Good Morning & Happy New Year everyone.

Yep...black eye'd peas & cabbage worked in today's meal to bring good fortune.

/ Good morning!!!! #86,602
My New Years resolution came to me in a dream.
In this dream, my life slowed down. Way down. In this dream, I am prepared for the long winter. My chores are done including a wood shed full of dry firewood in which I will feed my old wood cook stove. The smell of baking bread bellows from the oven and the light from the burning log flickers through the glass of the stove's door. In this dream I sit in my cabin upon my hill watching the river empty into the harbour. I watch the water rushing as if it was in a hurry to get to the harbour before the final unfrozen days of winter. I watch the storm in the comforting heat of the wood cook stove. My final years of my life are finally slowed, my stress is non concerning. Only this moment is important. This moment is not fleeting but sustained and repeats itself. And only when I had my fill of this special moment my attention is turned to melancholy and nostalgia. And in these long winter nights I have the time to do justice to my own private thoughts and reflections of my life. What I did wrong, what I did right and my final search for God. And in my dream, the long winter days provides time to plan for the coming spring work so that I can start this lonely bliss and contentment of winter all over again.

May your vision for 2019 be pleasant for you to think about. After all it is only you who it has to satisfy.

Happy Birthday Roy. You're about three months older than me. Much wiser I'm sure too...

69 degrees out, can't stay inside

The smell of baking bread hmmm, any room for another in that dream? Smells good.

Good morning! 38 ˚F heading to 48 ˚F, cloudy cool North wind at 7-9 mph.

Happy New Year!
Happy Birthday Roy!

Drew, my advise to you to make your resolution as quickly and as painless as possible (if you qualify) - Intermittent Fasting Diet| Prolon FMD

Went to a new years eve neighborhood party down the street and met some more neighbors. The people out here in Elderland are very interesting and from all over the U.S.

Met one neighbor who had a goat farm in the hill country, had acreage a tractor, we compared notes on the advantage of the big "move" and they were exactly alike.

Met another neighbor (from right outside Elderland - he still can't qualify for admittance here ) who plans on moving here in 10 years but is still working on 3d printers. Apparently now they can use metal powder and lasers to make metal objects and parts. I wonder if they will ever change the name from a printer to a manufacturing unit.

Lot's to drink - non-alcohol, at the party and we were home by 10:45. A good way to start the new year.

Meanwhile back in the country (my VFD phone pager went off yesterday evening) the VFD was called to prepare a landing zone for a heart attack. It was down the street from one of my few aunts I have left so I text (or is it texted) her and she verified the transport. Thank goodness it was not her but someone we both know and he was in stable condition last night the last I heard.

Starting 8th year on plant based diet so officially it is no longer a diet, it's a lifestyle. In all my blood test there was never a protein deficiency, so why add the fat and cholesterol?

New info - no more fasting required for Cholesterol test. (but check with your Dr. if he still does it the old way) - ". . .Perhaps more important, large-scale analyses have shown that non-fasting lipids don’t weaken the connection between cholesterol levels and harmful events like heart attack and stroke. In fact, post-meal measures are thought to strengthen the ability of lipid levels to predict cardiovascular risk. This observation may stem from the fact that most people eat several meals plus snacks during the day. That means we spend most of our time in a “fed” state, not a fasting state. So lipid levels after eating may best reflect our normal physiology." Farewell to the fasting cholesterol test? - Harvard Health Blog - Harvard Health Publishing

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!!!

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy News Years with family and friends.

It was a foggy pre-dawn 33ºF to start the day with sleet and snow mixed with rain for Walk #1 over sleet covered ground. Slippery footing; fortunately my failing YakTraX suffered no catastrophic failure. Things did not go well for one morning dove during Walk#2. It was still too dark to see well, but either an owl or a hawk picked off one of the doves that I flushed. By 8:00AM it reached 46ºF which may be today’s high temperature. As anticipated, the wind is starting to pick up as the cold front starts moving in.

Randy- Thanks for sharing your Dad’s picture. Another member of the Greatest Generation. A lot of us are fortunate to be “Boomers.”

