Don, good post on heart attacks. As the city has moved out our my way we 3 hospitals that are fully staffed. A TBN member is head of the ER at one of the hospitals. The question is whether to make a quick 7 mile run to hospital ER or wait for the ambulance that is 7 miles away in other direction.

Sounds like you are in a good location for Emergency help. Where is the closest fire station and are they paid - on duty at the station 24-7, or volunteer?

Call an ambulance since you would have to drive yourself and things can go South quickly. no use having a MVA and a heart attack. The Ambulance can start treatment sooner and they have a AED on board, plus if you arrive at the hospital via ambulance things in the ER seem to go quicker - they will already have an evaluation, an IV will have been started and they will have a strip to give the hospital showing a irregular heart beat and of course they will have the personal to start CPR. If whoever calls for the ambulance also uses the key words chest pain and having difficulty breathing, which will be the case if still conscious, a fire truck first responder will be sent to assist the Ambulance in CPR if needed before the ambulance gets there and during transport. There is always the possibility that both Ambulances are on a call. In the country Lots of people depend on the helicopter but there is an even greater chance that the helicopter is out on a call since it covers 3 counties and also makes transfers from the local hospital that cannot handle the emergency, or weather is bad or foggy or too windy or it is being serviced etc . . .

Good morning! 49˚F heading to the mid 50s overcast.

4. Add 1 16 oz jar of green chile sauce (this is the magic...we haven't been able to beat the flavor of Hatch Valley sauce that we've ordered from 505 Southwestern in Albuquerque, but they've been bought out and shipping cost is sky high now...I guess my job will be to make up my own batch).

Thanks for sharing that recipe, Wng!

Magic indeed. I used to make frequent trips to Albuquerque, and many times took along a down vest, even in the summer. Back in the day when you could carry more than 4 oz. of something in your carry on, I'd swing by a grocery store on the way to the airport and pick up a couple 16 oz. containers of frozen chili. I'd wrap them in the vest and they'd stay frozen all the way home.

Somehow the Hatch green chili in the cans just isn't the same, and as you've found, shipping the frozen stuff just isn't practical or affordable. Too bad because green chili is supposed to be good for you!

.

Closest fire station is about 1 1/2 miles away. But it is volunteer. There is a large manufactured home community about 3/4 mile away. They seem to get good service.

Good Morning!!!! 36F @ 4:45AM. Sunny. High 51F. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 mph.

I hope you win the Yanmar, Don. As one poster said in that thread, "I couldn't win a tick at a dog show", so you all have fun and best of luck.

Speaking of luck, I did manage to figure out the coolant level alarm problem on the van yesterday, and I'm more than a little embarrassed to say that the control relay was in the wrong spot on the fuse panel. I was tracing wires again and wasn't getting continuity where it should have been, so took a big step back and got out the diagram for the panel. That's when I noticed a row of relays located up inside the dash where they couldn't be seen without removing the panel from its holder. No sure way of telling how it got out of place, but it's more than likely it was me that did it.:ashamed:

Howeverr, that prompted me to check the other relays on the panel, and I learned that the one for the intermittent wipers was an aftermarket one that allows the wiping interval to be varied by careful manipulation of the control lever. A silver lining to go with the cloud that came over and started dumping just as I was putting the relay back into its proper position and watched as the LED behaved itself.

That would have been the end of working on the van for the day, but when I retreated inside I made a post to a forum to ask about the battery hold down clamp, which I'd never been able to figure out. The post was very quickly answered, and the clamp I had was the wrong one. The included picture showed the right one, and it was easier for me to notch a piece of steel and make my own than find a place to sell me one. By the time the notching was done and the trial fit found to be successful, the sun was out again and I was able to get a coat of paint on it. So two fixes in one day after a long dry spell made for a happy ending.

Maybe today I should tackle the leaking skylight since we'll have three dry days in a row to figure out what's wrong, and I have a Harbor Freight tarp laying around in case I don't? Or, with the saw buck done, maybe I should instead start picking through the brush pile to pull out the pieces that would make decent firewood, and get the rest ready to fire for what the weather guessers say will be a calm day tomorrow? Decisions, decisions...

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'...

Great info, Don
The focus of our class was cardiac arrest, very different from heart attack in that patient is unconscious. As described to us, heart attack is essentially a plumbing problem, cardiac arrest is an electrical problem.

Yes, that is correct, the electrical and plumbing problems of the heart are separate, but they often go hand in hand. Plumbing problems cause the electrical problems in 80% of fatal arrhythmias. According to the CDC, 47% of sudden death (from electrical problems) occur outside the hospital suggesting that people with plumbing problems of the heart don't "act on early warning signs".

heart attack and cardiac arrest
These two distinct heart conditions are linked. Sudden cardiac arrest can occur after a heart attack, or during recovery. Heart attacks increase the risk for sudden cardiac arrest. Most heart attacks do not lead to sudden cardiac arrest. But when sudden cardiac arrest occurs, heart attack is a common cause. Other heart conditions may also disrupt the heart’s rhythm and lead to sudden cardiac arrest. These include a thickened heart muscle (cardiomyopathy), heart failure, arrhythmias, particularly ventricular fibrillation, and long Q-T syndrome. Heart Attack or Sudden Cardiac Arrest: How Are They Different? | American Heart Association

Another problem, unless you have the AED device in your house it's probably too far away. You only have several minutes to connect.

The best solution, don't ignore the early warning signs. Sometimes, like in my case, there was no chest pain just trouble catching my breath. It wasn't till about 30 minutes into the heart attack that I started having chest pains, I was doing the classic fist on chest without even knowing it. If you see someone holding their fist over their heart call an ambulance they are having an active heart attack and time is ticking when they could suddenly go into cardiac arrest.

51°F here this morning and overcast. Scattered rain in the area but, nothing here so far. Forecast is for temps to just get to 55°F, this afternoon, with a 10-20% chance of rain for the rest of the day.

Ranch is finally starting to dry up / firm up. I mowed about 10 acres with the Kubota ZT yesterday and found few soft places.

Rear suspension on our Polaris Ranger is making noises going over bumps so, guess I need to jack it up, remove back wheels, and check all the suspension bushings. That will be an in the shop project if we get rain and mowing gets cancelled today / tomorrow. I need to first check with our local Polaris Dealer to assure they have bushings, in stock, if I need any.

Hoping everyone has an excellent Friday Eve!

Prayers to all.
