sell you one that's as good as or better than the ones from the factory. Swinging doors and turning keys went out in '94 when most manufacturers switched over to OBDII. I guess it's good they left the monkey motion in the system in case an owner is a die hard do-it-yourselfer, or maybe I'm mistaken and that's really the only way to do that reset? If so, it is another sign of the approaching Apocalypse.

You two can both swim, right? :D

Regardless, might be a good idea to note where the lifejackets are stowed, and spend the rough parts of the crossing nearby...

Termite man just left. He'll need to drill 1/2" holes under the foundation all around the perimeter of the house. Including through about a hundred linear feet of patio concrete. He'll be here Friday, and go home with a check for $2200. I asked him how much power his hammer drill uses, just in case the power's not back on by then. Figure I can charge him two bux a Watt hour and maybe break even.

OBD2 became the standard in 96, but some 95 models had a hybrid version of it. I have software on an old laptop that lets me do real time testing while driving. It shows any misfire, lean/rich cycles, injector pulse and nearly everything else. But the average owner doesn’t have that and these in the field resets are aimed at them, not the dealer. The dealer can plug in and do any of it. I set mine up when I was doing all the LT1 and LS swaps into my classic cars. Sure cuts down on the guesswork.

Good Morning. It's 67ー this morning and headed to 92ー this afternoon. Summer's back ... at least for a bit. Forecast says 95ー tomorrow. Maybe ... some much needed rain Friday.

I need to get back to more tree trimming before it gets hot today.

That explains why the ex-mechanic picked a '95 model year EMU out of a Legacy for the engine swap. Are you saying that EMUs from 1995 would also flash the CEL to convey messages in response to the appropriate monkey motion?:confused2:

A windy (20-25 mph constant) and rainy 60コF here on MV and the weather is expected to deteriorate further today/tomorrow as this strong low pressure further develops and tracks over the Cape and Islands. We may leave today, a day early, as it is looking ever more likely that the ferry service will not be running tomorrow due to wind and sea conditions. We'll see. We've BTDT with most to the Martha Vineyards attractions already.

One thing I/We noticed is that in 60コF temperatures many of the MV locals break out their winter coats; and there we were wearing T-shirts. At the restaurant last night many down vest and winter coat patrons were complaining about "the draft" as the waitstaff were serving us on an enclosed (and heated) "outdoor" deck. It was freakin' hot. One couple had "0" tolerance (probably wanted to avoid tipping the waitstaff. Oh well too bad for them. We had a great time and great food. I discovered that hot sake and key lime pie pair well.;)
