Good morning!!!!

And for many of us if the power goes out the landline goes out!

They did away with copper in my neighborhood and it's all fiber. They did away with backup battery systems similar to a computer UPS and went to a container that holds about 20 D-Cell batteries as the ONLY thing authorised to be hooked to the phone system. The D-cell battery system only lasts 8 hours. So now we are effectively WORSE off than back in the 1980's when we could rely on the phone working during power outages

So now I rely on my Mobley hooked to DeWalt batteries.

That's a terrible system, newbury. Makes you wonder what genius thought that was a good idea.

We still have copper lines, and we still keep an old rotary phone in a basement closet. Our landline is a four phone cordless system. During power outages, if we leave a handset on the main base, its battery provides power for the rest of the system. Of course, this is only good for as long as the battery lasts. Fortunately, we haven't experienced any long-term power outages at our place.

I've missed you guys. I just have a social media problem. Not enough daylight for me to garden and surf the web.

I can understand that. Still have missed your camp and garden updates. You and Drew could compare gardens now. Are you still working at the community center? Stop by more often. Take care.

Saw a post on facebook last night about those expected to be impacted by the storm.

Take pictures in every room of your house, open drawers, closets, etc. Take lots of pictures and save them to a safe place. He said that for insurance purposes, it can be very helpful if you have storm damage.

My backup resource at work is traveling this week, so is unable to back me up at work when we are camping Thursday-Sunday, so I will check emails periodically and respond to the urgent ones.. IIRC, the campground has some cell coverage. I might have to drive over to another section of the campground to get good coverage..

Next week, I get to travel to Plano TX for work, they have us going long days so won't get out much except for hotel and office.

Good Morning!!!! 63F @ 9:15AM. Partly cloudy. High 74F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

That's a pretty normal mix of folks showing up for the Rendezvous. And we were all surprised and grateful that the burn ban didn't include campfires. At more than 8000' of elevation, the campground was greener than the valley below, and campers had cleared out anything burnable for a good distance away. We were burning wood hauled in by the folks that organized the event, and kept the fire level down pretty well, too.

Good to hear from you again, Larro! Miss your camping stories.

Picked up a filter for the automatic transmission on the Ford yesterday, so today I'll drop and clean the pan, change the filter, and flush the torque converter by changing out the fluid a couple times. Wouldn't you know it, though, the delayed shifting problem didn't happen even once yesterday, and now I'm wondering if it isn't something to do with the 100F + temps of the last few weeks.:confused3:

Also leaned that the mechanic has the AC working on the van (still needs vacuumed out and filled to correct capacity, but no leaks were found), but he is relying on some brand x circuit board to cure the engine control faults. They're not setting the Check Engine light, and he thinks it'll pass smog the way it is, so he'll get it tested today or tomorrow. Still hasn't addressed the vibration problem in the drive shaft to the front axel, though, and it's probably related to the rear engine mount that is interfering with the exhaust header. I may have to go down and help him on that one.

Happy Hump Day!

71°F and only .02 inches rain. We are blessed indeed Olivia has been a non event for us so far. Possibility of significant rain from the backside. Have to wait and see.

Got my blades remounted and a quick bit of bushhogging before I quit with wind kicking up and rain threatening. Strangely, rain stayed off shore

Hope Florence takes a beneficial turn. Sounds like you guys are prepared.
Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Delightful to hear from Larro. Maybe he heard me asking about him through the ether.

hot day, 95 and sunny, nice clouds, no hint weather doom is headed in. Got all the mowing done, now can relax.

Drew, there is a new kid in town as far as hurricane parties are concerned.

   / Good morning!!!! #81,634
Latest projection is the hurricane will go west instead of north. We might get nothing. Guess my stocking up paid off.

Nice Larro, no one to talk to when the lines go down....

thank goodness for satellites...

might be wishful thinking but looks like changing forecast shows 60mph winds here, lot lower than earlier predicted.
Let's see if Accuwrong can handle it. Probably will break off its post...;)

The rain has played havoc with my garden. It's rained all summer. Almost everyday. But I'm still replanting. I have sweet corn, okra, peas and greenbeans less than two weeks old. Will have to wait and see if any of them make it to the finish line.

Yep, I'm still neck deep in weddings and birthday parties. Although this week is a slow one. I'm off until Saturday.

I've made a new camp. Down at the river field behind the young Longleaf pines. Picked up a two room tent at a thrift store. {Olympic by Greatland} The tarp compound is complete now. Sorry for the foggy picture.

And the back view. Pretty low profile.

There is a hint of good news on the hurricane, but too early to tell if it holds up.

   / Good morning!!!! #81,638
Good Morning. At 0945 it's sunny, 84F with 74% humidity. Forecast high/low of 91/73F with 50% chance of rain. 10 day high/low of 94/70F with only 3 days of possible rain. Our longest "dry spell" this summer has been 4 days, so some sunshine would be welcome.

Welcome, back. Great to see you here.
