It's been many years ago, but I'm sure I posted about the "golf" carts we saw in Sun City, AZ. In fact, we visited a dealer, and the sales lady offered to let me take some of them for a test drive. They had one that was designed to "look" like a Rolls Royce and another to "look" like a Mercedes. And yep, she said they'd do 30 mph or better. Of course they had both battery and gasoline powered carts. But since I knew I was not going to buy one, I passed on the offer for the test drive.

Was catching up on the weekend's posts when the neighbor started shooting at something at 5:30AM. Sounds like he's using a 22, and is having trouble connecting judging from the number of shots. Hope I don't find any new holes in the house.:muttering:

Made it home from the mountains yesterday by 12:30PM, but by then it was already 102F in the driveway. High 90s for the last 45 minutes of the ride, but fortunately not much traffic. There were two of those traffic light controlled one lane construction zones though, and was able to "filter" to the front of the line as permitted by state law. Saved some passing on the twisting canyon road, exciting but often not a good kind of excitement.

Got a late start on the trip back because the host of the tech day is building another shop on his ranch property, and was a fountain of information on how he chose his contractor. Now I'm even more motivated to make a start on my own project.

Looks nice, but I see lots of time riding a mower in your future, Lenny. Could a big rig like Drew's be in your future? Perhaps one easy enough that your wife could operate it?

Nothing like getting back to basics and making something with your hands to regain a bit of perspective, Ed. If the manufacturer of the mill has a web site, check to see if the correct documentation is available there.

A couple years ago I started having issues with a slower router dropping connections and decided to replace it with something faster. Tried an Asis and found it difficult to set up, then remembered a friend liked the Toastman Tomato version of open source router firmware. Settled on a Netgear R7000, installed the firmware, and it's been running reliably ever since. Bought another one, ran an ethernet cable up through the attic to the garage, set it in access point mode, and now have good signal in the garage, too. Picked up a Netgear EX7000 network extender, ran another ethernet cable out to the pump house, but since the walls are stucco, didn't get the WiFi range I was hoping for. Ended up substituting a PepWave range extender that I mounted outside on the roof, and now have good WiFi on the driveway in front of the house. Each is a different SSID but they all share the same access password, and once login settings were entered into the iPhone and iPad for each network, the devices seem to roam freely throughout the house. I think I read somewhere that I could change the SSIDs to all be the same, and switching networks would be more seamless. It would certainly be easier to just enter only one SSID and password into new devices. If I had it to do over again, I'd give strong consideration to the new line of Netgear mesh routers. No horsing around running ethernet cables and they more or less configure themselves. The mesh routers don't suffer any speed reductions when using the satellite units. The EX7000 ran at half speed when used in range extender mode. Using ethernet cables to connect the routers in access point mode avoids the speed drop.

And that reminds me. Lenny, if you plan on burying that ethernet cable to the cottage, do yourself a favor and use a conduit big enough carry several conductors to allow for future expansion. And don't be tempted to use sprinkler system PVC and fittings. Fit electrical sweeps instead and you'll have a much easier time pulling the cable. I found this out the hard way and ended up doing a lot of digging to replace fittings when I had to run that line out to the pump house.:banghead:

Bird, that Netgear N600 was a good router for its time, but the newer 802.11AC standard supports WiFi speeds three times higher. If the router is giving you trouble, it might be time to consider an upgrade to one of the new mesh based versions. Here's a decent article that reviews some of the systems that are now available:

71 this morning and headed to 82 today. Currently raining. More storms later.

Have some chicken coop work for helper. Then I’ll be putting the Bush hog on and trying to clip seed heads out of pastures between rains. Have to be careful with some hills when wet. But I know which ones and where. Then wife is on me to finish building. So need to start looking at it.

Don. Modified calf carts. Careful. Next step is you’ll be doing burnouts in front of your house and challenging the neighbors to a street race. good luck in your search.

Some of you guys knowledge of routers is amazing. Mines a netgear and it’s what ever model AT&T sent me. Used to be really happy with it. Had WiFi all over house and most of yard. Now phone won’t connect unless in line of sight. Android tablets have no problems in other rooms. Computer(Apple desktop )has no problem with the wireless connection. Satellite receiver is hit and miss. Haven’t got a clue. Thought about getting a new one but have no idea what to get. Anything special needed for dsl and Home network. Have a wireless printer.

The low was 39* this morning, yesterday was in the mid 70's and sunny. Today will be in the low 80's with clear skies and a light wind for a change.

Started on one of the projects I didn't want to do yesterday. I'll work on it off and on tell I get it done. It's a older camp trailer that that needs some TLC.

