nicely said charlton and welcome.
have a roll of plastic on the back of my golf cart, but will look for more.
Heading to TSC when they open, if nothing there will go to Lowes.
That I dread. Yes, my next priority is to have roof repair materials ready to go.

65mph from NNE. Directly at front of house, best direction, since no large trees there except those dogwoods and they aren't that big.
does mean I have to make the furniture on the front porch more secure. Will move them all down to an alcove and bungee them all together.
but can't depend upon just one direction as storm moves, and hope once it stalls it's just a rain event.
But they show 50+ mph winds for a long time...

Guys we all see what’s coming, judicious preparation and most of all prayers, only one can stop this storm.

Based on the current forecast, inundation of 6 to 12 feet above ground level will be possible near and to the east of the
eye across the southern North Carolina coast...including the Pamlico
Sound, and tidal portions of rivers and streams. Significant storm surge flooding is expected over the northeastern North Carolina coast
with inundation of 4 to 8 feet above ground.

The current rainfall forecast indicates
widespread amounts of 15 to 20 inches with locally higher amounts up to
30 inches possible.

I might need a boat...well, my cab Kubota may just be the way to go.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 57° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 75° with sun in afternoon. Did not get anything done yesterday. But did get a good report from Dentist. Just a sensitive wisdom tooth that should have been pulled years ago. Doctor appointment this morning. Then peck away at the todo list.

Take a minute to remember 9/11.

Sure does not look good for those in path of Hurricane Florence. Please take precautions for your own safety. Anything else can be replaced. Prayers for all in its path.

Drew, you going to park tractor next to house incase you need it for evacuation.

charlton289, :welcome: to TBN Good Morning.

Good Morning All

You can cut the humidity with a knife this morning. Highs in the 80s, looks like fall arrives with Florence, highs late next week around 75 and lows below 60. I’m ready for that, just not the winter that follows.

Drew, I’m worried about you, I’m also worried about you guys in the likely flood areas. We look to be spared the worst here, just some strong NE wind and rain, coming in two batches, Friday night into Saturday, and Sunday night.

Ron, thanks for the 9/11 reminder, Ellen and I are going to a remembrance tonight over in Georgetown, DE.

Never Forget.

surprisingly easy run to Lowes and fully successful, scored four large tarps, decent quality and several types of roofing nails including the ones with big plastic caps on them to hold the tarps down. Have lots of duct tape and plastic sheeting. Have one full sheet of T-111 in barn.
Then....roofing contractor coming out at lunchtime to give me quote on new roof. Will thank him with cash for coming out so quickly, but this way I get in line...gotta think ahead. If what I think is going to happen does, as an old insurance agent..., this guy is going to be inundated with work, and if I have a hole in my roof, I sure want to be early in line.
and I picked up some more water and got a hurricane haircut to boot.
A fine morning. Now waiting on electrician at 10am.

Drew, you going to park tractor next to house incase you need it for evacuation.

now that's a good idea. Step right out the front porch into the cab...
Now there's a good reason to buy a new M10,000; so the floor is high enough in floods.

Do not forget, flowing water can wash just about anything away. Even a big tractor.

Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 6:15AM. Sunny. High 84F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Remember that when the power goes off it's very likely that cellular phones will stop working as well. And if land line poles go down, there will be no communication that way, either. Some cell phones have on board AM or FM radios, though, and they can be charged from a car battery. Better to have a portable, battery powered radio, or even better, one of those with a hand crank on it. And the little blow up solar Lucy lights are very nice after dark when the power's out. A backpacker's water filter could come in handy as well.

Not sure how useful a keg of beer would be in a weather emergency, David. I think I'd want my wits about me if the unexpected happens.:confused3: But it sure would be nice to have a cold one after a hard day of cleanup after the storm passes.

I have friends that just moved to New Bern, NC, fleeing the politics of Kalifornia and Oregon. Looks like they're in for a very soggy welcome.

Finished a couple of brackets for mounting the headlight on the old BMW yesterday, and ordered a high tech LED H4 bulb for it. Also LEDs for the turn signals and parking bulb in the headlight reflector.

Grocery run to town this afternoon, and will stop to check on the mechanic again. I forwarded information on fixing the last computer fault code to him Sunday, but haven't heard back. He's been working on it for two weeks and I found the answer with a ten minute Internet search, and confirmed it with a question posted to a Subaru conversion forum that was answered in an hour. :banghead:

All forecasts indicate that Florence will be a major rain event, like Harvey last year. Florence is expected to make landfall and stall.

Our ranch is 100 miles inland, from the coast, and we got 39” of rain and winds of 70 knots +. Ranch was high and dry but, roads in and out were flooded for a week.

We got 51” of rain, at our house in Richmond. Water got to bottom of the driveway at it’s maximum but, homes only a few blocks away had 6-8’ of water in them.

Almost 61” of rain was measured just east of Houston .... a record. This was a 1000 year storm and Florence has the potential to test these records.

6 inches of rain fell from Hurricane Harvey in Texas, shattering U.S. storm record - The Washington Post

Not much of a change in the weather, low 40's in the mornings and highs around 80 in the day time and partly cloudy.

Wishing everyone the best that is in the path of the hurricane, stay safe.

Going up and doing some work for a different neighbor this morning.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

56°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 79° today. Enjoying this mild weather.

Glad to read that you guys on the coast are taking the necessary precautions and preparations. Sounds like this one will be a Duesey. Same for David out in Hawaii, who seems to have the beer situation well in hand as well.

Welcome to the Good Morning thread, Charlton and Michael. You guys be safe, too.
