Good morning. It's our Spring Bank holiday today. For us this is a plain and simple extended holiday weekend, with no special meaning to it other than it signifies we have reached the last Monday in May. The much kinder weather than yesterday guarantees this will be a busy day to be out on the roads, so I don't feel I'm missing out on anything to stay at home and wander around fields with a knapsack sprayer.

We don't have much need for air conditioning in houses, in fact if Ron came to visit us in summer he would probably want to borrow one of Betty's sweaters. I couldn't get why you were all talking about A/C in tons. Had to look that one up - guess thinking about all those melting blocks of ice must help you feel cool :)

Goo morning Eric and all. Well for us... it is a solemn and proud day that we honor our fallen ones. We drove by a couple cemeteries this weekend and were filled with the tearful visions of flags at each tombstone. I hope we all take a pause to remember as we enjoy our families, freedoms, and laughter. It did not come cheap.

when the heat index hits 103 here already, hard to imagine the constant cool weather of Hawaii or certainly Eric's foggy cool island.

rain is due in shortly, going to rain for two whole days, sorry Texas and NM and other drought areas.
Up early and enjoying first cup of Guatemalan coffee.
An inside day today, looking forward to it. All the normal cast of domestic characters, laundry, mop kitchen floor, hope to work on garage today and maybe get all my winter transplanting material put away neatly for next year. Where it will go into a greenhouse, not my sunroom. Which I learned gets very little sun...

Any one who has bought small greenhouses, I'd love to get some feedback. Will probably start a thread on this.

Happy Memorial Day everyone in US.

Jim, no snakes and all those cute koalas, what a marvelous island.

Good morning all, 67 this morning going to 79 with a 60% chance of heavy rain and patchy fog. Have no idea what I will end up doing today but I am sure it will be something.

Vets, very thankful for what you did for our country, Thank you.

Ron, my wife changes her mind about the heat and AC all day long and the thermostat bounces up and down all day long.

Buppies, LS, prayers sent your way for your healing.

Have a great day. Ed

Its 56 in Amber this morning - expected to reach 80. All the local indigenous inhabitants are really enjoying this late spring/early summer weather. Sitting here at the computer with the kitchen door open out onto the front porch and little lake - I hear frogs, the ever present pair of Loons and several pair of Mallards. The cool of the morning is very refreshing. A group of coyotes are out west of my place - yipping and talking to each other. Probably getting ready to go out and round up something for breakfast. Life today will be good.

We are all thankful for our Vets and their service to this country.

62 and going to 79. Wind W 3 mph. 40% chance of showers.

I will not cut the grass today. The bugs will be horrendous! I prefer a 10 - 20 mph wind, the bugs can't fly on windy days.

I had to order new black lights for the outside bug zapper last night. I ordered a pair for the inside one while I was at it (they are both the same age and due). They will be here by the 31st. I love Amazon.ca

I gotta slip into town today for a bit of shopping.

If it wasn't for that Jap emperor drawing the US into the war, I think all the allied countries would either be speaking German or Japanese now. I know for a fact that I wouldn't be here.
I don't need a special day to remember the sacrifices our forefathers made so we could be free. I remember every day, but will observe a 2 minutes of silence at 3 P.M. today out of respect. We in Canada usually observe Armistice day on the 11 hour of the 11 day of the 11 month, the end of WW1.

Have a safe day all

Flash floods devastate Ellicott City, Maryland - CNN

wow, these poor folks are not going to like a lot more rain coming in.
For sure this city needs some major flood control work done, if it can
Glad no one was hurt

Toppop, got a dinghy and an oar?

Ellicott City is about 15 or so miles SW of Baltimore...this isn't the first time there was flooding. In 1972, Hurricane Agnes really put the hurts to the city. The Patapsco River runs right abreast the main road there.
My father was supervisor of a state park (Patapsco State Park) at the time. I was in the Navy on either a Med or West Pac cruise.

Ellicott City, when I was growing up, was a rough tough redneck town....the proverbial white trash. It got "Yuppified" in the 70's and 80's

First cup of coffee has been poured. 62° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 93° with sun shine all day. Annual Memorial Day Parade this morning. Then back to clean Wisteria roots from tiller tines. That's all for today. Going to be too hot to do anything outside.

Prayers for those that gave ALL for our FREEDOM.

Good Morning ALL.
