Good morning!!!!

When we bought our current home 12 years ago, I was a bit surprised to hear a rooster crowing south of us every morning. And it wasn't long before 2 little girls, probably under 10 years of age, came ringing the doorbell one day asking for signatures on a petition to allow them to keep their rooster. This town still has some "country?" places, cattle, horses, goats, etc. But there's also a city ordinance prohibiting roosters; hens are OK, but not a crowing rooster. Anyway, I never heard the rooster again. Personally, I kind of liked hearing the rooster crow; I grew up with that sound, but I guess I can understand some people not liking it.

I am with you on a rooster crowing in the morning. But then I am always up at sun up. 2 of my neighbors had them. Skunks killed all of them at one place. Other one moved and took his chickens and horse with him. People that bought place have torn down all the out buildings. Don't think they will have animals again.
Like to hear the 6:00 am train blow it's whistle every morning. It's about 2 miles away. There is a subdivision at the crossing where whistle blows. :confused3:

That sounds really interesting. I am not what you would classify as a mechanical type guy. It amazes me how you guys make things. Now I can build just about anything, but don't hand me a wrench...

Interesting side note because I remember you and your wifey got new Ford trucks last year. My buddy's mail lady (long rural route) asked him what kind of new truck to buy for her route. He and I talked long about it and even though he loves the twin turbo ecoboost, we decided that she would be better off with the cheaper coyote V8 (He has one of those too which has proven it's durability.) So the mail lady bought the F 150 with the V8 naturally aspirated over a year ago. Fast forward to now. He found out that she has driven it about 54,000 miles WITHOUT EVER CHANGING THE OIL. She took it in because it started knocking and clattering. Ford is charging her $900 so far, just to try and fully flush the engine. Not sure how exactly they'll do it. I have to say, I'm fairly impressed that the thing went that far with out burning up entirely.

I got to drive my buddy's ecoboost on a road trip and I have to say, I didn't miss the 2 missing cylinders. His is a platinum 2018 and it even has massaging seats. I told him he's spoiled. He wants to put a new chip in it and pump the HP up another 80-100 hp. I said leave it stock while it's in warranty. Its almost a year old and he has a bit over 5000 miles on it. Using only for recreational trips. We call it the foo foo truck because it really is a fancy truck.

I am still wrestling the 11.2 x 24 R1 front tire on the MFWD 5420. It has been off multiple times over the last few years. The tire's bead is looking a bit ragtag. The rim's bead area is going to get sanded and repainted. One thing I can tell you is, DON'T EVER USE SLIME. It works initially, but it might be water based. Whenever I take down a slime tire that is flat, the stuff looks like sewer water with a clump of stuff that resembles a dirty rag in the sump of the tire. This causes the inside of your rims to rust and pit. Argh.
I was going to try Berrymans but our Tractor supply only had it in $15 quarts and not the $30 gallon jug. I really should pony up and get some TRC tire sealant, just don't need 6 gallons.

Looks like 45* we'll be the low this morning, yesterday was in the high 80's with partly cloudy skies. Today is going to be about the same. We have a lot of hazy from the fires out west of us. The sun was red last night and this morning.

I may have found replacement brakes for the trailer. I'll call tomorrow and see if they will work. I did check the water lines and and didn't find anything wrong with them. That's is the only thing I've found that I didn't have to fix.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.

Ron, in this part of the country they've outlawed train horns and whistles almost everywhere because the noise bothered people. During my last 2 years of high school, we lived right next to the train tracks, so we were accustomed to the train sounds and the only time we even noticed it was if we happened to be watching TV and the train noise drowned out the sound temporarily.

The NWS says we have 78 degrees this morning, going for a high of 101 with a 30% chance of rain today, 40% tonight, and 60% tomorrow. I can't say I'm optimistic, but I can hope.

I did something new this morning. I started to use my EGO string trimmer, and instantly had too much string out and wrapping around the shaft. I cut off the excess and it instantly happened again. So now I know what happens if you reload the spool by winding the line on the spool the wrong direction.:ashamed: I didn't have my glasses on and didn't look at that little arrow the last time I reloaded that spool.

Good Morning!!!! 75F @ 6:45AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 99F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

The “visible” satellite map on the weather forcaster’s show last night showed heavy smoke from the two day old Mendocino Complex fires headed this way, so skies are quite smokey here now. Usually I have a view of The Sutter Buttes to the south, but this morning I can see only two or three ridges, just a few miles. Spent an hour or so on the patio yesterday running the bead blaster, and my eyes and nose were burning by the time I was done. So today’ll be another inside day, putting that transmission back together.

Reports I’ve heard so far this morning are that the fire activity was much lower last night that previously, and mostly on the west and south sides away from Redding. Hopefully that’ll give the dozers a chance to get out ahead of the fire and clear lines that’ll stop it. At last count, there were more than 90 on the job.

