Picked up another quarter inch of rain yesterday evening, maybe a few showers later today. Not at all the big storm we were told to prepare for, and that we needed to start getting back to normal on precipitation. Looks like we'll get another chance by the end of next week, but again less than an inch out of the three day system.
Hope your feeling better today, Andrew. None of us heal as fast as we used to.
Glad the nor'easter didn't turn out to be the bomb it was predicted to be, either. A lot of people could have been hurt.
I don't think the Instant Pot has quite the convenience factor of a microwave oven, Don, but it's lightyears ahead of a crock pot. I love the way I can sear a roast or bits of stew meat, then pressure cook it in just a few minutes, all in the same pot. And the meal is on the table in a bit under an hour instead of waiting all day for it. Or just turn the heat down and let it go all day, infusing everything with the herbs and spices like a traditional crock pot. Either way, when the meal's cooked, the pot can go into the refrigerator for the next day, or it gets bagged up for the freezer and the pot gets a quick scrub in the sink and it's ready for next time. No worrying about getting the wires wet like on an old fashioned crock pot. It also makes perfect rice, something I struggled with on the stove top. Yeah, I know, I sound like I'm shilling for Instant Pot. But we've gotta keep Don's kickbacks coming in somehow, right?:laughing:
Made good progress on the wiring for the old BMW yesterday, but now the inside of the headlight shell looks like an explosion in a spaghetti factory. Still have to redo the connections to the battery, installing an inline fuse that was never part of the deal when the thing came off the assembly line 55 years ago. Got the electrolyte into the new battery, too, using a slick six chamber bottle that mated to the battery cells, breaking a foil seal in the process. Only managed to spill a drop or two when removing the bottle, a far cry from what usually happens. Then the whole thing gets sealed up with a string of caps that are designed not to come off, ever (even sez so embossed on the top). So it's an AGM battery, and maintenance free. Another sign we've come a long way in those 55 years. Also installed a pair of cool looking bar end turn signals the previous owner's wife had gifted him with many Christmases ago. If I can get them working today I'll send her a little video of them flashing; I think she'd get a smile at that.
The Roomba also showed up yesterday, but with a flat battery so it needed several hours of charging before it would work. Had to go online to find out it will only attach to a 2.4 GHz network, then it added fine, and I was able to start and stop cleaning cycles from an app on the iPad. It didn't seem to have any difficulty getting out of or finding its dock, even though it was tucked back behind the kitchen table and a forest of chair and table legs. Got up and over the throw rug edges just fine, too, but it seemed to get tangled in some of the longer fringes. It also untangled itself, but I may end up tucking them under the rug to save time and wear and tear on the fringes. It's quieter than the Dyson upright vacuum, and will automatically switch suction levels when it moves between hard floors and carpet. I've been putting off vacuuming this week so there'd be something for it to chew on, and I was surprised at the amount of dirt and carpet fuzz in the hopper after only ten minutes of running. Once I saw it would work, I sent it back to Home using the app and went back to watching TV. Still trying to get through prime time coverage of the Olympics, and very much enjoyed the ice dancing competitions the past couple of nights. Really beautiful, but I wonder what those athletes do after they're too old to compete? Run the Zamboni at the local rink?:laughing:
