Looks like 27* for the low this morning, it got up to 40 yesterday but the wind was bad all day. We live in a wide open valley and don't have much to stop the wind. We are under a storm advisory tell tomorrow. The wind is supposed to pick up again later and a chance of snow. The sun is out how with a light wind, we'll see what happens.

Not much going on today.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
CWB.

You'll probably change your "want" come August :)

My Mom had a thing about pressure cookers, my Dad often patched the ceiling above the range. I think "Go til it blows" was her motto.

The newer name brand “pressure cookers” like InstaPot, have many safety features not available in the old exploding pots.

"........... safety features not available in the old exploding pots."- Rick

I really like using my old ("explodable") Presto pressure cooker. I enjoy cooking; I enjoy it even more if there is risk involved like explosions and fires. I did melt a gasket once permanently sealing the lid to the pot; but no explosion. It had to be replaced. Cooking stews and corned beef are the usual uses.

I did decide to remove the snowbank at the end of the driveway with the tractor and then tracked up the crusted snow by driving up/down the driveway a few times. The ground and driveway has melted down a couple of inches; dropping the FEL or box scraper blade would have been ugly.

65°F and .3 inches rain. Gotta start drying out one of these days. At least the catchment tanks are full.

More interesting pics, thanks.

You guys in the storm do be careful.

Stay safe
Have a great day

We bought this house in 2006, prior owner was a singe man, and it didn't appear that he'd ever used the microwave, cookstove, or dishwasher, so they are all "old" but still good.

Singe man, huh Bird? Maybe he got burned and was afraid to cook so he ate out alot?

Single or married, I've always depended on all three appliances in the kitchen, and in the early days, the oven, too. Found out about microwave ovens when my grandma bought one of the first Radar Ranges, but it was years before I rented my first house and bought a microwave oven for it. Haven't been without one since. As far as the oven goes, it's pretty much been replaced by a countertop Cusinart convection toaster oven that's big enough for everything except a turkey.

If you donated that cast iron Dutch oven and Presto pressure cooker to your local pioneer museum, Jay, you'd have plenty of room for an Instant Pot. Just remember to order the glass lid for the pot at the same time, and you can also donate your old crock pot.

RNG- Luckily I swallowed that sip of coffee before I read your post; too funny. :D

Our wall cabinet mounted 30 year old GE convection/microwave oven has had a few parts replaced, but is still operating well. I periodically have to replace the heater elements in our old now non-selfcleaning oven. The standard cabinet sizes have changed since we renovated the kitchen. New replacement appliances no longer "fit" in our existing cabinet spaces.

I have enough trouble trying to operate our fancy new dishwasher's programming sequences.:embarrassed: Maybe I should find the courage to enter the kitchen appliance "garage" and see what items of historical value I/we have. My wok is well used and +40 years old. The advantage of my archaic cookware is no electricity is needed. With the Big Green Egg, wood stove, and propane cooktop power outages are just a nuisance if I am cooking. It happens on occasion. We did have some flickering lights last night with the wind.

Have you tried to fire up your propane cooktop when the power's off, Jay? My propane range is about ten years old and incorporates a lockout that shuts off the propane when the power goes off. It was useless to me during the last power outage. Not sure there's a way of bypassing the lockout, either, unless I cut the lines and splice around it, and that would introduce two additional joints to fail in the propane lines. Safer to just fish the Coleman propane stove out of the camping gear.

He had a girlfriend about 2 blocks west of here, and he moved in with her when we bought this house. Of course I don't know how long that relationship went on before he sold this house.:D

Same here, except ours is a Hamilton Beach because the last one was a Cusinart and died early, so I didn't want another Cusinart.

Both our KitchenAid range, and the Hamilton Beach countertop oven, are also convection ovens and we've never used that feature in either one.

RNG- Our propane cooktop is ~30 years old and there is no gas auto shutoff with a power loss. W/o power the piezo-electric igniter will not work, but the gas line is still flowing and can be started with a match/lighter.

Buppies- That potential March 7 - 9 storm is looking better and better. It will have more cold support than this last storm. The models all seem to agree that the "parent" low tracking across the CONUS will transfer its energy to a developing coastal storm; maybe a Miller B coastal. Of course there is still differences with parent low track, timing, phasing, and the rain snow line. I actually saw a snow map generated by a ProMet already.

38 this morning and headed to 55. Currently 53.
Kyle Finley has out done herself again.
Instant Pot-yes
Roomba-yes
Microwave-yes just replaced the one we got as a wedding present last week. It started flaming inside at 12 years old.
Crockpot-yes-2 sizes
Toaster/oven/convection oven-yes although we’ve never used the convection part.
Air fryer-no but wife has looked at them.
Inferred grill-yes

Drew. Nice shed. Be careful with that charger in there. Lots of barns have burnt because lightning hit the fence and caught the charger on fire. Wife’s dad lost one to that. Why mine is outside with a piece of plywood for a roof.

