Something about the VA.

The one about “Despicable Democrats” seem to be missing as well. Don’t know if any of the “usual suspects” are missing though. Most of them seem to be really pushing the boundaries of the “new rules” to incite normal folks into getting angry and striking back at them.

the rain has started...had early greasy breakfast at greasy spoon down the street, yakked with locals, grill shutting at 10:30am this morning.
only two things left to do, bring in my flag and take down the hummingbird feeder.

At least half a dozen TBN members in NC, not sure of SC but I think some ETA grapples are going to get a workout.
Mother Nature's tree trimming. Today should be fairly quiet with steadily increasing winds.
I'm going to watch this site:
Frying Pan Ocean Cam powered by EXPLORE.org - YouTube
over 6000 people watching it, live cam 34 miles outside Wilmington NC
early this morning just a few little ripples, breezing up for sure

now to make a list of inside jobs since I'm stuck inside for three days.

70 ish this AM. Wet, but not raining. Very odd weather pattern here for me. North of us got pounded last night. Slow movers too, so lots of water came down. South of us, breaks of sunshine and what not. Not hurricane related, just two weather fronts trying to decide what to do over us. Heading to mid 80's today with possibility of rain. Some of that, may be hurricane related starting next week. In any case, the weather for the next 5 days is chance of rain everyday, some with T-Storms.

Prayers to those in the path of the hurricane. Hope it downgrades further.

Waiting on mower from dealer tomorrow. Yeah, gunk in the fuel lines. Not my gunk. I went and bought some new gas cans and hope that will help? Odd.
My lawns are over a foot high in spots. May just let the neighbor hay it all. If it ever dries up. I need to do some serious drainage work in the front. Looks like another million dollar project. LOL.

May have to go back to the run-in today. No rain, need to get the roof on.

Have a great day all, be safe!

Don, it must have been a great feeling to get a big healthy PASS on those tests. I hope you apologised to the doctors for screwing up the control group results by massively changing diet and refusing to die prematurely :D Did they reveal the percentage of people who are still alive to take the tests 5 years on ?

Eric, they added people to the study continuously and just stopped adding people this year. The results are trickling in as people like me finish up on the 5 years, but it will still take another 5 years before the study is finished. I just noticed yesterday they stopped taking new applicants at 1300. After I get the written results next week I will call them with my list of questions. I had a thousand questions I wanted to ask but after the test and impending 4 hour drive in Houston's 5pm traffic I just wanted to get on the road. That is a good question and I will ask it next week.

And yes Eric, at the onset I did apologized and advise them that I already have been doing the diet and exercise of the study group and that by randomly putting me in the control group I would be messing up their results. They assured me that the study is completely random and there are people doing the extremes in both groups. They also informed me that it was probably a good thing I was in the "wrong group" because it would cut the number of trips I would have to make to Houston. The other group got lots of info, classes and support, but met about 6 times a year. They advised me just to continue what I was doing.

After talking with the Dietitian Tuesday and filling out the 102 page survey and the food diary she said I got a A+ and was doing a better diet than most of the people in the study group, (Sadamo figured this out already). After I explained all my sources of information the seminars with cardiologist and Holistic cruise with renowned Doctors and numerous telephone calls with different clinics in the US, and books, many books, she said I probably know more than she knows. I also read all the information about DR. Lance Gould, the Dr. in charge of the Century Study and his diet that the study group was doing. About K. Lance Gould, M.D.| The Weatherhead PET Imaging Center Yes I feel like I cheated - cheated death. I really tried to get my brother to join the study - there would be a 50/50 chance of him getting in the right supportive group - but he did not have the time.

Eric, I will relay any data I get on the study. I don't know how much they will release before the end of the study.

They have know for 20 years the effect of the diet on heart disease, and there are many studies already completed on that. Now they are just studying what incentive people need to get on and stay on the diet.

I sometimes wonder if this study was down the street from RS and he was in the Study group, and complied, if he could have escaped his last procedure. Like I said all the info is out there it just depends on where you put the importance of your time doing research and how to determine the results and methods of all research and sort out the sometimes misleading attention grabbing headlines.

Another nice site opened up to everyone for this storm.

With Hurricane Florence expected to make landfall, Harris Corporation is making Helios FREE for real-time road condition updates for residents. To access, please visit: https://helios.earth/explore/login. Just type STORM as the username and password.
We encourage everyone to follow directives from your local authorities to remain safe.

68°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 85° today.

Hope they find the idiot who drove around that bus. That happened here in the STL area. Ballwin MO is in West St. Louis County.

Drew, the side you're on will get the highest surge. Remember, some have hit 25 feet or higher. The rain water will have high salinity. With waves at 80 feet, there is a lot of frothing effect that gets picked up in the storm. Rinse off your stuff that can rust with fresh water after the storm.

Don, congrats to your determination to whip your heart disease.

Prayers for all our east coasters.

Good Morning!!!! 58F @ 5:30AM. Sunny. High 74F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Just checking on a friend's new-to-them home in New Bern, NC, and find that it sits only ten feet above sea level. The storm surge in that area is predicted to be 9-13 feet. Good thing they've got a finished attic, and I hope their cars aren't damaged too badly. For them, it's coming down to a game of inches.

