Good Morning!!!! 37F @ 4:15AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. Expect widespread areas of smoke and haze, reducing visibility at times. High 68F. Winds light and variable.

Hope the power comes back on ASAP for those of you without. This time of year is no time to be without!

Got a phone call yesterday about noon from a firefighter that said he was standing on the front porch of the house. He reported that everything looked fine; vehicles were unhurt and there was no damage to the house. Plenty of burned grass and shrubbery around the house, though; all that decomposed granite ground cover did it's job well. I couldn't tell if my wood pile or tractor survived, but I'm hopeful. I should go out and buy a handful of lottery tickets. Then again, I've probably used up all my luck for some time to come.

I asked him to please let me know the next time he and his crew was in town, and I'd buy 'em all dinner!

Also got word that Norovirus had broken out in four of the local shelters established for fire victims. Now we're taking extra care, washing hands as soon as we get home and keeping them away from our faces while away.

Then there was a story of a shooting after a miles long high speed chase that started not far from my home in the evacuated area. It's not clear why the person was where he was, but when cornered he decided to make a last stand against well armed and trained sheriff's deputies. He won't make that mistake again.

Authorities are compiling an interactive map showing the locations of homes and businesses effected by the Camp Fire. Most of the data is focused on the town of Paradise, and the damage is almost complete. Many homes were also lost in Magalia and Concow as well...

I'm sure everyone has heard the old saying, "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait a few minutes, it'll change." After a low of 21 degrees 2 days ago, this morning the low is 40 going for a sunny high of 71.

RNG, always glad to hear good news.

I'm sure everyone has heard the old saying, "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait a few minutes, it'll change." .

We have a similar saying here in MI. With one change. "Wait a Minute and It will change". I think it's more like a second.

Good morning! 41˚ before sunrise but heading to the 70s with no clouds or wind.

Thanks for sharing the pics RNG.
Be on the lookout for radiant heat damage in the van and around the windows of your house. Check all exposed plastics and PVC. Also be prepared for smoke damage in everything. Of the houses that survived the Bastrop Fire the biggest complaint was the smoke smell could not be removed from the house.

It's 22° this morning with partly cloudy skies. Yesterday was in the low 50's and mostly sunny. Today will be back in the 50's and sunny with a15-20 mph wind. They still show a chance of snow showers for tomorrow.

Didn't get anything done yesterday after making the trip to town. Going to try to tarp the camper to day if the wind holds off this morning. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring.

RNG. It looks like all your hard work has payed off for you. I'm glad that you have a house to go back to. It must have been a big relief to see those pictures.

Hope everyone gets a good start to the weekend.

. . . . . . .Having read the new rules for growing my 4 pot plants, I cannot grow them outside. I gotta grow them in the house, so that will wait until I am fully retired. Another 30 years or so. . . . . . .

Have a good day all
From talking to my Canadian grower friends, I hear the old system of Medical was much more user friendly than the new "legal" weed. Tax dollars are the biggest concern now. Maybe you can get around it with an attached greenhouse? You guys do have crazy long days in the summertime. Shame to waste all that free light.

RNG, glad to hear your house is alright. I've heard of some sat pictures of the fire damaged ares, but not sure who has them. All I could find in a search is this Cal Fire map showing location of destroyed houses.

NOAA posted pictures of the 4 days after the hurricane, showing the progress of the recovery. This is Mexico Beach the day after. Maybe one of the alphabet agencies will do something like this for you guys.
