Good morning all, 32 with a high of 32 and a 100% chance of wintery mix. Just enough ice on things now to saw it is there. Just going to lay low today, as best I can.

Prayers sent, have a great day. Ed

I worked away from home yesterday and what a contrast to be back home today, away from all the traffic and the only queue is made up of sheep waiting for me to open the gate to the next field. The sun is a little subdued this morning, taking it's time to rise while hiding behind the branches of a distant oak tree that is both taller and wider. Gets everything in perspective, in more ways than one.

Drew, your new Massey looks great. May be better for muscle cramps too, with all the extra leg exercise climbing up to that elevated cab ;)

Talking of things at high altitude -

Even though we have a Horticulture club with wonderful organic gardens I'm still undecided if I want to join or do a backyard garden. The garden is on the other side of the neighborhood - about 6 miles away. I still have a few months to decide. The $30 a year pays for your water tap in the garden 20' raised bed and all the organic mulch and compost you can use.

6 miles sounds like a good opportunity for a bike ride. Only downside is going to be balancing a ladder on your handlebars - don't you think raising the beds 20' is a little excessive ?

Phil and Roy and others up North, some light and fluffy snow for you that all blows over onto your neighbor's lawn automatically.
A man can dream...

raining here, will rain all day and a lot of water headed North.

Rick, that PNK graphic was excellent, thank you, I printed it out. Sent two soil samples to Raleigh, very acidic soil, but much of what I grow likes that, and too much phosphorous and just enough potassium. So instead of triple 10 I'm using 34-0-0 this year. Something different for the fruit trees needed but that's the 15-0-15 I'm hunting, which is basically centipede grass fertilizer without the herbicide added. I need 50 pounds, not something you normally order online. But who knows, I wonder if Amazon sells fertilizer now...bet they do.
Actually I just remembered a friend's son works for a commercial/ag fertilizer company. Might give him a call.
Fertilizer is used for a lot of things including making bombs. Having more of it floating around in our transportation system doesn't make
sense to me but I bet an incredible amount of Miracle Grow is out there...

Seems to me the life of Mr. Brown has gotten a lot tougher. They raised the weight limits up a lot, and now the heavy stuff goes to Mr Brown and the lighter stuff to the woman in a clapped out Taurus with packages jammed to the ceiling who delivers my other packages. Nicely too.
I think the last driver said they now have to take up to 125 pounds. Used to be 70 and before that I think 35?

Depending on which weather report you check, our current temperature is somewhere between 27 and 31 degrees and will be going to 60 or 61 for a high today.:D I have an 8:30 a.m. appointment with my eye doctor, and of course they'll dilate one eye for sure and likely both eyes. Then my wife has a 1:30 p.m. appointment with her oncologist. Of course he has never been known to be earlier than one hour late, so I don't reckon we'll do much else today. At least it's supposed to be clear and sunny today.

Bird, I dread afternoon appointments at doctors's office. Guy yesterday came in 58 minutes after my time. Said he had an emergency
procedure next door. Maybe he did. Or maybe his emergency was just booking too many patients.
I always try to make first thing in the morning appointments but of course they aren't always available. And if it's a rush, you get tacked onto the back of the day's load and your 3 o'clock becomes 4:30 with a very tired doc. I had seven years of oncology doc appointments for my wife and none of them were on time. The surgeons were the worst. Oh if only I had a Kindle back then. It's what saves me now. The Good Lord did not bless me with a lot of patience. The Kindle is an effective workaround for me, thankfully I love to read.

For anything not an emergency and if no one comes out to talk to me, I walk after an hour late. Starting doing that about five years ago.
Always check in at desk before I leave and am pleasant. Just voting with my feet.

I had to tell my housecleaners they could no longer do my house last in the day. I live just down the street from the cleaning lady so she can do me first or last. Now I come first in the work day and the work is much better. Same price...

I turned on my phone to find a special offer, I can get a new Escalade for ONLY $983 a month! What a deal! Now back to reality.
38, going into the 55 range by night. Very heavy rain and wind. Going to lower my flag until the 50 mph stuff is gone. Sleet 40 miles away now but we won’t see it. Gotta put the garbage wheeler out and tie it to a pole with bungees.

All you guys with foul weather, take care. Everyone have a fine day, God bless.

34 and rain...the ice didn't find us yet. Should stay in the 30s all day.

Brought more firewood onto the porch yesterday since 1 to 2 more inches rain expected. I think the ground must be soggy all the way to the center of the earth below us. As I kid I used to daydream of digging a hole all the way to China. I think I got about a foot down before getting into trouble for digging up the yard. My friend and I were also going to dig a tunnel under the road to each other's house, but those plans were also put on hold.

All this talk of fertilizer made me think of Andre Viette. I listen to his gardening program on Saturday morning AM radio...he advertises for some organic fertilizers and pesticides. Ed, you ever go over to his place in Fishersville? Beautiful flowers and more.

