It was 46°F here this morning. It sunny but, windy and forecast is for 64°F this afternoon. Winds are steady 12-15 mph with some 15-20 mph gusts.

I need to spray a few places, with glyphosate, if the wind dies down. That's not likely.

My safe bet, is to do some trimming around both tanks and the floating pier. We have two cypress trees near the pier and some cypress knees have come up under where the pier is connected to land. I'm hoping I can just pick that end up and chop out the knees underneath it. Anyone ever chopped out cypress knees? Do they grow back or come up somewhere else?

The only musical instrument I can play,is the stereo. My mom and most of her family were singers and musicians.
My daughter plays soprano sax, clarinet, keyboards and pretty much anything she wants. She taught herself to play keyboards in one evening using woodwinds music and by ear. I have no such talents.

I missed the race, but saw all the crash replays later. Honestly I prefer tractor and draft animal pulls. Watching those drivers reminds me of the Masshole drivers near Beantown who delusionally believe are great drivers regardless of road conditions.

Unfortunately, those people are everywhere, and you'll never convince them that they're not nearly as good at driving as they seem to think they are.

51 now, high 51, had another .3 of rain overnight, the ground is like a sponge. Two or three more days of rain by the weekend, some may briefly start as, or mix with snow. Grass is starting to green, wild onions are 8” tall in the far back where I don’t treat, just mow. Robins have been here for a month, larks and small birds are arriving daily. Typical March weather in February.

Sure you do, Randy. If one person can do it, any person can do it. Playing musical instruments is mostly a mechanical thing, with a small (yet important) artistic part. Pretty much anyone can learn to mechanically manipulate an instrument and make it sound notes. So long as you have the physical ability to move the keys or vibrate the strings, you can play an instrument. Anyone can be taught that, no different than typing or operating a machine. The artistic part, though, I don't believe can be taught. You either have it or you don't. That's why some musicians seem better than others.

I've always believed it's not so much about talent as it is about drive and desire. If you want to learn something - really want it - you will. Some people are really driven to learn music, while most see it as a passing fancy. Kind of like auto repair. It's not difficult either if you know what you're doing. I've always thought it would be nice to be better at auto repair. However, I've spent my time learning other pursuits instead ... namely music. I have the physical ability to do any repairs, I've just not applied myself enough to learning it better. And, so it goes with most people and music.

Thanks for the pep talk, Paul, but even though I very much love music, learning to play it, unless on the stereo, is beyond my grasp. The bottom line is that there are only so many hours in the day, and the time to become proficient at it just isn't there. But on top of that, I can't keep a rhythm to save my life, and it's a good day when I can breathe and walk at the same time. It's a miracle I made it this far. All of this only increases my appreciation for those that have mastered the skill, and especially those that have pushed beyond that and mould their artistic talents into such marvelous creations. The world is truly a better place with folks like you in it!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

A productive day yesterday, expecting another today.
Have to mail 2nd half property taxes. That lights the checking account. Need to make a dump run. Happy Hour this afternoon being hosted at neighbors.

Sad to read of all the friends passing and relative medical crises.

As for perspective, my adjustment was a bit different. Not me personally, but when wife was hit head on and suddenly in intensive care for 10 days, then visiting her 2 or 3 times a day for 5 months provided lots of time to think. Thankfully, I was semi retired at the time. We are certifiable unemployable and wouldn’t change that.

Posted as the artist you are Paul, and I agree. My Bud has the artistic gift, but his lack of self confidence holds him back despite all the + feedback with his music or photography.

I would extend that to include the entire readership here. I do not see any "takers" posting only "givers."

The times I've driven around Boston convinced me that I am better off out here in rural western MA/Baja VT(?) where the biggest driving hazards are the "groovers" who drive with the cosmic forces, the blue haired q-tips who can not see over the dashboard and like to tromp the gas on the rare straight-a-ways and then brake down to 20 mph for the numerous curves, and domestic and native wildlife. I think the "blue hairs" hone their driving skills. in FL during the Winter months.

28 this morning and currently 35. About it for the day. Rain coming in tomorrow night. NWS has issued a hydraulic outlook. Forecast is for 3-6 inches locally up to 8 inches. Rivers are already at minor to moderate flood stage.

Spent the morning spreading gravel around. Filling pot holes and entrances that have sunken over the years. Then put out some hay. Now to attempt a repair of the seat on the Kubota. Part of the suspension is broken. If I spend more than about 30 minutes in it I hurt for several days.

No musical talent here either. I played in the middle school band but am tone deaf. Never knew if or when I was off key. No artistic talent. But I do admire those that can play. I did learn to read music but only the base side. Never learned treble.

I’m probably in the top ten percent in upholstery and interior design including window treatments, I’ve forgotten more than most in the field will ever learn, I’m nearly that good good with body work , including fiberglass, and am an excellent automotive painter. All those things require natural talent and physical ability. Like playing an instrument, you can be taught the mechanics, but not the nuance. In those fields I have the knack. Not in music.
I can sit down and chord the guitar and pick the notes, nobody is going to confuse me with Chet Adkins or SRV. My daughter however couldn’t sew a pocket on a shirt, but she can listen to a song and play it back for you on half a dozen instruments, though she prefers having sheets.
I can’t teach you to be as good as I am at what I do well because it is talent not taught, same way you cannot teach me to play the guitar as well as you.

Very accurate. Some say voice can be taught, and I agree, to some degree. But there are some voices I'd rather not have to listen to...(such as mine, unless I'm in the closet).

My 13 year old seems driven at the moment. She's finger picking and doesn't like to use a pick yet. Hopefully, the boredom of living in the country with no close friends or neighbors, will keep her playing as a way to pass the time. She doesn't know how to read music, but said she's willing to learn. She doesn't want to take band. I asked her about learning the cello or bassoon, but she said "I want an electric bass." Hope that might make you chuckle PJ., enough to forget about the screwups of the day....for a moment. I told her, you just keep learning that guitar for now.

She's supposed to be outside tilling the garden with the 6hp tiller before it rains tonight/tomorrow....

The police incident yesterday was with a barricaded person with some mental health concerns. The incident was resolved peacefully and without incident.

My wife downloaded a piano teaching app that is really good. She will be proficient in about a year with daily practice longer with less practice, the app says. The app is called "Simply Piano" Simply Piano by JoyTunes - Apps on Google Play

It is used with her iPhone that listens to the notes she plays and gives feedback.

But some things you can start too late in life. My wife's Spanish teacher informed the class they do not have enough time to become proficient.

So Step I guess it depends on the complication of the knowledge sought, divided by the number of hours you dedicate to learning each day, minus your life expectancy.
