Good morning all, 62 going to 66 with a 30-90% chance of showers then heavy rain. Neighbor got a new liner put in his in ground pool. The company ran 2 shop vacs all night drawing a suction so the liner stayed close to the sides with no wrinkles. Did not bother us as it is on the other end of the house. Got some little jobs done around the house, used the metal lathe to turn down a plastic stopper so I could fit it in an old gallon jug. and put a lamp kit into it for the wife. No plans for today yet but will get into something.

Have a great day, Prayers sent. Ed

Sunny and calm this morning, however nature is surprisingly quiet. I think the birds must be waiting for the workers to take a break as it's hard for them to compete with the sound of the reversing dump truck beeps and other demolition noises. At least I won't feel so bad about disturbing the piece myself with a bit of metal bashing today.

I live close by what was once a Roman town. The locals seem to have got over their departure without shedding too many tears nowadays. People are still fascinated by that era though, especially when objects from that distant past keep on turning up. Archaeological remains discovered that shed new light on Roman Whitchurch - Shropshire Council Newsroom
Each time I dig a hole I have a chance of finding a Roman artefact too (ok, I admit it's only a slim chance, but much better odds than the new-tractor-for-all lottery :) ).
A few years ago I found a food container for a Roman delicacy when I was digging a deep hole for a fence straining post. The container was from a slightly later era, so not exactly a museum piece - it was an empty sardine can from the last century.

PJ - Hope the novelty of the house to yourselves didn't make it too hard to get up for work today ;)

Randy, hard to believe a whole year has gone by. That looks a beautiful place to share memories with your daughter.

good morning all. Still warm out, in 60's, .08 rain and more coming in but not much.
Today am headed to supermarket and then running errands.
Prayers for Toppop and his daughter, for healing and happiness.

69 going to 73 and rain expected, maybe storms.

Ed, glad you're getting some time on the lathe.

PJ, I bet that room never looked so good. :)

David, you ever try to get any sugar from your sugar cane? Glad your mowing worked out.

Yesterday's winds started the maple leaf fall in a big way. I think the colors look better on the ground this year than on the tree. I used to rake for hours to make a big pile for the boys to jump in when they were little. Now I drive over them with the old mower and the mulch cap on the deck. I have to mow them several times each fall before they accumulate too much. Makes very fine mulch, so just leave it on the yard. Today should be a good day...humid and moist, not too wet, windy enough to blow the dust away.

60 right now with wind and rain. Going to be an inside kind of day. We have rain in the forecast 5 out of the next 6 days. One of the wettest years for us. My back yard is usually dry and looks like a swamp.

46 degrees with a little breeze this morning, but going for a sunny 72 degrees later. I've got a 7 a.m. appointment with one of my eye doctors. I just can't get accustomed to the modern times. This ONE doctor has more than 50 employees (54 I think) who operate all the machinery, etc. to do the examining and testing, as I go from one room to another and finally to a little room where the doctor comes in, shakes hands, takes a quick look at my eyes, tells me if anything else is needed, and he's gone. I don't think he's ever stayed in the room a full minute.

35 and going to a high of 37F. Wind N 9 gusting to 17 mph. Periods of snow mixed with rain.

I'm real glad I got the North Bay trip out of the way yesterday. Only one 'incident' on the way home. I usually set my cruise control about 12 kms over the speed limit (100), that would be about 69-70 mph. I come up on a minivan that is only doing the limit, so I try to go around him. At 112 all of a sudden he is trying to pass me on the right. So I speed up. He chickens out at 140 kms/hr, 88 mph. My 'new to me van' was as smooth as silk, so there is that to be said.
Ya, I know. I should have just got in behind him. I put up with that bs all summer long in the big truck, I will NOT put up with it when I know I have a vehicle that is capable of doing over 105 km/hr. (65 mph).

Today, take stepson and DIL to get their hair cut/done. Then some more local shopping. I think haircuts are a colossal waste of money. My barber died 5 years ago. That was the last time I got my hair cut. At 72 years old I may have a little more face to wash, but at least I have hair and more of it than either my Grandfather nor my Dad did at the same age.

Have a good day all

Bill, I'll tell my barber that when I see him at 8am. Will let you know his opinion...;)

Actually am having a problem with him. He keeps jabbing me with the electric clippers, at least one ouch
per visit. I think he's losing it...was fine for three years, now every visit his clippers bite me. He needs to be more gentle and I'm
not sure he has the coordination any more to do so.

I've been here before...had a barber for over 50 years, same guy since I was age 2, who finally could not cut hair anymore. He wouldn't hurt me, he just got lost half way through the haircut and forgot where he was. Always gave a nice haircut too, once he completed it. Did his best with dementia, then retired, passed away two years later. So now I have another senior barber with what I'm wondering is the same issue.
Only one barber, and changing barbers is always a challenge. Plus he has great tractor magazines in his waiting room.
Going to see how I can delicately raise the issue of go gentle with those electric clippers please...

I think we've all had people speed up when you are passing them, often a heart pounding decision of go or no go, not knowing what
is going on in the mind of the other car. Sometimes I think passing cars "wake up" some folks to actually look at their speedometer and see how slow they were driving while yakking with a passenger in the front seat, etc. Now all pro drivers know you almost always take your foot off the pedal when someone is passing, give them more room to safely pass. If they don't make it, often a case they will take you with them, bouncing around between concrete walls on the interstate. But Martha never drove a truck and for sure you wonder if she ever took driver training.

I think that all the time here, did everyone fail driver training? Why is a stop sign not a stop sign, why do you not understand keep right except to pass and why do you not use your turn signals? And while you're at it, stop tailgating me please.
Bill, glad you successfully got around Martha. Too bad she has six sisters.