I came out to a wild area for peace and quiet, not to listen to some hobby farmer’s rooster, or the dog “protecting” his pet goat. I can tell when there’s a new engineer on the train that crosses the canyon a couple miles south of here because they’ll blow their horns at the trestle/tunnel instead of tapping them or doing nothing at all. Either way, it’s not enough to wake anybody up, except maybe if the windows are open on a cool night. In the city, you can’t get away from noise, but considerate neighbors don’t mow the grass at 3AM or let their dogs bark all night. The same goes out in the sticks, and fewer people means fewer inconsiderate a$$h0les, but they’re still out there and it’s a real drag living next to one.:(

Hope things go well for you this week, Buppies, and your doctor finishes his swimming pool or remodel and will find you need no more “therapy”.:confused2:

Just getting off the antibiotics may be enough to get you feeling back to normal, Ed. My fingers are crossed for you.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend...

Such things are pretty common out here. Chico State University has many large oaks on Campus, and almost every year someone is badly injured or killed when a limb drops unexpectedly on a sidewalk or parked car. Down in the SF Bay Area, there was a park where I’d ride my mountain bike, and in the parking lot was a huge Valley Oak. All of the area under the tree was roped off to keep people from parking or even walking under it. When I’m out camping, I’m very concious not to put up a tent under trees of any size or kind. Can’t think of a worse way to wake up than the sound of splintering wood, then, nothing?

I'm guessing you're not needing the air conditioner you bought too much with those temps.

wngsprd, I've seen a huge branch fall off a pecan tree in Zilker park in Austin. It landed on a really nice fixed up CJ Jeep. I'm guessing the branch was about 20" in diameter. No wind, no rain. I wonder if insect damage played a part in it.

RNG, atonement is a good word for the day. Thanks for the beemer photos. I am following your restoration. But this one is not what I consider "old" like the last one you did, nevertheless, I like watching the attention to detail. Glad it's your fingers worn out from sanding and not mine. Every now and then, I have to lap something at work to get it flat by hand. Wax on, wax off. I use sandpaper on a flat granite base. Not my favorite job to do.

Thomas and Roy, sounds like you guys might have the chamber of commerce weather too for the day.

Drew, our melons suffered from the week away at church camp. When we got back, they had shriveled from the absence of rain the whole week. My daughter said they felt spongy. So we are about to do a full reboot on the garden. I would like to get another couple yards of mushroom dirt.

Ed, Bupps and all, prayers for you all.

71°F and .34 inches rain.

Another gratifying day in the books and start of another

Hope your breakfast went well Drew. As for your trip have you considered doing the train, hoping off at various points to get a rental ca, then train to next point? We did the cross country train a couple years ago, sleeper car, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed the rooster stories.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I'm just skimming a few of the pictures taken to give you guys the gist of what's going on. I take many more to make sure I have something to fall back on when it comes time to put it all back together, and a lot of them are close ups that you really wouldn't know what they were without the overall shots to provide context. The one above, for example, shows how two of the the shift fork ends engage the shift cam, and also how the shift detent roller gives that "feel" when the the roller drops into a dip as transmission drops into the different gears. Thirty-seven years is still old in terms of motorcycle evolution, Kyle, people that know about such things call this one a Classic. The blue one was a 1963, and at 55 years old, is known as Vintage. These two motorcycles have much in common, but the '81 has many refinements to make them more reliable, enduring, and easier to maintain. Part of today's fun will be to do some polishing on the shift forks and cams for smoother action. I have an engine parked on my 2'x3' granite surface plate, and being the lazy SOB I am, I'll just use a small piece of 1/4" thick window glass on the welding table for a flat. When you say "wax", are you referring to Dykem layout fluid or maybe Prussian Blue?

This is the best fire map I've seen so far. It shows the Carr Fire burning west of Redding, CA. It seems go be getting at least daily updates, and it can be zoomed and the transparency dropped on the Fire Zone layer to show the buildings and roads inside the fire area more clearly. Drew, if you have an address for your niece(?), you should be able to find it on a google map and then use this map to see how far they are from the active fire zone.

thanks. They are in the NE part of Redding and came back to their home today, but are on hair trigger alert to leave.

gosh it feels good to sit down, been on my feet since 6am. Brunch went fine, I overcooked the waffles but they were edible.
Then I cleaned out the inside of the Subaru, no sense washing it with more thunderstorms coming and it's sitting outside until
I finish redoing the garage. Besides I take them immaculate cars and get no credit for it, somehow there is always a reason to not offer more
and for sure to offer less.

I told the F&I guy I was a no no no guy, I buy absolutely nothing extra. Well he says everyone buys the discounted service plans since
they are 66 percent discounted. What nonsense. Hugely inflated fixed charge service plans where they polish the bearings in your door hinges apparently,
since oil change and filters could never cost half of what they are quoting. So sure they can discount 66 percent when the thing was tripled
to begin with. Plus they get all their service money up front. The big lie comes where they say you need this and I reply by saying what do I have to do to maintain
the factory warranty on my car. Silence. Oil change, I honestly doubt anything else if codes aren't being thrown off.
