Good morning!!!!

Good morning. I think it will be a while before we hear anyone cutting grass around here. -7C/19F and set to get colder. This tail end of February is not being too kind on those born over the last week.

This is the last day we are permitted to cut trees. I'm still allowed to lay a hedge for a while longer, but otherwise can't prune a single branch on my farmland without risking the wrath (and fines) of the environmental police. These people use European directives as justification for their inflexible regulations that take no heed of weather conditions. Never mind, there should be a bright moon tonight and plenty of light reflected from the snow, so I could always keep the chainsaw singing until midnight

If only I could stop the Stihl from spitting out it's oil cap, it would all have been done by now. :confused3:

Hadn't realised it was off this time until the chain went slack. First time it's happened this year.

Thanks for the trail cam info.

Daughter is pecking me half to death to get some chickens. Need to figure out a cheap chicken coop.
Can't wait to see what you build. Titanium sheet again ?:)

38 going to 61 and mostly cloudy.

Cut down 4 encroaching trees yesterday and began limbing them before I ran out of time. The sweetgum may be the largest living tree I've cut down. It fell 180 degrees from my planned fall...which I was prepared for, since it looked like it would want to go that way, and actually may be a better side for cleaning up. The red maple, tupelo and yellow poplar cooperated nicely. Lots of grapple and splitter time coming once the ground dries up a bit more. We had 17 days in February with rain...only one big one, but enough constant drizzle and showers and clouds to keep things wet.

Ed, prayers sent your way.

Need to pour a second cup of coffee. 35° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 58° with mostly cloudy skies. Off to PT again this morning. Got all fallen branches picked up yesterday. Want to get to work on pond. But afraid to lift PVC/net frame until my back is better. I am sure I can find other projects to do. Still lots of dirt and sod to rake up from plowing snow before ground froze. County graded our road yesterday. Why I have no idea. It only needed to be done on the ends where it meets cross road. Oh I know why. Washed the car Monday.

Glad there are not going to be any TEST. I can rest instead of being sick.

Buckeye, maybe Don will give you the code. Save a lot of searching. Last time I looked the compass was hidden in the shade of a tree.

Ed Prayers for you, your Mom and family.

Prayers for them that need them.

Good Morning All.

Good morning! 69˚ partly cloudy. The trees are starting to turn green and the wild plumbs are blooming and the weeds are taking off. I bought 15 pounds of seed potatoes and need to get them in the ground, I'm about 2 weeks late now.

Caldwell County is trying to pass a law that says if you own less than 10 acres you can't discharge you gun. Stray bullets with target practice on one/two acre lawns are really scaring the citizens.

No call back from ProLon MD but did talk to their dietitian about the oil content in their 5 day pre packaged food. She said they are about 7% fat and it comes mostly from whole food form of fat - coconut, etc. I'm hoping I can duplicate their package so I'll only have to buy one if I feel like it does some good.

Julieanna Hever, and Ray Cronise had a cooking class on the Ship and she cooks the way we eat with no need for oil. I ordered their book, they sold out on the boat before I could get one. I like the title. Plant-Based Nutrition, 2E (Idiot's Guides): Julieanna Hever M.S. R.D., Raymond J. Cronise, Penn Jillette: 97814654721: Amazon.com: Books
Mostlygas if you do decide to try plant based start slowly and gradually wean yourself off meat over a few months. This diet isn't for sissys.

Looks like I have to tarp the compass till buckeye gets tired of looking.:D

pot holes, blown tires, cars veering all over the road to avoid suspension wrecking craters.
Nothing like the North...;)
That part I sure don't miss.

Too bad we never built most of our public roads properly, like the Europeans. Their road base is much deeper than ours, am sure the roads are hugely expensive but they
don't fall apart like ours. The freeze/thaw cycle simply tears up our roads way more than it should. Like someone was trying to ensure
job security for the road crews...and thankfully for Buppies.

I have thirty feet of my paved driveway that is cracked and in bad shape due to big trucks driving over edge. That load of diesel fuel was the final straw.
The last driveway sealer I used was a gypsy living down the street, horrible experience, sprayed the equivalent of black water on my driveway that
didn't seal anything. Now I am pretty sure I want it done manually, with a squeegee, put on thick. Have a second emergency entrance into farm, so I can drive around for a couple of days.

Buppies, I bet you have a nice machine that lays down a thick top coat...what should I ask for when I call someone?
Don't you have some part you need near here?...
I read that the number one by volume industry receiving consumer complaints in the US is the driveway resealing business.
I guess I have to find the largest ad, oldest firm, some vetting criteria, and start calling. Needs to get warmer first.

