Got most of yard mowed before the grass started getting wetter.

got a grapple bucket and a half loaded before the rains started again and I was chased back in.
At least the junk out by the road is picked up.
Felt good to get some exercise.
Looks like on and off rain all day, think I'm going to do what my neighbors have done. Sleep in...

I want the battery pack where I get plugged in...

Any more on what's going on around you?

Eric, I just saw on our evening news that a hot air balloon from Shropshire is coming to Albuquerque NM for the International Ballon Festival next week. It is a Yellow Emoji. Not sure which emoji. Have you ever seen it or know about it? Wifey instantly asked: "I wonder if that's Eric from TBN ?" Now that would be neat.

I don't know about Eric coming here but Helene is going there according to NWS. Get ready Eric. Ed

good morning all. Sheriff in one of the small cities affected by current flooding about 40 miles away said either evacuate or contact your next of kin for burial instructions. That seemed to have gotten some attention.

I'm at the very very top of this system, and darn it still in it, light rain out this morning, will continue for much of day, but seriously heavy rain inland, and the streams and rivers can't handle it.
Total of 8 inches of rain here, thankfully managed by prior dry ground so most has been absorbed by now, though still some lawn lakes, which tells me ground is totally saturated, no place for water to go.

Have a huge amount of raking to do this morning and no help. Will try to get it into piles and hopefully helpers will show up later this week.
Crud on driveway almost an inch thick. I should sell/give this pine straw to Larro, who makes money from it.
I'm picking big stuff up off lawn, then going to mow next time hauling trac vac. I'll have to sharpen the mower blades when I'm done but sure beats raking five+ acres.

My friend at the River said she lost everything in basement, hot water heaters, everything up to about 6 feet up. Glad she has adult son who can help clean up the mess, I have my own to clean up...
I had loaned her a portable generator and she told me that saved her, had no idea what she would have done without it. Neighbor on one side could not start their gen. Other side had no gen.
Uh, yeah, why not go buy one for 500 bucks? Remarkable how many folks just have no idea how to prepare. You live on the River and this is going to happen every five to seven years. Not for me...

I'll guess I'll be loaning her my pressure washer too.
First, likely this afternoon, I have to pressure wash my whole front porch, entire side of the house covered in wet leaves, which will stain after awhile.

Good morning all, 67 this morning going to 71 with an 80% chance of rain. Well, I am another year older today, been thinking about my dad as his birthday was Friday, he would have been 104. No plans for today except to watch the boy eat cake. He sure loves it. :)

Drew, glad all of your damage is not to the very important stuff. Life, home, cars ect. I know you will be glad to see the sun again.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

Now Ed I think the French would surely approve!

"Let them eat cake" is the traditional translation of the French phrase "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", supposedly spoken by "a great princess" upon learning that the peasants had no bread. Wikipedia

Little story. The 35 year old son of a volunteer at the food bank comes along with his mother and does his best to help out.
Have no idea what his medical/mental issues are but they are fairly profound.
Well, one of my yellow watermelons was dropped, and it cracked open.
He was so fascinated by a yellow watermelon I was told he sat there for hours happily munching away on that watermelon
and ate almost half of it, looking very content when done.
May your boy be equally content when he's done his cake Ed.
Life truly does have its simple pleasures.

And Happy Birthday Ed!

I have only been to a hot air festival once. Marvellous to see, but I'm quite content to do that with both feet firmly on the ground.

We often get balloons coming over. Some can be quite low, but I've not yet noticed a yellow emoji balloon. Max is never happy at them violating his airspace, though fortunately for them he is not very adept with a shotgun.

You may have heard of Per Lindstrand, who designed balloons to cross oceans and flew them with Richard Branson a few years ago. His Lindstrand Technologies company is here, in the next market town to the west. If you have the desire and the money, they have the know how to make whatever balloon you want.

A slow wet start to the day here, cool enough for the underfloor heating to turn itself on in several rooms. Soon be time to start lighting fires to keep down the electricity bills.

Happy cake day Ed !

Kyle you are right, the tug boat pic was taken from where the canal branch into Ellesmere ends, close to the town centre. I sat there while my wife did a little grocery shopping and watched two boats come into the canal basin. The first took it steady and executed a perfect handbrake turn (or whatever the boating equivalent is called :ashamed:). The second came in faster, swung too far and then applied a little two much power before frantically throwing it into reverse. The forward momentum won out and a few seconds later the bow collided with the corner of that poor old building. It obviously wasn't the first, as there is a hole there that has been bordered over where other bricks are now missing.

Do they call that area of water where the boats turn around a 'Winding Hole" ? BTDT over in Wales.
