Good morning!!!!

Looks like being another dry day today. Too close to frost to risk doing any brickwork though, so collecting firewood is the next job down the list.

Ed, I like the idea of getting 5 years ahead in felling hardwoods, then I wouldn't have to worry about how I stack it. Alas, our woodburners are always so hungry that I doubt I will ever reach that goal. Global "warming" hasn't yet had much affect on their appetite.

19 going to 21F Wind NNW 8 gusting to 18 mph. Snow for today, 2 - 4 cm so about 2-4" more or less. The block heater is turned on and come daybreak I will be out there doing my thing.

I got nothing on the go except for the plowing.

Have a good day all

37 going to 62...last warm day for a while.

Rick, real nice truck. I know you'll enjoy it (except city parking :) ).

While doing inspections, I found some cracks in the caulk along some of the window trim. I'll take advantage of the warm day and clean out old caulk, recaulk, and if time, touch up some paint. Unfortunately on one window, their are some rotten spots in the lower trim board. I'm not sure I have the right size board to replace it, and may not have time to drive to town after I do the other work...so may not finish today.

RNG, hope you get gentle rain.

RNG, hope you are headed home soon.

Good Morning All.

Good Morning!!!! 37F @ 5:15 here in Chico, CA.Partly cloudy. Expect widespread areas of smoke and haze, reducing visibility at times. High 67F. Winds light and variable.

Smoke might be an issue in the house, Kyle, but it was built with a very tight envelope so maybe it'll be OK. Just have to see when I get there. Thanks for the offer!

Got a call from a police officer from Yuba City, CA who was visiting the house yesterday. He confirmed my tractor is OK, and so is the house. He told me he and other law enforcement are patrolling the area regularly, and that they're aware of the looting problem. More evacuation orders were lifted yesterday as well, a good sign that the open zone is getting closer.

Helped my host fix a thing or two on his car yesterday; felt good to get my hands dirty again.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

It looks like 11° for the low this morning. It was in the low 40's yesterday and the wind wasn't as bad as they said I would be. Today is going to be back in the 40' with sunny skies and a light wind.

The tool box looks like more work then I thought it would be. I still think I can make it useable, just more time working on it.
Didn't make it out to look for the big buck yesterday, going try again today.

Hope everyone has a good start to your week.
CWB.

Good morning! 45˚ heading only to 55˚ cloudy.

RCM Club
Went to the RCM (Radio Control Modelers) club play day in the grand ball room yesterday. They had the wives of the "car" group race around an indoor track. They had lots of wrecks. They had trains set up and and drones flying. Here is one of the RCM club member's drone video of the twice a year community garage sale we had last month. Do you see me?
Garage Sale October 218 - YouTube

I also got hold of the right person in the hiking club in charge of making new trails and upkeep of existing trails and I joined the group. I'll see how this goes and what type of equipment the Community Association has. I'm itching to cut and move wood, brush and rocks. There are a lot of rocks on this side of HWY 35. Sun city is expanding and 80 new acres are designated open space for walking trails. We are above the Edwards aquifer and 60% of the ground cannot be built on.

Wife has Spanish lessons this morning in the "International Club" while I wait for the dishwasher repairman.

Started about 37, up to 53 now, nice day today, but cold as heck by Thanksgiving. Church was nice, a pop style band played and sang, preacher gave a good word and we were out in 45 minutes.
Visited mom, Ellen’s parents and special needs sister, picked up groceries earlier, went to dinner, came home and put a bunch of stuff in the attic, basically a typical Sunday for us.
Starting prep for Thanksgiving dinner today. Going to do as much ahead of time as possible.
Nice new truck Rick!

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

36°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 41° today. Supposed to warm a bit through the week, sunny and 50s for Turkey Day.

Got some more of my old stuff sorted in the garage yesterday. Down to just a couple of boxes now. Sat in there with the door closed and a pair of milk house heaters running, and it was quite pleasant. We got some unexpected light rain later in the day, and it fell for most of the night.

Installed a new smoke detector in the spare room yesterday. Wife talked to her brother and asked if he wanted to have Thanksgiving Dinner with us. She told him he could spend the night if he wanted, but she's afraid he'll sneak a smoke or three while he's in there. I'm a bit wary of this arrangement. He lives with his current girlfriend, but has been looking to leave. I'd hate for him to get the impression that he can move in with us. We know he's going to try, as he has brought it up more than once in the past. With the boy gone now, ...

I was thinking about the mudslide possibility yesterday, RNG, when I heard a news story talking about the potential for some rain out there. I, too, hope any rain is gentle. No need to compound an already terrible situation.

Sorry about your E-muffin situation, Thomas. It probably won't help to note that my Wife has been making breakfast for me lately consisting of a fried egg, sausage patty, and cheese on an English muffin. It's delicious. Light holiday week traffic also means the roll to work is less-slow. Hope yours is the same.

The weather people on the daily fire briefing aren't freaking out about the rain, Paul, and the time profiles of the precipitation show it will go on for three days once it kicks in on Wednesday. Two good signs, I think, that it'll be slow and steady, but just like any weather anywhere, we'll just have to see. There's no chance of flooding at the house, as it sits on a promontory, and the driveway is hard compacted dirt and gravel on a rock base, so it'll remain passable as well. The roads farther up in the mountains could be in for trouble, though, depending on how the topography funnels the runoff. I just hope the firefighters up there dealing with it take it easy and are careful where they go.

Last night I was doing laundry in Chico when I noticed three firefighters waiting on theirs to finish. I struck up a conversation and learned they were from Clovis, down near Fresno, and that they had been at Yankee Hill protecting the hardware store when the Camp Fire broke out. They worked 36 hours straight that day, and up until a few days ago, were working alternating shifts of 24 hours on and 24 hours off. Recently they were deployed to Paradise where they are sifting through the rubble of burned buildings, helping the search and rescue people with recovery efforts. Now they work 12 hour shifts. I think they said they are on a three week assignment and will rotate back to Clovis at the end when they'll be replaced by three others on their team.

Earlier in the day I got a phone call from a policeman from Yuba City that was out at the house and had seen my note on the door. The house is still fine and nothing's been disturbed, more of a concern now because there have been some arrests for looting in the area. He also let me know that the tractor is unharmed as well.

Going into this Thanksgiving holiday I have more to be thankful for than ever, and a lot of that comes from the tireless efforts of those working to keep us all safe. Most of these folks are a long way from home, and I got the feeling that the thanks I passed along to them was a big part of the reason they keep doing what they do. If you have a chance to speak to or just wave to a first responder, let them know that you appreciate their efforts just as much as the folks that survived the Camp Fire.

BEF: I'll wave to the North from Aldie tomorrow.
Just finished figuring out where I was going, my step brother has a rental cottage on a farm estate in Aldie,VA and I finally tracked it
down on Google Maps. wow...nice gardens, hope to walk through those tomorrow.
former President Monroe's home, 1200 acres total.
Google Maps

this whole area is like Monopoly land to me, much of it minimum ten acre zoning, wineries everywhere, every house over the top.
not my cup of tea but I'll be happy to visit.

then off to the real world at my brother's home in Markham VA and then back home to a place
that has them all beat, because it's the only one with my bed in it. ;)
