My siblings had all unanimously suggested I get a townhouse by the River with a dock, but growing up outside a River town,
I knew it was only a matter of time before this happened. Even with a home raised up a full story, which means an elevator for most downtown by the River, then you still have to move your car, and then how to get back, etc etc. For me it's like Florida, happy to go visit and then come home to dry land.
In fact I booked a nice stay with my friends in Delray Beach in January and won't mind the incredible wintertime traffic one bit.
I decided to drive, and staying in nice hotel in Jacksonville. I can't do 12 hours by myself anyone. Might as well slow down and enjoy myself.
Going to a Boat Show while down there, and my friend may finally buy his new boat. I'm there for moral encouragement, plus one of my usual unusual sidelines was selling yachts for three years in Ft. Lauderdale twenty years ago. However since my friend was the guy who got me into boating long ago as well as being a careful researcher, I don't have much to help him with.
He wants a boat with "the look" and I have suggested, at our age..., he go slower and get a family cruiser, something he could use more often, stay drier, etc.
Lead balloon.
This is the land of Miami Vice and you're simply a weenie if you don't have three motors...

If you are going to spend a quarter million bucks on a new boat, you want your neighbors to admire it.
Problem is, that doesn't buy you much boat anymore. When you compare that to a house, rather remarkable actually.
