Good morning! It's 65°F this morning and clear. Forecast high is 83°F for 5his afternoon. The "predicted" thunderstorms, last evening, never materialized and next forecast rain is now pushed back until tomorrow afternoon / evening.

With the anticipated rain yesterday and the winds, I didn't even get my spray rig out so, still have some spraying around two pond to finish.

The "yard", around the house, is drying out well so ...... hoping to get that 9 acres mowed today.

RNG .... Food for thought. A friend of mine bought a 180 acre parcel of land, in Fayette County Texas, several years ago. He got a reasonably good deal on a lightly worked D6 Cat and used it for "weekend" land clearing. He had it for six years and resold it for within a few dollars of what he paid for it after his land clearing was complete.

I recommend renting a Tak with a tooth bucket for a week, $1,500.00 be my guess. Most of the machines these days except for the Bobcats are hand controls, intuitive if you致e operated an FEL on a tractor. That way you get to learn what it can do for you. The biggest issue for most people is figuring out how to let the machine do the work.

The track loader I played with a few years ago was a Bobcat, and I really didn't care for the two control levers it used. I can't imagine trying to mow for long periods of time with that setup; my arms would fall off. Didn't like the foot controls for the bucket, either. About the only thing I did like about it was it felt really stable on a side hill.

I really like the idea of renting a machine to get a feel for it. I understand some dealers will loan one out for a short test as well, but I'm not sure that applies to used machines and I'm not ready to jump into a new one just yet.

Your insights are priceless, Harvey. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share them. I try to stand on the shoulders of giants whenever I can, and you're turning out to be one of them. And I'm very happy to hear that your heart is as strong as it is good.:thumbsup:

Good morning to all! The low last night only of 47, going up to 80 today and sunny. Tomorrow should become "breezy" (considered windy everywhere else) and temps dropping 10-15 degrees cooler.

The last couple of days I have been finishing up a few small projects, so still no real seat time on the new tractor. It's still damp in areas, so I really didn't want to get it all muddy anyway....

Today I will be going over the tractor checking all the bolts and greasing a bunch of zerks that were missed during setup/prep. Haven't found any loose bolts which is a good thing.

Mostly, I'll get in line behind Drew for that boat ride....hey, maybe you can start a charter service....

Harv, I'm also curious about the cost of one of those shelters.

I never knew that "coasting" was a violation. When I had a manual transmission, I would put it in neutral all the time going downhill. Learning something new here every day.

It's 36° again this morning with partly cloudy skies. Yesterday was in the low 70's. The thunderstorm missed us but it was windy in the afternoon. Today is going to be back in the 70's and becoming cloudy by the afternoon. The forecast doesn't look that good for the next 10 day's with highs in the 50's and the lows in the 30's. With a chance of rain or snow every day.

Worked on the fence yesterday and got most of it done. I only need to put a few poles back.

I have run my neighbors SS a few times and it was a fun experience. I think a SS would be a better option for my place then the tractor but I'm not getting one anytime soon.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 6:00AM. Rain. High 64F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.

Rain clouds overhead and all around, but nothing in the gauge yet. The winds have already knocked over the porch furniture, so putting that away will be this morning's first job.

You might wanna replace that newfangled excuse of a car with something more practical before they cart you off to jail, Don. Maybe an old Diesel pickup truck with four-on-the-floor and big disc brakes? But don't ever let 'em catch you coasting in it 'cause you won't have the electronics to blame!:laughing:

Hope everyone's aches, pains, and other health issues get cleared up pronto. It's almost summer, and that means it's time to be healthy!

Good luck with the trailer backing, Bill. Hopefully you'll have a spotter around to keep you out of trouble?

Yesterday didn't go as planned. I heard back from a post I'd made requesting help on the van's A/C wiring, and switching one wire didn't seem like that big a deal so I started the day on that. But that one wire was already wrapped in a couple yards of electrical tape, and I had to unwrap all of it to dig it out. Once it was free and connected, though, the electronic brain on the van knew when the A/C kicked on and increased the idle speed out of the stumble range, something it wasn't doing with the old wire the ex-mechanic said to use. Then I got to try out some new-to-me 3M electrical tape, their Super88 brand, and it worked just fine. Not sure it worked that much better than the Super33 stuff I have been using, and definitely not twice as well at twice the price!

I had to open up a little plastic box on the wall of the engine compartment to get at the wires, and opening the door requires disconnecting the air intake to the throttle body. One of the fittings on the air intake wasn't installed very securely, and very likely it was leaking. So I massaged the clamps and fittings a bit on that and hopefully that'll take care of another error code that keeps coming back.

I was gonna start taking the front axles off, but the front end of the van needed to be up in the air and the only jack stands I trust are currently propping up the tractor. That's gonna be a pretty dirty job, so it didn't take much for me to procrastinate on it.:laughing:

Spent the rest of the day gluing the padding to the floor of the driver and passenger side of the van, then starting the carpet installation. I've been pretty impressed by how well the pieces in the kit were cut to fit just right, and some were even cut and sewn to better conform to the various contours of the foot wells. Looks nice, too, and covers up a lot of ugly paint as well. I was afraid that if I screwed up and got a piece out of place, the contact cement I'm using would make it difficult to adjust, but if I let it dry long enough, it'll let go without a lot of trouble. Good thing, as I seem to be doing a lot of adjusting.:laughing:

Not sure I'll get much more done in that direction over the next few days because of the rain, so I'll alternate making up more sound deadening sandwich panels with tinkering on the "new" BMW dual sport bike while the glue dries on the panels. Been burning a mosquito coil out in the garage while I work, and so far the bugs have been leavin' me alone.:thumbsup:
