Good morning!!!!

Good luck Kyle, their time frame sounds like the car dealer痴!

Or the DMV. My wait Thursday last was diabolical. I tried to make an appointment, but the soonest I could get was three WEEKS in the future. Three weeks during which the mechanic would have all the excuse he needed to do nothing on the van. Other offices were even worse. So I just showed up and got assigned a hand written number that started with B. They had about four big TV screens hung up across the room over the teller cages that displayed what numbers had been called on the right quarter of the screen, and the rest was taken up with, wait for it, DMV TV! I kid you not! It was mostly fluff stories, but also had ads, some to advertise on, you guessed it, DMV TV! I thought about taking out an ad asking people if they're bored out of their minds and how they felt about their elected officials not doing something to improve service in this miserable place.:D Anyway, my B ticket was 34, and the current number was 20. And there were A, C, D, E, F, and G numbers, too. They don't bother explaining what each letter category means, but I kinda picked up that the G folks were the ones that had appointments, as five of them were called for any of the others. And in the first half hour, three B numbers were called. Then there was a long B dry spell, 90 minutes long! Then they called five more in ten minutes, two of which were no-shows. That left seven after two hours, and I had to be at the optometrist's in an hour. They got through four more Bs in the next half hour (the no-shows were dropping like flies) , then there were two more no-shows, and it was my turn. The guy waiting on me was apologetic, but said he could only give me two one day operation permits to drive the van. Used to be a lot more, but new rules, you understand. Then I also said I wanted to pay the registration and take it off the non-op classification, which is California speak for having a vehicle which you don't actually drive, but for some reason want to keep listed in the California DMV system. The reason you'd want to do that is that they can charge you all the back registration that you would have paid between the last time you paid and the current date. If that's more than a few years, especially for an expensive vehicle (registration cost is in a big part based on the value of the vehicle), you could end up paying several *thousand* bux to register! But in my case, it had only been five months since the vehicle had been transferred into my name, and the rules said I had to pay the whole year's registration cost which was "only" $119. And, since it wasn't on non-op anymore, he could issue a 30 or 60 day operation permit! Just like communism: take everything away so the populace gets desperate, then give 'em a deal where they're still gettin' screwed and they somehow come out feeling sorta good about it. Like feeling better after you stop beating yer head against the wall. Anyway, I told 'im I only wanted a 30 day permit because the idiot mechanic had already been working on it for 2 1/2 years and I didn't want to give him any excuses for dragging it out even longer. All of this transpired in a time much shorter than it took to tell you fine folks about it, and if I hadn't had to stop in the men's room to shake hands with the President after that long wait, it would have taken a bit less. Oh, and first thing when I got there, I pulled out my phone and started a timer so I could tell how much of my life I'd just wasted, and as I walked out the door it told me very close to two hours and thirty five minutes of my time was no longer available for more pleasant pursuits. Now I regret to inform you that, depending on how fast a reader you are, this horrible excuse for a public service has also cost you, dear reader, a significant, though thankfully smaller, slice of your valuable time, and for that I must sincerely beg your forgiveness.:confused2:

Drew---"would be nice to stay up past 9pm sometime.."

That's actually late for me...8pm is wind-down, 8:30 is getting drowsy, 9pm is starting up the chainsaw (snoring). By 9:30 I've sawn enough lumber to build a town. My problem is staying asleep for longer than 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Wake up all night long, ussually have no problem falling back asleep, just doesn't last too long.

Last night I was soooo tired, didn't have to get up early, so took 10mg of melatonin and 25 mg of Benadryl....should have been out for 8-9 hours.....nope, same stupid wake / sleep cycle.....

Ever done a sleep study? I bet they'd tell you to buy one o'them fancy new machines that blow up your nose all night...

My laptop was being unsociable yesterday, not wanting to let me say "Good morning", or do anything much after the last windows update. I was fairly sure it wasn't a hardware fault and fortunately I happened to have made a full image backup a couple of days ago, so it was always going to be sortable.

I spent most of the day cutting out bad bricks, re pointing the wall and then attempting to get a tarpaulin in the right place to keep off the few drops of rain that the wind was driving sideways onto the mortar, threatening to spoil the days work. Each time I took a break I spent a few minutes trying to get the computer running again and finally it came to life last night.

As if windows problems were not enough, it also turned out to be a bad apple day too.

Still not sure if this laptop is working properly.

I suspect it may have been infected with an Artificial Intelligence bug as when I look at the posts, it's creating totally incredulous dream like stories, such as RNG driving around in his Vanagon !

good morning all. Rain is predicted this afternoon, though nothing on radar.
Warm out, never got below 77 last night, high of 88 in rain today.
That means no more gazebo painting, but plenty of other things to do.
Missed picking okra yesterday, will pick that early this morning and thankfully the tomatoes are starting to come back in.
Up to an inch of rain expected, lawn will love it.
And that's what I'm doing until it rains, mowing the lawn.

Very frustrated dealing with Amtrak yesterday, Got one quote for a sleeper car trip to California, confirmed dates with sister, called back four hours later and the price had gone up almost $2,000. What? Oh, you should have put a reservation hold on that price. Thanks a bunch, no one ever told me that. Now I'm trying for early November instead of October. Big difference in prices based on dates apparently, holiday travel.
This is where I truly miss my old travel agent who would figure out the best value for me and cut through the nonsense and ten minute waits on hold to awful music. So I spent hours on this and had to give up. Will try again, not helpful online trip planner keeps giving error codes as system unavailable, try again later.

Good morning all, 71 going to 83 with a 60% chance of showers and T-storms. Got some wiring stuff for the lathe. Had most of what I needed and it still cost over $50. Can't get used to prices these days. Hope to get the wire run and hooked up today so I can hear it run again and make some chips.

RNG, hope and pray that the van is > you expect and that the wait time is < you expect.

Drew, Praying for your neck.

LS, praying for your knee and sleep.

Prayers sent for all, have a great day. Ed

76 going to 89 and likely rain storms.

RNG, great news about your van, and nice reporting on your prison sentence inside the DMV. I do almost everything needed online, but did have to go in a few months ago. I immediately walked out and decided there had to be a less busy time of day and I did not have anything urgent. I always take something to read when going where I know I'll have a long wait.

Hawkeye, you were smart to look at that tire store on your computer before going in. Saved a lot of wasted time and angry folks.

Don, sounds like life is good in the neighborhood. Definitely many activities I'd join.

Drew, you've reminded me to go pick okra. My wife has been out of town, so it's been a few days...probably have some banana sized ones by now.

Randy, is the comic con the one in DC? Heard a lot about it in years past. Are you practicing your Russian accent?

Went to a retirement party yesterday for a lady I worked with and saw many old friends...she worked for 42 years with the same company.

Son bringing new puppy today for us to dogsit. I don't think it's house trained.

I've got my biggest section to till and plant this morning if I can beat the rain.

Thanks Ed, as I sit here in my usual soft collar. I wear it as much as I can inside, since it's so hot out now in the summer just impossible
to wear while working. I need a rechargeable internally air cooled soft collar, like the cooled seats in a car or truck.
Someone invent that please. With washable covers...

Osteo doc told me everyone with my condition, and I was his worst, does two things. Wears a soft collar and takes a lot of drugs.
I won't take all they prescribe for me, never get anything done. It's why I'm really interested to know how the CBD treatment works for others.
My osteo doc and primary doc just keep telling me, take more drugs. Geeez......no. Not the stuff they prescribe; would never get out of a recliner.

Which is why I keep hoping Larro from Florida will pop back up here and tell us all he has found the Fountain Of Youth.

Bad day at local John Deere dealer. 5 tractors caught fire for unknown reason. Fire department was able to keep the building from burning.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 67° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 84° with chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Up way to early this morning. Arm is bothering me. Tractor is ready to cut fields today. Will have to wait and see if it gets dry enough.

RNG, visiting a our SOS offices ( DMV here is Secretary of State) can be a real hassle. In recent years it has been modernized to almost all digital including getting in line to be served. Works well except on Wednesday. Offices are open until 7:00 pm. Instead of the normal 5:00 pm. On that day they have 1/2 the staff come in 3 hours later than normal. Forget getting anything done during the first 3 and last 2 hours of day. Plus the backup of customers by noon from the delays in the morning. I made that mistake last year. :confused3: After waiting 2 hours and my number was still at 2 hours wait. I left and returned on Thursday. About a 10 minute wait. I still wonder how people get in line that do not have a smart phone or know how to use a computer.

Drew, sorry your Dr. visit never happened. I have a MRI scheduled for Monday morning. But did not get any calls like I normally do for these types of visits yesterday. May end up being a wasted trip.

Hawkeye, hope tire replacements goes good today.

LS, hope your knee gets better. My sleep pattern has been bad for a few years. Sit down to watch TV about 7 pm. But fall asleep before to long. Wake up between 9 and 10. Go to bed but cannot go to sleep. Takes until 12 to 1 am to fall asleep. Then may sleep until 4 or 5 am. I have stopped fighting it and just go with what I get.

Kyle, I fought knocked down mailboxes for about 10 years. Finally put in a 6" pipe post with a 90° angle and cross bar for 2 mailboxes. It has been there 35 year now. I feel for anyone that hits the brick mailbox at neighbors places.

Good Morning All.

Another day, another chance for really bad decisions.
Flip it and say a great day to be alive and make a difference.

Cooler out this AM. Rain chances throughout the day. Will work on run in today. No one around for next few days so no overhead work or working with stuff like chainsaws.

Have a great start to the weekend. Be safe.

Oh, they are here but they hide tractors for themselves. I see one every once in a while by the gardens or on the golf corse. I need to do a little investigating.

Hit 101˚ yesterday same predicted today, so ready for a cold front to push through.

Strength & stretch class in AC this morning with 30 neighbors.

Whipper got very excited last night as a coyote trotted behind the house not heading her barks. A neighbor put a spotlight on it which really got Whipper excited and we had to bring her in to calm her down and go to sleep. A neighbors cat is missing.

Kyle the neighborhood south of us has about 500 large brick/stone mailboxes close to the road. Along with trees, utility poles etc. . . . that's why they make air bags. I could see your concern for a 70 MPH road but isn't yours a 30 MPH road? I had a heavy metal mailbox with a breakaway base, it took more than a bat to push it over.
