Good morning!!!!

Randy, condolences. What a beautiful place of rest for Lynne. Hope you and your daughter had some good reminisces. As time goes by, I find myself remembering the funny/quirky things my deceased brother did. His funeral procession was 2 miles long.

Ed, prayers for you all, especially the "boy". I know it can be tough for all. Prayers for patience and well being.

Roy, hope your crud gets better. For me, the worst part is the lack of sleep.

Larro, hope your back feels better.

I'm off today. We have a lot of downed branches after the storm. I might go start some burn piles to get rid of them. My young knight is sick with some fever and the Doc believes it is a virus, but he has not thrown up yet. Just has no hunger.

Had my coffee. Temp is a chilly (for us) 45F. (I can hear y'all chuckling). Not a cloud in the sky, no breeze.

Eric, maybe you can dig some more in your spare time, seeing as the odds are in your favor. :)

Have a blessed day all.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 6:30AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 78F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

I can't count the number of times I've put something away in a "safe" place where I would be sure to find it again, and you know what happens when I go lookin' for it...:confused2:

I agree, I don't know how some people ever got their driver's license in the first place. Makes me think there should be an actual on-the-road driving test at every license renewal, and you go back to driving school if you flunk. I bet there would be a tremendous shortage of driving school teachers!

The best projects, no matter how small, Ed, are those that are for or help the wife. Just make sure she knows the lathe or mill played a part so that next time you need a new piece of tooling, she's all for it.

When the inspector for the insurance company came earlier this year, he asked if I'd had the water heater replaced. Not since I've had it, and it was built in '07, so the tank is probably 11 years old. He said that the insurance company likes to seem them replaced every ten years. Probably because the most common failure mode is the tank leaking, and the water can cause a lot of damage, damage that insurance companies end up paying for. The heater here ran for several years without the benefit of a water softener, and the water is very hard. I've never drained it, so it's probably got tons of sediment in it. It's propane fired, and every time the burner lights, I hear crackling and popping which is probably cavitation caused by the sediment insulating the metal so it gets very hot and then the water comes in and causes a micro steam explosion. So I should probably replace the tank, but since it's in the garage, if it does leak nothing will be damaged unless the water runs under the wall and into the master bedroom or kitching. Thinking outloud, the kitchen has porcelin tile laid directly on the slab, so it'll probably be OK, but the cabinets are sitting on the slab and might be damaged. There's laminate flooring in the bedroom, but it sits on a moisture barrier that I was careful to extend up under the baseboard, so it should be OK. After writing this, now I'm thinking I should replace that water heater and save myself some grief. I'm told it takes a building permit. Is that the case where you live?

BTW, lots of people say "hot water heater". Isn't that a little redundant? Wouldn't it be more accurate to say "cold water heater"? :confused2: Or if you're lazy like me, just "water heater" will do...

Mixed results on yesterday's van drive into town. I managed to sus out the wiring for the Neutral Position Switch problem, and it appears to work since it didn't throw the P1101 error code. And the steering wheel shake is gone after I had the tires balanced. But it still runs into the rev lmiiter at about 67 mph in 4th gear. This time I had the code reader hooked up, and it reported that the van was doing 111 MPH, so there's some kind of problem with the way the computer in the van is sensing the speed. More homework to do there. I'd hoped to swap out the coolant level sensor controller for a known good one, but when I dropped by the mechanic's place at 4:30PM it was buttoned up tighter than a drum and no one was around. He didn't answer text messages all day, either, so he's probably dealing with another one of his family or business emergencies. :banghead: There was also a new error code thrown, a P0505, which is something to do with the idle air control valve. More homework...

Stayed busy yesterday and had a nice visit with my daughter. I’m taking the days as they come and looking forward,
“ ...yesterday's over my shoulder
So I can't look back for too long
There's just too much to see waiting in front of me...” (Jimmy Buffett)

Have a good day guys, God bless.

Murphy's Law of Lost Things #137 states that any "missing / lost" item will magically appear within minutes of you returning from buying its replacement. The more expensive the item ..... the faster it appears.

Of course your ins company wants you to replace your water heater, so they dont have to pay... But are they paying for the replacement? I have never heard of an insurance co. Doing a home inspection and telling you to replace stuff. They usually use home age as part of their pricing, older homes more likely to have issues. If you replace it, will they drop their rates?

37°F and some rather thick fog this morning, going up to 55° today. Wet pavement was contributing to so many accidents this morning that even the local traffic reporters were criticizing some people's poor driving habits.

Wife bought a new carpet cleaner today, and used it in the boy's old bedroom first. Now, she's doing the rest of the basement. We haven't had carpet in there for years. She always wanted vinyl flooring down there as it's easier to clean and helps with her allergy issues. When we did the remodel, carpet was just a whole lot cheaper that replacing the old vinyl. I prefer carpet anyway. Just nicer to walk on with socks or bare feet.

