Mecuricome didn't sting, Merthiolate did...not sure about Iodine...IIRC, both Mecuricome and Merthiolate were red in color. I have seen either since the 1960's.

That's right Roy. It was the Merthiolate that stung because it had alcohol in it.

I thought TBN was set up so that you got a notification email only when a new post was made since the last time you were on TBN, and only one email gets sent. It resets once you go back and read posts again. I was on and off TBN a couple times yesterday, and got a couple email notifications as a result. No PMs about anything. I feel left out!

No Monkey Blood, Don, but I sure remember mom putting Iodine on a deep cut on my chin when I was little. Screamed my head off. I think she switched to Mecuricome shortly after that, and when Bactine came around, started using that instead. Turns out Mecuricome is still around, but these days it's made with out mercury.

I can hear a mountain lion growling in the meadow above the house, probably hoping to catch one of the neighbor's goats or sheep...

Watching "Leave it to Beaver" and Eddie Haskel made a comment: "She is as ugly as the face on the iodine bottle."

I tried to find the face but have failed, unless it is just the skull and cross bones he was referring to. I did learn that there was Iodine and Mecuricome. Do you remember which one stung? We always called it "Monkeyblood" but I'm reading only people in the south called it "Monkeyblood", Is that correct? Did anyone else call it "Monkey Blood"?
Used on me as a kid, but never heard it called monkeybood...but a good nickname.

I was waiting on a phone call from the bumper guy yesterday, so was answering the phone. Usually I just let it go to voicemail, as almost all my calls are either somebody selling something or swindles. So I was laying on my back under the van dash yesterday and the phone rang. Got up and answered by the third ring, but it was some lady wanting to sell me something. I politely requested she put me on the "don't call" list and hung up. Got back under the dash and the phone rings again. Got to it after two and a half rings. Must be getting better at it. It was the SAME LADY! I asked if she hadn't heard me request the don't call list, and she told me she just wanted to verify that this other number was mine, also.:confused2: An hour later that phone rings again, but this time I was standing right next to it. It was a robocall telling me that my Apple iCloud account had been compromised, and to push 1 for assistance. I know that Apple NEVER calls with that kind of info, so I hung up. A little after that I got a text message from the bumper guy that the van bumpers will ship Monday, so I stopped answering phone calls. The Apple scammer tried twice more, and this time I got a recorded copy of the spiel, including a call back number. When I googled that, I confirmed it was a known scam. Be careful out there, gang. There are lots of people that will steal you blind just as close as the Internet or your telephone.
The latest calls that I have been getting are Caller ID'ed as local phone numbers. But when checked on Google or call back. Find they are not working phone numbers. I block all calls that leave no voice mail. Unless they are in my contact list. Blocking the above calls does not work. Because they are calling from some other number.
Is there a way to check actual phone number?

Good morning to all! Low of 42 this morning, sun started rising, then all at once got real foggy. It's burning off slowly over the last hour. It was strange for us, haven't seen fog for the last couple of years.

New forecast is now calling for a good chance of rain next week, everyday starting on Tuesday. Just in time to mess with the Albq. International Balloon Fiesta.

Drew, hope your trip continues to be enjoyable and that you don't have to eat too many 'hotel breakfasts' :D

Didn't get any emails or spam. No weird calls...guess I'm lucky. Got the regular monthly email from TBN.

Got a bit of painting done yesterday, but less than I expected to get done. Back at it today, especially since they are forecasting rain next week.

Everyone have a great weekend! Prayers sent for all.

killing a little time waiting for lunch, sitting in Mcdonalds parking lot at one of the few lights in my home town, watching the passing scene. Went to the lumberyard of my MIL's family, I believe it's the oldest operating lumberyard in the US. They are hanging on by their teeth, though this summer was strong. Gave family members a hug, tracked down where they are setting up the tent for the dinner afterwards, which I'm not going to. Gave my ex a hug, which she really appreciated, as did her husband.

This is a very nice area, too bad I can't afford to live here except in a two bedroom townhouse. Real estate starts in the 400k range, and just goes up up up. Too much for me.

The calls I got came from a spoofed number, in all cases from the real Apple Support 800 number. The dead give away is that the scammer's voicemail gave a different phone number, in the 213 Los Angeles area code, as a call back number.

I've had my own phone number used as a spoofed number, and never quite convinced one poor lady that called me that I wasn't the phone spammer.

I really don't know how spoofing phone numbers works, but I'm sure google could unearth an answer...

New forecast is now calling for a good chance of rain next week, everyday starting on Tuesday. Just in time to mess with the Albq. International Balloon Fiesta.

The remnants of a Pacific typhoon will be hitting the Los Angeles area on Monday, and it'll track through the southwest in the following days. Storms like that are not unusual. Many years ago, one caught a friend and I two thirds of the way down the Baja peninsula on our motorcycles. Our motel rooms flooded, and we were stopped twice in our attempts to get home by flooded roads. We rode through water a foot deep many times on that trip, one I would just as soon forget. But the point is that tropical storms like that are common in August and September, and the Balloon Festival is notorious for horrendous ballon accidents as a result. Maybe that's why so many people attend, who see it as a blood sport? What a horrible thought, but they keep having it the same time of year.

74°F and .26 inches rain.
More area bushogged yesterday. Body sore from so much twisting around backing up. Scared up 2 good sized wild pigs in process. Must have gotten close to their place. Sure would like to get them to permanently relocate, but not hopeful as that area is a small gulch I’ll never get into, too steep, bottom too wet. Their current rooting more destructive than in past. ☹️

Prayers for all
Be safe
have a great day

Well Drew, a Christian faith means they follow the teachings of Christ. Unfortunately the term Christian has been watered down to be an almost meaningless term. Having spent a lot of time in bible study, what you describe of doing good to all, regardless of how they treat you is part of it (and maybe the hardest part), but there's more. TBN and GM is not the place to discuss.

Went to HS football game last night. We got beat good. Won't be a state champ run this yr. My first game since last yr when my back went out. After sitting in those bleachers last yr I could hardly walk, and ended up in the hospital 3 days on morphine because of the back pain. That's when they also discovered another issue, which led to my surgery last fall. Glad I'm doing much better now.

Dug the rest of my potatoes this morning. Hosed them off, and got them drying with a fan.

Got to find a new place to buy wood pellets, since the old place went out of business (owner died). Called one, they wont get the brand i want till mid oct, at $279 ton. I said ouch, thank you very much.

Maybe get some from tractor supply. I used to get theirs, they were ok.

Need to mow, still very wet.

TBN, or the app, has been acting differently the last couple weeks. I have my settings to go to last unread post, and it now takes me to the last page, skipping over pages of unread posts. At first i thought it was an App update, but i checked and it wasn't. So must be a server update that isn't working correctly.

/ Good morning!!!! #82,453
The last time my I-phone updated it said TBN app is out of date and no update available. The last time my laptop updated, google crome just shuts down an I have to bring it back up but only on TBN. :confused3: Ed

coffee thankfully just made in the lobby, filled up my traveler mug.
I think I should have brought warmer clothes...as I turn the heat up in the room.
Slept like a rock last night, hotel was quiet, wedding guests I assume arrive today.
I found if I put some quiet piano medlies on Spotify on the laptop, it blocked out much of the odd noises.

While in town get a nasty self inflicted grocery cart scratch on the new truck.
oh dear...that must have made you grind your teeth. Like I did when I put an inch long scratch in my rear quarter panel of my brand new truck lifting a beach chair into the bed.
You look at it and think I can't believe I just did that.

Having lunch today with my next older brother, the accountant in my old home town. And then a SRO event for the memorial of my first MIL later in the afternoon. My father was President of the school board for many years, and this lady was VP; our families have known each other since the 50's, all of our family's kids grew up with theirs. It will be nice to meet some of my ex's brothers who I haven't seen in many years. We all get along fine. Did before I married their sister and did afterwards too. This will be a gathering of what is known in many places as the Old Guard. Most of the members of their family, back to 1780, are "birthright Quakers" meaning they were born into families with Quaker parents and they too joined the church, which we call a Meeting. A Meeting of Friends. Sounds like Good Morning, huh? ;)

For those who have never gone to a Quaker memorial service, there are no clergy, nothing that seems organized. But then after five or ten minutes of quiet reflection or prayer, folks start to talk about the deceased, talking of memories and good times, bad times. The memorial is all about the person,
since our Faith while Protestant/Christian does not place a lot of emphasis on sin or salvation. It's all about how you live your life, and that's what folks talk about during a memorial, how that person lived their life.
And in this case, all the good done by that person. Quakers aren't waiting for Heaven. Heaven is all around us. No more talk about religion, but just showing some context for my day. I really miss my Meeting after five years now, will likely be a big part of where I go next.

Faith can be like a good battery charger. Brings you back to where you need to be, gets you prepared for the job ahead, and the maintainer/desulphator gets rid of those lingering worries. Muhammad is starting a new Friendlier Politics/all other it appears. These comments belong there, sorry.

Otherwise Good Morning. Hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks for sharing that, Drew. Informative

/ Good morning!!!! #82,455
I think I'm going to not talk about faith any more, thanks.
Mainly because I agree it is inappropriate here.

the memorial was packed, I spoke on the deceased's huge heart, which she had and her impact on local public education and land preservation. My family's farm went into permanent preservation after a little browbeating by this very same nice lady. She was 96 so there were a lot of ancient folks there, a sea of white hair. I admit one of the best parts for me was telling the grandchildren of the hometown doctor who delivered me that their grandfather brought me into this world. I said hi to quite a few folks and then beat it out before the parking lot became a zoo.

Drew, don't stop on account of me. I dont mind.

GM on TBN is like Cheers, just a good place to come and get along with others, even if we have differences.

Got my yard mowed except for along creek, but not the field. Pulled the trailer around the barn to unhook this morning, left ruts. Ground really soft. Even the lawn mower left some tracks.

Then went out to eat tonight at a local chain sports bar.

Ellen and I went to a local produce type place and bought mums, straw bales, pansies, pumpkins, gourds, etc... Then we went to my grandson’s soccer game, then went to Home Depot and bought lumber to rebuild above ground planter boxes. We then rebuilt them, planted everything, pulled up all the cherry tomatoes, couldn’t even give away the 5-6 quarts a day we were picking, and still had dozens rotting. Hauled away all the old lumber and junk. Now after a shower and cup of coffee, I’m resting!

Good evening all. 64F for the start, overcast, light east wind. Wind was light to moderate, overcast stayed for most of the day with some light showers, and a high of 75F. Drove to Bonham for a bike ride, 67 miles in 4:17 moving time, 5:11 overall. Got home 3:30, too hyped for a nap, ready for 1 now :)
Prayers for all.