Got the ATF changed in the truck yesterday, and was doing very well not spilling any until it came time to pull the filter out. About a quart of ATF came raining down, most of it landing on a frail plastic tarp that's seen better days, so some soaked through to the concrete beneath. Fortunately it all evaporated in a few hours; never new ATF was so volatile. Took two cycles of filling the transmission with 6-7 quarts of ATF then starting the engine and watching the old fluid get pumped out of the return line into a bucket, to complete the flush. Took longer to pour those 19 quarts of fluid in through the dip stick hole than any other part of the job, and I'm glad that's over.

Got the rear brake shoes back on the old BMW, mounted the wheel, and still have plenty of clearance to the exhaust collector, so that hurdle is cleared. Reassembled the front master cylinder, and will rebuild the wheel caliper today. Also need to find the rear brake pedal and get that installed.

Hope everyone stays safe from Florence, but I suspect by this time tomorrow a lot of folks will be needing help.

Drew you might want to move any valuables off the floor and have some blocks of wood to raise furniture. Do you have access to your roof through your attic might keep an axe nearby.

It's a warm 51° this morning and no wind. The wind yesterday was 20-30 mph with sunny skies. Looks like today will be about the same low 80's with more wind and sunny.

Making a trip to town this morning. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring.

Everyone in the path of Flo stay safe.
CWB.

bored already of being domestic. Towels under all doors, spent an hour rubbing beeswax polish into kitchen cabinets.
I don't have any issues at all of high water. Before all the ditching done on this property, worst it got was just under two feet, per water stains on pilings under home. Entire home raised up about five feet. Nothing to do about vehicles, they'll be fine. I'm ten miles from the River, the surge isn't coming that far...that's why I bought out here, to get away from exactly this. Near the water, but not in the water...

I have such an ingrained fireman itch to go help people downtown but best thing I can do is stay off the roads.
Looky Lous create a lot of problems for more than themselves.

still pretty quiet here, first heavy rain now coming onshore at Havelock, where all the Marines are South of me.
And then straight at New Bern where RNG's friend is.

update: got email from friends in Wilmington, they bolted, drove last night to daughter's in Richmond. Smart. He had big canals right behind his house. Wake up to find an alligator in your living room and that's no joke.

Good morning to all! Low at 50° this morning, up to 85°. Like CWB, no rain in the forecast for the 7-10 days. Had a few good rains over the past month, but still in drought conditions.

If someone could figure out how to stretch a big tarp over the East Coast, slanted towards the west, maybe we could get some of that rainfall.....

Everyone stay safe, especially Drew. Sounds like you guys are well prepared. Good news that the storm has been downgraded.

Had a different 'water issue' yesterday. Came home from work and the wifey reported the laundry room flooded while washing a load of clothes. She had most of it all cleaned up by time I got home, just some water remained behind the washer and dryer, she couldn't pull them out. I was hoping it was just a hose leak, but nope. Coming from inside the washer. This is the third time the washer has leaked from an internal seal or component. It's 10-12 years old. They say that's about the life expectancy of 'modern new washers'......really? What happened to machines that last for 20-25 years? So....I guess time for a new one. We went into town last night to look...spent about double what I was expecting

Again, everyone stay safe and out of harm's way. Drew....avoid the fireman's temptations...

Welcome to the GM thread for all the new guys and returning 'old' guys:D

Prayers out for everyone. Have a good day.

Don thanks for advice about elevating valuables. I've been giving the same advice to ladies in the Garden Club who aren't leaving downtown.
Which reminds me to email the President (of the Garden Club) and remind her I will likely have hot showers and guest bedrooms in a dire emergency.

what an excellent idea

Wishing for the best to all in the Carolinas, been watching kind of close.
My SIL and daughter and 2 grandkids living in Jacksonville, NC., he is deployed at this time (on one of those big gray boats),
and they also have a house for sale in New Bern.
Wish they would have evacuated but also know that I would have stayed also,
went thru hurricanes both times I got stationed at Cherry Point back in the 70's.

Lou, living along the East Coast has such wonderful benefits.
But you sure can get the tar kicked out of you by weather.
Perhaps no more than folks in Tornado Alley and near the Gulf.
We are so built up that severe weather brings huge price tags.
And it's not all insured.

Guy this morning at breakfast at the greasy spoon was grousing about having to pay so much
for flood insurance because he was paying way too much because of all the beach houses getting washed away.
In fact was getting a bit incensed about it. I didn't think it was time to lecture him about premiums of the many
pay the claims of the few, because he sure thought there were too many of the few....;)
We went on to other topics.

am watching out my rear security camera and seeing the trees and bushes sway back and forth,
not much rain yet. Hope not to watch any big pines from the woods fall on the barn.
thought about pulling the Kubota out and parking it out in the middle of the field, but then figured that
would be overdoing it. He said with less optimism...

I haven't had the rain others in Western NC and Virginia have had so first six inches aren't a big problem beyond normal pooling
and backing up until main water drains clear. More than six inches and I'm likely to lose some plants and shrubs.
I'm pretty sure the veggie garden will be toast.

I have a couple of old fountains I think I could still get to work, though solar is the way to go,
and put one on that brown spot. Always dies in the heat, top of one of the two septic tanks.
Am tired of looking at that brown spot. Can't plant anything there.
That will be a good project, resurrecting a fountain. Hope all the parts made the move.
anyone have a recommendation on a solar powered fountain?

no... no glass balls, pink flamingos, giant frogs, etc...