Completed our voter ballots last night.. It is interesting how the paragraph on the ballot represents the actual prop. We read our voter pamphlet and discuss issues, then mark our ballots. Daughter that lives with us joined us last night.

Farmer talked to my wife yesterday, over 2" of rain in the last week, very nice.

But you will be paying the deductible and the cost of a new cold water heater.

In Texas code makes it necessary for a tray that drains to the outside to be under the heater. The attic is a popular place to put the water heaters.
My brother replaced his after 10 years and it was in the attic of his 2 story house.

My gas water heater is in the garage with drain pan and drain that goes through the wall to the side yard.

Get a water leak detector for piece of mind. And when you do replace it put a "water heater pan" under it. In Fairfax County, Virginia the pans are required by code (or so I was told for the last two installs).

67°F and no rain.
Didn’t get to mowing yesterday but this morning. What I did get done yesterday was info for potential bulk diesel delivery submitted. Might find out about it today.
Sears Tech coming this afternoon for broken shelf clips in freezer.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

RNG, there are some tuning aftermarket companies that make tune-able engine control modules. Here is one, pricey for sure. Maybe you could find a cheaper alternative.

Speaking of tailgating, saw a bumper sticker during lunch "Do you follow Jesus this close?"
I got a chuckle. Older lady with a cane got out of the car. I told her I liked the sticker, and she thanked me.

While eating lunch, thought the guy at the next table was someone i knew, and it was. We worked together almost 20 yrs ago.

Dads first water heater lasted almost 50 yrs. I replace when they leak, never had a bad leak. Mines in basement on concrete floor. 10 yrs is probably good for todays units. I guess it depends on how much damage it can do. I did put a pan with drain under upstairs geo unit, just in case.

I think haircuts are a colossal waste of money.
Bill, I'll tell my barber that when I see him at 8am. Will let you know his opinion...;)

Actually am having a problem with him. He keeps jabbing me with the electric clippers, at least one ouch
per visit. I think he's losing it...was fine for three years, now every visit his clippers bite me. He needs to be more gentle and I'm
not sure he has the coordination any more to do so.

I've been here before...had a barber for over 50 years, same guy since I was age 2, who finally could not cut hair anymore. He wouldn't hurt me, he just got lost half way through the haircut and forgot where he was. Always gave a nice haircut too, once he completed it. Did his best with dementia, then retired, passed away two years later. So now I have another senior barber with what I'm wondering is the same issue.
Only one barber, and changing barbers is always a challenge. Plus he has great tractor magazines in his waiting room.
Going to see how I can delicately raise the issue of go gentle with those electric clippers please...

There is an oldtimer I know who is too far gone to cut hair anymore. He still goes into his shop lots of days, but I never see any customers.

As for me, the last haircut I paid for was in late October, 1983. Uncle Sugar insisted I have it before we parted ways. I've cut it myself since then. In the old days when three ladies told me it was looking good, I knew it was time for a haircut. Now I have to use other indicators.

I don't know about everywhere in Texas, but a mobile home we bought new some years ago had that drain. But it also had a thick layer of insulation around the tank, that insulation extended down into the drain pan, so when the water heater started leaking, we didn't know it until the floor rotted.

And now the house we're in has a concrete slab foundation with the water heater in a little closet in the hall; no way to run a drain under it to the outside. But code requires another system; a pan under the water heater, with a moisture sensor in it, wires going up to a control box mounted on the wall, then to the water inlet at the top with a valve that will shut off the water if the sensor in the pan gets wet. It supposedly recycles that valve once a month, but since I can't say that I really trust it, I cycle it myself occasionally.

Now since I had a water heater leak in that mobile home, and I replaced a leaking water heater in a daughter's mobile home once, and I helped a neighbor/friend replace a leaking water heater in their home, I checked the age of the water heater in this house, and even though it was not leaking, it was 16 years old when I had it replaced in 2015.

Got the branches and small twigs burned....fire is about done. Good thing as wind is picking up, but grass is wet and very green.

Got the small chain saw out. Hasn't been ran for almost a year. All the bar oil has leaked out into it's case. Put some fresh gas and oil in it. Got it out to the fire and could not get it to start. My arm wore out after about 5 attempts of 10 pulls each...Got back to barn and a sniff of ether and she fired up and ran fine. Got the 3 big branches cut that were sticking out of the fire's perimeter. Last year, I had to take the chain's bar oiler pump apart and get it going again. It could probably use a new one, since the old one is plastic, but it is still working right now.

Put some gas in the spare old Impala that we use to pick up the kids from the bus. 8 gallons should last through the winter.

Picked some serrano peppers from the last thing that's producing in the garden. We spread out some black eyed pea seeds a few weeks ago...Now about 6-8" tall. Not sure if they'll produce, but I will till them in if they don't. I will send some peppers to some friends that moved to Ohio last January. They can buy some vine ripened tomatoes, garlic and onions to make some homemade hot sauce.