Poured first cup of coffee. 27° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 34° with chance of 5" of snow. May have to do some snow plowing by tomorrow morning. Took car into town and got first layer of dirt washed off it yesterday. Put air in tires of both cars. Cannot understand why tire dealers cannot read the label on car door frame telling what tire pressure should be in tires. Both cars say 35 psi. But Discount and Walmart both put 30 psi in them. As soon as temperature starts getting lower. Low tire pressure warning goes off.
Put fresh supply bird feed in feeder. No other plans for the day.

Drew, I bought a Quickjack car lift a few week ago. UPS delivered it. 3 boxes each weighing close to 100 lbs. They seemed to weigh more than that. Driver was not happy about the weight. But was friendly and set them on the pallet forks for me. Moved the boxes to shop until I can assemble it. The shipping was free for the lift. I wonder what 300 lbs cost to ship UPS.

Good Morning All.

Good plan on walking. My doctor visit last week was a hour late. I was first patient. But I cut the DR some slack this time. They shut the local freeway down because of a deadly accident. That was westbound. But all the gaulkers going eastbound had traffic backed up over 10 miles. He was not in a very good mood when he got to me.
I need to bring some headphones along to listen to some of my Audible books.

I, too, prefer the earliest appointment possible. My wife's appointments are usually in the morning. In fact, this appointment was originally scheduled for 9:30 a.m. a week ago today, but the day before, they called to change it for reasons unknown. And I usually carry one of my Patrick McManus books to read at this doctor's office.

And the last time I had an appointment with my cardiologist, I got there about 30 minutes early; no one in the waiting room at all, and I saw no one anywhere except the nurse sitting at her desk. 10 minutes after my appointment time, she got up and called me to one of the examining rooms, had me step on the scales, took my blood pressure, asked if anything had changed since my last visit, then left the room and shut the door. That was not the most comfortable chair I ever sat in, so after an hour, I got up, walked right by that nurse without saying a thing, and left. That was on June 7, so it's been more than 5 months and I haven't heard from them. The pharmacy did contact them, supposedly, for authorization to refill a prescription.:D

6 now and going to 28F. Wind E 8 mph. Sun and cloud mix. Barometer is falling. Snow tomorrow.

I gotta go back into town today. Get some packages the courier wouldn't deliver to the house. We only have two couriers that deliver to the house. One has the UPS contract and the other one is Fed-Ex.

Not too much planned for today other than the town run.

re; Dr.s that are late for appointments. My Dr. was over 2 hours late for a morning appointment with me. I asked her what the point was of making an appointment if she wasn't going to keep it. I asked why she was late, she lived 5 minutes from the office and yet I could keep the appointment and I lived over 3 hours from said office. She was never late for me again. Remember this Dr. I had since 1965.

I sure am looking forward to the day the powers that be let RNG go back home.

Have a safe day all

Good morning! 29˚ clear skies, no wind, heavy frost, turkeys playing chase on the pretty white golf corse.

Eric I don't know why they make them so high. ??

Today November 15th is the first Official day that you can star putting up you holiday decorations. There is also an official take down day so we don't have any of those houses that still have Christmas lights in July. The previous owners left a star in the attic and a note about it being part of the neighborhood decorations, I'll have to read the note again and see what that is about.

I bought some paint remover to redo a black bench and now my wife is having second thoughts, might need to put that project on hold.

RNG hope today is the day you are allowed back to your house. The new motorcycle - when you combine a drone and a motorcycle (from another thread) Video: Cops on flying bikes to patrol Dubai by 22

Ron - Please post (either here or in another thread) about your set up and use of that lift. It sounds VERY interesting.

My son has one to work on his Mustangs. They set so low he cannot do anything under them without raising them. It will be at least 3 weeks before I even think about unpacking them.
The best price I found was at Costco.
Will report back when I get it assembled.

raining and raining but having a good morning getting things done.
Finally tracked down a carpenter and he's coming out next Monday for a variety of projects.
Best news is gym at local community college said they would be delighted to take my old but unused...Bowflex gym out of my house and back to their gym. If only I had made this call four years ago, sigh. Takes three strong men to get it out of second floor without tearing up sheetrock, plus there is a chair lift to compete with. Never should have moved it here from PA.

To me, reasonable and professional practice would suggest talking to the waiting patient if the appointments are running more than half an hour behind. Just taking the time to walk out and talk to the patients shows someone cares. When they do nothing and act like not my department, which seems to be normal, frustration mounts. Particularly if the patient is in serious pain and needs help now, not in two hours.
We are reduced to cattle. I'm stuck in my local hospital chain, very few viable medical alternatives locally.
The problem is when the whole hospital chain is unenlightened and then we are all cattle as routine.

Ron, coastal hay has very little weed seeds in it. Also nicely sweet smelling. Will use for mulch in vegetable garden where plastic is not used.
Wheat straw last year was a disaster. I used coastal hay in PA and it worked well, just till it in at end of year. I need to get more organic material into the sandy soil here so this helps. Am told the best coastal hay is harvested close to the ocean, salt air helping to sterilize the plant in some way.
Coastal hay on top and mushroom soil added on the bottom. The latter not being available here, would do wonders to enrich the sandy soil.

Drew, wheat straw here can be weed free (from good farmers) or full of weeds (from struggling farmer that cut corners and ended up with weeds in their crop). When we get straw, we get it from the good farmers and don't have a bunch of weeds.
