Funny you should ask. I first tried Petco, and was informed there was a shortage. Then I went to a place called The Tacklebox, which turns out to be a combination bait shop and bar. Only one door, into the bar, and I had to ask if there was indeed a bait shop. I was pointed down a hallway full of jumbled up equipment of some sort, which lead to a larger room with a counter and a rather large woman that could have come right out of Pulp Fiction. I asked about mealworms, and she jestured toward a refrigerator, and said look in there if we have any. They did, I paid her price, and got the heck out of there.

Can’t wait ‘till I run out of mealworms and get to go back for more.

Listen close ....... for banjo music.

Don, great that you got your bike going and 3 miles is good for a first ride. You're tempting me...but my old 10-speed is a now a rust bucket.

Wow, you do have a vintage. Even my vintage has the newer 12 speeds.
I need to figure out a rear view mirror, my neck is not that flexible anymore.

68 here this AM. Heading towards mid 80's. Mowed yesterday. It was a nice break from all the stuff I don't consider fun. Wife ran out for PT, so I did the work on the run in that unsettles her. Grabbed that stupid no-throttle chain saw, the chevy and a ladder. Evened out and cut those warping poles so I could get the roof on when it shows up. Turned out to be hotter than expected, chain saw at least would start right out every time I moved the truck. May have to look at it later, again.

The grass was really high in spots. Plus I got this mound of dirt that is about 18 inches in diameter that showed up. I think it is some kind of mole. But I kid you not, 18 inches? What says you all. Of course it is right in the middle of the "yard". Of course!

Unsettled weather after today, so a trip around the property with the weed whacker is on order.

Have a great day all, good w/e too. Be safe.

Sounds more like a gopher?

Just over 50 years ago my aunt took me to a zoo in California.

I'm ashamed to say I don't remember any of the animals, only the burger with a really tasty sauce and pickles. That made San Diego one of the highlights of my entire holiday in America

When I was just a little tyke, my maternal grandfather took me to the zoo in Oklahoma City at least a couple of times and the only thing I remember seeing was all the monkeys in a round sunken area with a partially sunken wooden sailing ship in the middle.

Got a bunch more mowing done last night, it was only 89F so cooler than it has been. Some of the grass was higher than the canopy on the tractor. I was real glad I had respirator on as I watched the pollen get knocked off the grass. I'm trying to get the mowing done before I have to swap the sprayer on. I am behind on spraying so my swap and get some critical spraying done, then go back to mowing. I will have to mow all of it again since the rear finish mower does not leave a clean cut with the grass so high and thick.

Good Morning!!!! 83F @ 9:00AM. Partly cloudy. High near 95F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Huh! All the weather guessers were crowing yesterday about how much cooler it’ll be this weekend. Yeah, 95F is cooler than yesterday’s 104F, but once it gets to 95F, it’s still hot, hot, HOT!!!

I dunno what’s diggin’ up your yard, Rip, but you might wanna keep a shotgun loaded with 00 buck handy if I was you!

You sure seem to have more than your fair share of flats, Don. Do you rub your tires with your fingers when you hear them go over glass or gravel? I got into that habit back when I was a kid riding sew up tires, and kept right on with the only slightly thicker inner tube tires on today’s bikes. Tried several times to bend up “tire savers” from old spokes that would mount on the brake pivot bolt and skim the tire surface, but the tires never quite ran true enough for them to get to all of the surface. The front tire was easy to reach, but I always worried about getting my hand caught between the tire and seat tube in the back, and it was an awkward stretch even in my 20s. Not sure I’d be able to to it with this old body now...

The drive on yesterday’s rescue repair mission went very smoothly, other than feeling like I was wandering around in an ant hill that someone had kicked over. One giant urban sprawl of shopping malls, subdivisions, and condos. Ugh! Thought we were going to be working on a mongrel bitsa bike his neighbor needed help with, but instead it was a bike he and his pro motorcycle painter had been building together. Beautiful pearl green paint job, with a huge 10” BMW roundel ghosted into the side of the tank. But no spark at the plugs. We checked the wiring connections, checked that we had voltage and continuity in the right places, still no spark. Finally pulled the lead off the points and grounded it and it sparked. Put a feeler gauge between the points contacts and it sparked. Cleaned the points and it sparked, problem solved. He’d downloaded the instructions for the “ignition booster” when he started trouble shooting, and the first step was “clean the points”. I assumed he had, but he hadn’t.:confused2: It’s always the simple things. But he’s a great cook, and had breakfast ready when I rolled in at 7AM, then fed us a really tasty chicken breast at lunch. Don’t think I lost any weight yesterday.:D

Still needed to do the weekly grocery run after that goose chase, and found a Costco and Winco, and best of all, a Total Wine and more, all along the same strip of sprawl pretty near my buddy’s house. Surprised everything fit in the back, but then I won’t be buying any beer for quite a while...:D

TGIF gang!:drink:

Another cement hauler failed to make the curve below the house. Trailer is in the creek. Driver got himself out. Neighbor took this pic. 37419269_639190276436070_1723777487797747712_n.jpeg

Wow, BEF ... at what point does the DOT step in and say, "Clearly, there is a problem here"?

What's the DOT supposed to do?
If it's excessive speed by the drivers, they could change the limit but if it's being exceeded what good does that do.
If it's loads shifting again it's the drivers going to fast and not controlling their rigs.

Pretty cloudy here, a few rain drops here and there, nothing sustained. Rain tonight I guess. Going to clean out the coop tomorrow, down to about 6 chickens. The newer Redbirds are very good layers, but they don’t live as long as the Marans. We still have 2 marans that are 8 years old. The Redbirds are 3, and have died off much quicker. The marans never laid very well, but they seem to live forever!

Crane on site. Guard rail crew came to fix it, but truck still in creek.
We get about one overturn per yr here.

Driver told my neighbor he lost his brakes.0720181428.jpeg

Well, they could investigate why there are so many of the same type of accident in the same spot.
From one end, they might find there is a problem with the design of the road, and find a solution for that.
From the other end, I'm sure they regulate and certify those truck for commercial use on public roads. Maybe a ridiculously large fine (or decertification) for the company will get their attention on the matter. They are obviously not phased enough by the loss of trucks and product to do something about their drivers (or their trucks, if it's a mechanical issue as the driver suggested). Hit them so it hurts.

That's my two cents, anyway.

The neighborhood has tried in the past to do something. They put in rumble strips.... Unfortunately the solution is to straighten out the curve, which will only increase speeds.

We just got our summer propane delivery (only one fill per year, normally around 400 gallons).. price was $1.49 so not bad for a years worth of heating and cooking (stovetop propane, oven is electric).