Went and got some lumber yesterday for different projects. 2x6’s to finish fence at barn. 2x4’s to picture frame current openings for new tunnel fans. And 6x6’s to replace some rotten post in the barn. Previous owners used oak post in the ground. Did finally find something the Kubota couldn’t pick up. LA1053 loader can only lift a full bundle of 2x4x12’ treaded boards a few inches then everything stalls. But I did manage to get it off the trailer. Took some finagling.

Currently babysitting. Waiting for wife to get back from city. She went shopping (lack of better term) this morning. She’s making wreaths to sell for an autism fundraiser and is having to buy out all local stores of supplies. And by local I mean everything within an hours drive.

I think my chicken numbers are safe. Especially if y’all are paying retail and adding 5 at a time.

RNG-- why do they do that? We got a new stove a couple of years ago-- having a button with electric ignition is quite the upgrade, but it works without electricity as well. If the eyes get blown out or boiled over water extinguishes them, there is some sort of thermocouple device that cuts of the gas.

We have water in the kitchen sink now! My wife got tired of not being able to wash pots and pans. When the water line to the house was redone 6 years ago, it went in the bottom of a ditch, that then got perforated drain pipe and gravel filled in. I realize that drainpipe is the problem, as it brings cold air up from the stream all along the ditch. I'll have to fix that with some sort of door at the discharge so air won't blow back up it.

But for now, since we have the well working, I just let water flow along the french drain for an hour from the well. It is 10C / 50F, so eventually from the kitchen sink drip...drip...drip... and then flowing. Two more days with hard freezes at night, so we'll leave it dripping for now.

I知 happy y誕ll is all happy with your cooking toys, and I知 happily ignorant thinking my cooking system is just fine. There are at least 6 gadgets in the appliance pantry that I have never touched except to move out of the way. I use my smoker, grill, crock pot, toaster oven, oven and range top. I can稚 possibly see why I need anything else. But if you ladies ever get together and make a cookbook I値l buy a copy.

I知 going out to move some limbs and other debris.

I pretty much just use the convection setting, as it cooks both faster and more evenly. Really works well on quarters of Costco pizza. Frozen to well browned and crispy in about fifteen minutes. But I learned the hard way to cook them on a sheet of aluminum foil to catch the grease...:duh:

I think most of the newer gas cooktops, with piezo pilots, do shut down if power is lost. We’ve got a GE six burner plus two burner grill Monogram cooktop at the Ranch and it will not light if power is off. I tried lighting it with wood match, one time when we lost power for a few minutes, to to see what happened. No go.

The cooktop at our old ranch was a four burner with gas pilot light and it worked with power off.

When we write our TBN Cookbook ...... we’ll expect you to write the Forward Randy. That should get you a free copy.

We’d ask Drew to do it but, it would be 47 pages long.

   / Good morning!!!! #71,737
I can't possibly see why I need anything else.

Sounds like you've got all the bases covered, Randy, with tools you like and know how to use. No crime in that.

Over the years I've come to realize I like eating a lot more than cooking and cleaning up. So if I can prepare a meal using just one pot, that saves me a lot of time and energy. Even better that it's a BIG pot and there are lots of leftovers, the preparation and serving of which take almost no time. So when things like microwave ovens, convection ovens, and the Instant Pot come along, I try 'em out. If they work as advertised, as those three do, I get real excited because keeping myself fed gets a real boost in efficiency and I can waste the time saved working on or riding motorcycles or watching satellite TV. That's pretty much the same philosophy that drove the Roomba purchase, and when iRobot comes up with one that can dust, change the bed, and do laundry, I'll be all over it.

Poor Drew, the guy just can't get no respect!

But if he did write it, you can count on a thorough coverage of the history of the Instant Pot and other modern cooking technologies, safety and fire hazards, available attachments, and tractor compatibility. Jay could probably edit it down to maybe 33 pages if we make the pichers small. Maybe we could talk Don into a couple chapters on healthy eating, Andrew's wife might throw in a couple traditional Slavic recipes, then we could fill the rest of it up with stuff that's easy to make and tastes good.:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::stirthepot:

I didn't mean to leave you out, Eric, but I couldn't think of any traditional English recipes that didn't involve boiling the life out of everything.

Eric might be an expert on making butter scones, butter biscuits (crackers) and butter cakes. (I've watched the Great British Baking Show. The Great British Baking Show | Shows | PBS Food ) Of course they think all we eat is hot dogs and apple pie.:licking:
