my neighbor the fireman said the River level was as high as the tops to the handrail on the walkway all the way along the harbor.
I'm going to drive down tomorrow to check it out, but with continuing rain, this is not a good situation
Feels like we need an ark

Well you take care. Maybe you can drive your Kubota or Massey to town, they have some ground clearance.

Drew, glad you 'weathered' the worst of the storm so far. Be careful, as you are aware, swift water can be deadly. Didn't look like you had anything blow away!

You guys near the storm take care, we got lucky, even the bands that got this far lost their moisture before they arrived. A little breezy but not really windy.
I mowed this afternoon, my lawn is very lush to say the least, 7 days and it was so thick it laid in clumps even though it wasn’t extremely tall.
Took this shot yesterday from the rear deck. Not sure you can see just how thick it is from a photo.

Good evening all. 71F this morning, humid, clear, calm wind. Wind became moderate with some gustiness, sky clouded up early afternoon, heavy downpour mid-afternoon (about .7 in), another downpour 7:30 PM, and high temp of 88F. bike ride this morning, worked on wood pile, most of the rest needs resplit or cut to length. Didn't get restarted on wood because of rain. Walked dog.
Drew sound like you are weathering well :cool2:
No British cars in my garage, never had the room for a spare spare car:rolleyes:
prayers for all.

Looks like Drew will be in the clear soon. The eye hasn't moved very far since this afternoon. Fortunately he was on the outer bands. My SIL sourh of Durham is getting soaked good.Screenshot_2018-09-14-23-07-38.jpeg

thanks for thinking of me guys. More rain today, but looks like worst of it has passed, middle of the State getting more heavy rain but looks to be slowly clearing here.
Going to make a run to food store this morning, after driving down town and seeing if I can get a picture.
Then expect to be out for hours, if not raining, raking and cleaning up leaf and stick mess.
Too wet to run tractor and wagon over lawns, will use UTV today, likely will hook up pull behind vac tomorrow and try to suck up all the leaves and debris that way.

This could have been much worse and sure has been for a lot of folks.
Up early, enjoying first cup of coffee, making lists of things to do.

Hope you all have a nice weekend. Now I know I will.

My siblings had all unanimously suggested I get a townhouse by the River with a dock, but growing up outside a River town,
I knew it was only a matter of time before this happened. Even with a home raised up a full story, which means an elevator for most downtown by the River, then you still have to move your car, and then how to get back, etc etc. For me it's like Florida, happy to go visit and then come home to dry land.

In fact I booked a nice stay with my friends in Delray Beach in January and won't mind the incredible wintertime traffic one bit.
I decided to drive, and staying in nice hotel in Jacksonville. I can't do 12 hours by myself anyone. Might as well slow down and enjoy myself.
Going to a Boat Show while down there, and my friend may finally buy his new boat. I'm there for moral encouragement, plus one of my usual unusual sidelines was selling yachts for three years in Ft. Lauderdale twenty years ago. However since my friend was the guy who got me into boating long ago as well as being a careful researcher, I don't have much to help him with.

He wants a boat with "the look" and I have suggested, at our age..., he go slower and get a family cruiser, something he could use more often, stay drier, etc.
Lead balloon.
This is the land of Miami Vice and you're simply a weenie if you don't have three motors...;)
If you are going to spend a quarter million bucks on a new boat, you want your neighbors to admire it.
Problem is, that doesn't buy you much boat anymore. When you compare that to a house, rather remarkable actually.

I agree comfort over speed and for me my reaction times have slowed enough that I know a situation involving speed could get me in trouble very fast. I’ve had my eyes on a 232 Grady for a while used but low hours time will tell

Good morning all, 68 going to 74 with a 60% chance of showers. Had a very light rain most of the day yesterday, .30 in by last night. Need to run to Wally World and return a baby monitor as the charger connection is shot and won't stay on.

Drew , great news that you are doing well and none the worse for ware. Take it easy with the clean up today.

Randy, my grass was short, thick and clumped up too, must be the season.

Prayers sent for all in harms way and in need. Have a great day. Ed

73 going to 78 and likely rain. We have been lucky - only light showers and mist and breezes from Florence.

Washington will have a lot of clean up after seeing that video. I bet New Bern is in even worse shape. Glad you are doing okay, Drew.

Took yesterday as a rest day, although I took my wife to lunch at our favorite Tex Mex place, and walked the big outdoor mall for some exercise. I found some identical replacement hiking shoes for the ones I have completely worn out with holes. The schools were closed for the hurricane, so everywhere was pretty busy, even with occasional showers.

Good morning all.

No rain here, the sun was streaming through the windows first thing, inviting me outside for a short walk. After months of finally adjusting to the long hot summer the air felt decidedly chilly. Max's enthusiasm for outdoor life soon waned too. He stopped, turned around and gave me a serious stare that said why don't we just go back inside and wait until it has warmed up a bit. Smart dog.

I can't remember if I put up this picture that I took a few weeks back of a tiny tug boat with a teeny weenie identical boat in tow on a nearby canal. It had everyone laughing who walked past, but doubt it would impress your friend who wants 3 motors Drew.

Along with getting lawn cut yesterday spent way to much time talking to Receptionist, Nurse and Doctors. But got a few answers about my upcoming surgery. Since I may have some SS hardware installed on my arm and shoulder. I cannot get dental work done for up to 3 months after surgery. Dentist is trying to fit me in before 10/10. I need a crown on a broken tooth and a cleaning.

Riptides, I have the same grape vine growing on fence, in woods and in the dewberry patch. Has taken over almost everything. Fence and woods is no problem. When fall comes I chop them off at root base. But the dewberry is a losing battle The vines have completely covered the whole area.

Randy, my lawn looks the same. Lots of clumps. But it sure is green.

Drew, glad you are making it threw Flo with minimum damage. Stay safe during your trip to town.

Thomas, got closest Kubota dealer phone number on my phone. But forgot to call him. :ashamed:

Eric, cute little boats.

Good Morning All.