Rick- Nice car and a beautiful sunset too. Thanks for sharing.

Bill- I am happy to read that you are now semi-mobile. Take care of your knee it may take care of you and the results are not always pleasant. BTDT

“… 2 more rain events listed for the upcoming week. We need snow!”- Phil I am not a happy camper so far this Winter.

“…. Stayed up to kiss my wife at midnight, and was in bed asleep by 12:05… We'll have black eyed peas and greens today, too.”- Billy
Never made it. I barely made it through ‘Perry Mason.’ I was in bed by 10:05PM. We have “Hoppin’ John.”

Happy Birthday Roy- I hope your birthday goes as anticipated or even better, better than expected.

“… Only this moment is important.”- Ray- Thanks for sharing your dream and approach to life. Introspection and reflection are important to me in my search for meaning.

Don- Thanks for the link; past links and shared information as well.

I hope that everyone has a decent day today.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

It's cold this morning -15°, yesterday didn't get out of the mid teens. Today is going to be sunny with a light wind and a high around 10°.

Didn't make it up to the neighbors house last night. His heater quite running and his water froze. We stayed home and had a quite night. I didn't even try to see the new year come in.

Happy Birthday Roy, hope you have a great day.

Happy New Year everyone.
CWB.

Happy New Year everyone.

Not as cold as CWB Wyo, we are sitting about 1 degree inside a open barn. So outside may be 1 or 2 degrees colder.

40° this morning and sunny. Forecast says 59° for this afternoon.

I'm hoping to get to the wood splitting that I delayed yesterday to wash the Corvette. No rush .... as the only wood burning we do is the fire pit at the house and the fire pit down by the quarters in the workshop. We elected for two direct vent gas fireplaces in the house at the ranch and same at the Richmond house.

Usually cut a lot of 2-3" x 12" for the chimineas, on back porches as well.

Still too wet for any tractor work so ..... will have to be happy with running the 3-point splitter.

Happy belated birthdays to Mrs. Bird and Roy.

Drew .... I also need to shed 10 lbs. I just need to do it three times.

Hoping everyone has an excellent day and a great 2019.

Prayers to all.

Happy New Year's Day all. Hope and pray for a blessed year.

Happy Birthday Roy! Hope you have a great day.

Last night it was 44F here in Texas, and 56F in Dayton Ohio at one point....what the heck?

Don, congrats on your 8th year of your lifestyle diet. Will you have some black eyed peas? :) Glad you found the "sub culture" tractor club. I've been dreaming of one of those laser sintering deposition 3D printers for almost a decade. They still cost so much, and our funded projects don't usually have those kinds of funds to procure one at work. I'll just keep dreaming.

If anyone wants a 3D plastic printer for a hobby, here's one I can recommend ($749 unassembled). It's just a single filament model, but has some great features that many experienced users demand.
Original Prusa i3 MK3 - Prusa3D - 3D Printers from Josef Průša

You can download Autodesk Fusion 360, and declare yourself a "hobbyist" and use it for free. As long as you don't make over $100K a year with it. Then you can design your own models. Or, there are many websites to download other peoples' models. Thingyverse, GrabCad etc. There is a bit of a learning curve as to what you can, and can't do, but it is a fun and often useful hobby.

I've been suffering from digestational issues for almost a week (TMI), probably a virus. Only had low grade fever for a day when it started. Plus, I've developed a horrible cough. Need to go get some more Tussin-DM

Prayers for the sick, especially those with cancer. Prayers for cures and healing. Also for our nation and the world, and the leaders of each nation.

Welcome new folks, Howdy from Texas! (I see L120 is from here).

Happy birthday Roy!
Up to 66° now, it’s been 65° since just after midnight, .26” of rain from the system passing through last night, got very breezy for a while.
Black eyed peas in the slow cooker, greens are waiting also. Taking down the rest of the decorations today. Got a bit of shopping today, but hopefully not too much.

Buppies, I hope your equipment works out for you.

Good to see the new and infrequent posters today.

Happy New Year folks.