Those two pine trees at the end of the lane are pushing up the pavement all over. Will require constant maintenance until I just chop the darn things down, but can't bring myself to do
that. Yet.

28 and going to a high of 39. Wind ESE 13 mph. The talk is for rain/snow for today. It ought to be an interesting trip to North Bay this morning.

I can't get belly pork around here, it must come from North Bay. From there it is to bulk barn for my Dark French Roast coffee and then groceries at two different stores as well as the Dollar store for some cheap crap for the cats and dog.

That is all I got planned for today.

Have a safe day all

Got caught up in reading two long threads here related to property easements, property lines, etc. Scary stuff how the courts proceeded and didn' even uphold their own decisions. So with that in mind, I may have a problem that could be nothing, or could arise and bite me in the arse. Here goes:
<snip>

LS, must be arcshields thread, it's a classic. Put your situation in a new thread and watch the opinions flood on...

Now your going to have people looking for "arcshields thread".

It's "Shield Arc", rural-living helpful-neighbor.

Ron our county road is turning into a dry weather road only. I’m bottoming out on the high clearance Subaru and using AWD. The county fixed the problem by adding a sign.
If I still had my Prius I would not get through.IMG_1473.JPG

Quite common around here when the frost starts coming out of the roads in the spring.
Around here if they try and work on it, it's makes a bottomless mud pit, a week or 10 days and then it's workable as it dries out.

Your sign reminds me of some earlier trips to Alaska. "Frost heaves" can play havoc with the Alaska Highway (Alcan) at times, and we'd see much smaller temporary signs than your "SLOW" sign, just off the right edge of the road, with one word "DIP". And when you saw one of those signs, you'd better get on the brakes immediately if you didn't want to blow a tire, bust shock absorbers, etc.

But right now, lots of folks in the Dallas/Ft.Worth/Denton area are blowing tires hitting pot holes on paved streets. More than 6" of rain and some cold weather has been hard on our asphalt streets.

Kyle_in_Tex;5012939Di-electric grease my friend said:
I prefer DeOxIt, which has a cleaning agent that will remove oxide and a preservative to prevent it from coming back. It's also conductive. Dielectric grease is an insulator, and in my book has no place anywhere near switches or connections.

Good Morning!!!! 38F @ 6:00AM. Partly cloudy early then becoming cloudy with periods of rain this afternoon. High near 50F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90%.

The winds are supposed to pick up and gust to over 40MPH tonight, with another couple inches of rain. This first storm is on the warm side, but tomorrow night they're warning of snow even at low elevations, and lots of it higher up. As much as six feet in spots, three to five feet at elevations over 2000'. Glad I don't have anywhere else I'd rather be.:D

Hope your mom gets the help she needs, Ed. I remember my mom having similar difficulties, and the doctors would put her on a nebulizer with a medication I can't remember and in a day or two the problem would be taken care of. Seemed to happen most often in the winter, no doubt because of all the colds/flu going around.

If I had to put up with that road, Don, I think I'd be calling someone at the county and emailing them copies of that photo. I'd ask them how they'd like to take their car over it to get home.

Got the wiring harness fed into the headlight shell, only to find that the grommet that protects the wire had split. Seems like a built in fault, so I'll call the supplier today and find out if "they all do that". Fired up the ultrasonic cleaner and filled it with the Chem Dip, and boy does that stuff stink. Did it on the back porch, and it was a good thing there was a good breeze. It did a nice job on the aluminum and brass parts, but not much difference on the pot metal carb bodies. They're clean, just a lot of patina. Got one carb put back together, will assemble the other one today.Might even get them mounted back on the bike. Also got the touring bike washed and dried off, and tucked back safely into the garage. Sure is getting crowded in there.

Dare I say it? Happy Hump Day!

50°F and rain this morning, going up to 59° today with more rain later and into tomorrow.

Carpenter showed up yesterday morning and got a good start on the sunroom window and door finish trim. He got two of the three doors, seven of the 11 windows, and the base boards. Wife said he works pretty quick and efficient. Certainly changes the look of the room. Wifey is pleased ... and isn't that what's truly important? ;) He's supposed to come back tomorrow to finish.

Don, I'm surprised that passes as a "county" road. Like RNG, I think I'd be making some noise about that.

It got down to 16* this morning, yesterday was in the upper 30's and almost no wind. Today is going to be partly cloudy and in the 30's. They are saying we might get a good sized storm over the weekend.

I may have to run to town with the neighbor to get her truck back. Not much else planned for today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.