Went up yesterday to check on the neighbors horses and some of the fence needs fixed. I'll get that done today.

Had a housefull most of the weekend.. wheat pollen is hindering my outside time. Oldest daughter took on another foster, 2 of their own, 3 fosters, makes for full van when traveling. Middle daughter was working on utility trailer for oldest so they have room, but ran into bad wheel bearings. Lots going on, was fun to listen to the "girls" work out the menu for upcoming family camping trip (5 days). It was interesting to hear all of the food allergies and requirements. Our newest grandson has severe reaction to gluten and several other ingredients.

Rented this in the Outer Banks a few years back, typical of LSV laws, they are limited to 25 mph, and can only be used in roads with speed limits of 45 or less.

69°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 86° today with some late afternoon storms possible. All of the rain went right around us over the weekend. We sure could use some at our place.

Weather was absolutely gorgeous Saturday. Never got above 80° with a nice breeze all day. Rather than spend it playing golf as I would have preferred, I took advantage of the lower temperatures to build the new workbench for the garage. Simple project, and it went almost exactly as planned. The only variation came when I found that the 2x4s I bought were not 8' long, but were instead 7' 9-5/8". Adapted and overcame. So, it's not 12' long as planned, but a slightly shorter 11' 7" long x 2' deep x 34" high. The Wife was very pleased, as it's low enough for her to work comfortably at it.

Even though it's still-smells-like-sawdust new, I took the liberty of leaving the drill and box of screws on it to lessen the clean bench impact.



Still have a bit of cleaning up to do where my cut got a little wonky along the front of the plywood. Other than that, it's ready for some new projects. :thumbsup:

Most of Sunday was spent recovering, as I felt like I'd been beaten with a baseball bat (yes, unfortunately, I know what that feels like ... except we call them bokken). I did manage to get the new blades on the zero turn, but that was about it. Spent the evening grilling a bunch of meat for the week (avert your gaze, Don). Loaded with hamburgers, brats, and chicken breast now.

David, those stainless tool boxes look great. Very nice.

You guys all seem to have well stocked shops. Ours has been moved around and boxed up for so long, we're not really sure what all we have. Getting there, though.

We have a large tank trough hanging sideways on the wall in the barn that her grandfather put there to keep scraps of wood. It's jammed full, as are several milk crates on the ground below it. Then there are the pieces leaning in the corner of the tool shed, the ones in the corner of the well house, and the ones stacked in various locations in the garage. We have wood all over the place, some of it probably 40 years old. I just added more this weekend. We toss some in the burn pile occasionally, but we've only just scratched the surface. I like to tease her about it with a phrase from her grandmother, "Better keep that, 'cause you never know ..."

Oh man, that reminds me. I do have a 4x8 workbench in my barn covered in junk. Forgot all about that one... I built it when i was making a large oak entertainment center for a friend. Needed a large work surface for glueing. It was in my basement, got moved to barn and covered with old shop lights that dont work, plus a couple tools on it like my drill press and planer.
4x8 is too deep for most usages. I keep meaning to cut in half, and make two 2x8 workbenches.

Help yourself. Here's the kindergarten sketch I made for it. Had to add some bracing on either side of the 8' joint to sturdy it up a bit, and left out the shelf on the left section to accommodate the shop vac. Other than that, it's pretty much like this.

Back form the doctors. Got a shot in shoulder. Then 4 weeks of PT. Also some anti inflammatory tablets. Cannot start PT or pills until after next weeks test. But the shot has already made a difference. Need to refrain from heavy exercise until later next week.

Hearing that most of us fall in the same frugal vein re cutoffs, not sure if reassuring or just confirms we have a problem. . Still no guilt about the bucket load I dumped and buried. Then again I know there is still that much and more in the garage area I’ll be cleaning up this week.

Hearing that most of us fall in the same frugal vein re cutoffs, not sure if reassuring or just confirms we have a problem. .

Not doing as much woodworking as when I first got this place now, but I brought along a 2'x2'x4' wooden box on rollers that I kept wood scraps in. It stays handy under the work bench. When it gets full, I pull out the little stuff and make kindling from it, or if it's plywood, just toss it out. Longer stuff either goes into the pump house rafters or corners, but it's getting to be time to sort through that and make some more kindling, too...

Had a break at work, 75 and warming, windy so I went ahead and mowed lawn. Too much going on to get it done last week when it was due. Came in and took another shower to get the dust and pollens off. Looks much better looking out my office window now. It is supposed to get hotter this week so will need to get the water going on it in the morning.
