Every one is so polite around here I wouldn't get to use an air horn. We have a emergency siren on top of there hill in the neighborhood and it is tested the first Saturday of the month at 11:00 A.M. This is the first place I have ever lived that had a audible alert. Does anyone else have an emergency alert siren they can hear at their house? We are about 30 minutes from Jarrell Texas where they had that terrible tornado in 1997 - 260 mph winds 27 people died. I'll have to inquire if that is when we got the alert sirens.

The town closest to where I grew up had a "siren" you could hear for almost 5 miles. Other than tornadoes or big fires, it went off at 12 noon and 6 pm, Monday thru Friday. It was on a high pole at the firehouse.

10 calves in 11 days is a nice stress reliever.
for you Farmer or the Mama Cows?
Sounds like a lot to take care of.

Really bad news for NC chicken farmers. Millions of chickens drowned. Maybe for once the price of chicken will go up, though I just bought
boneless breasts for 1.79

Satellite pictures being taken of pollution washed into sea by hurricane, visible from outer space...
Animal poop, human wastewater, farming chemicals and lawn chemicals. Probably some industrial chemicals too.
Right now the hog lagoons are apparently the focus of attention, and the report has sounded of "breaches".
That isn't likely to be good.

What marvelous news that the Vanagon is warming up its tires.
Ready for the Blues Bros. to ride in their Bluemobile.

Just got back from Costco. Had not been in a while so I left $700 there for them to restock the shelves, I think that is a record for me.

LS, glad your noise was not 3 Amish women and a Avon lady. Prayers for your Knee.

Don, Scottsville Va had a siren that went off at noon until a Vietnam vet fresh home jumped through a store front window. Town council stopped the siren.

Have a good evening, Prayers sent. Ed

You mean I could have had a winery going all these years? Don't tell my wife. LOL

Must be a look alike. Obviously more research needed on my part. Whatever I have is a choker and creeper.
I have an Asian vine here that is really bad. It was brought in by some nursery, and now it's playing havoc with timber lands. I have a spot of it at each downspout around the house. I dig it up, but it always comes back. Across the road in my cousin's pines, it's taking over. No real way to kill it other than spaying. And that would damage the timber, not to mention the cost.

Those hog waste holding ponds are a real danger. But if there is flooding in coal country, you get ash pond breaches. There are counties in Ky that haven't been able to drink their water for the last 10-12 years because of flooding from a tropical storm.

Good evening. At 1905 it's raining {in Blountstown where the weather station is, not at the Larro Ranchero}, 79F with 79% humidity. We got up to 93F this morning, according to the car thermometer. {I'm sure it got hotter later} Margie and I did a quick trip to Marianna this morning. Had to do some money shuffling, then lunch at the Oaks and a run through of Big Lots and Walmart. Had a nice nap this afternoon, un-stuffed peppers for supper, now I'm headed out for a couple three hours of walking. Most nights when I'm not working or camping, I try to get in a few miles. Too darn hot to walk in the daytime.

Ed, happy belated birthday. You share it with my Sister. She is 63 and retired now. The BIL and I are the only ones still working around here.

Now that you all mention it, i guess they stopped sounding our fire siren, because i havent heard it lately.

Out where I am I can only hear the airport siren, and that’s about twice a year. Once in a great while I hear one from town. At the old house I was less than a mile from the siren of one station and it woke me up more than I care to remember.

My closest neighbor is going to feed our livestock while I'm away at my Trail Ride in the Hill Country for next week. All good.

I asked him about refilling my hummingbird feeder ....... and he gave me "the side eye". Oh well ..... had to ask. They're my smallest livestock.

Good evening all. 74F this morning, partly cloudy, calm wind. Wind got frisky today, sky Cleared off until late afternoon, then clouds started to build in a hurry, high temp of 91F. Last day in the 90's for a while, only 2 day in the 80's for the 10 day forecast. Today started with woodpile, resplitting, and stacking and putting tarp over it. Most of the wood is now ready for winter, just don't think I have enough. Got the string trimming done. Played in the Couples Golf tournament this afternoon, our team scored 4th again :)
We have a siren on the golf course, tested once a month, hear good outside, not as well inside.
Prayers for all.

We live far enough out no sirens to hear only the birds chirping or deer blowing

Can't you load up a tank of glyphosate and spot spray, Larro? Even better, you probably have access to even stronger stuff than what they let us bone heads have in Kalifornia...

When I was growing up, there were sirens all over town, and they all went off at noon every day. If they went off at any other time, it meant we should duck'n'cover, and kiss our butts goodbye 'cause the Ruskies had launched a preemptive nuclear attack and it was the end of the world as we knew it. That was drilled into us from a very early age, both at home and at school. I guess it helps explain why I have trust issues, and why I regard every day as icing on the cake!

Good morning all. A little bit of blue showing where the clouds that are racing across the sky can't quite keep up with one another. We had a really good soaking for most of the day yesterday, today someone promised only showers.

We used to live close to a large chemical manufacturing plant. Rarely thought about it because it was out of sight further down the hill, except at times such as when the washing came off the line with blue spots, or when they sent round the annual letter to warn that if you enjoy breathing, get inside fast when you hear the siren

I well remember those nuclear warnings. Living 5 miles from the centre of a big city that was almost certain to be targeted made it strangely easy to come to terms that one day there may be no tomorrow. Now it's likely to simply be old age that makes that come true, so lets all enjoy a few more days of fun first. I'm ready for another slice of that cake RNG

Good morning all, 68 going to 80 with a 30% chance of showers, 20% chance of T-storms. Today is the last day of 80's in the 10 day for us. looks like fall is here. Need to run to the pool place and get the closing chemicals and get the pool closed. Already have a few leaves in it and more on the way.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

68 headed to 84. A few showers nearby that might brush us.

A rare morning with almost no dew outside. Yesterday it was so heavy and with some fog, that I decided to take advantage of it and wash the truck before sunrise. I don't wash it often, and it seems to grow bigger each time. It looked so good later in the morning, I decided to wax it for the first time...got about 2/3 done and decided to save some for another day. :) Then did a couple more hours of mowing.

Congrats on the calves, farmer.

Rick, refilling the hummingbird feeders is easy. I hope you'll try your friend again, they depend on you now. All of our adult males migrated last month, but we still have lots of females and immatures.

There are sirens several miles out from the perimeter of the North Anna nuclear plant, but not close enough for us to hear when they test.
