22 right now...high about 32 or so....

Nice weekend...didn't get done all I wanted to, but at least the walks and driveway are both passable.

There was a big halo around the moon last night and this morning the low cloud to the west is all tinged with pink, with rooks flying high in the sky and bare branches starting to sway wildly. I'm sure we are going to get rain soon and plenty of it too. A prediction from observing nature ? Nah, just seen the weather radar ;)

Kyle, I can just imagine twisting and repeatedly tugging on a stubborn tailstock. Ouch, hope it's just a minor muscle thing and eases soon.

I have only one very minor pain this morning, but it's one of the better ones to get. Right arm aches, same feeling as when I spend too much time with a chainsaw, except this time it's from a weekend carrying a baby round the house to try and keep him amused :)

Sunday night...almost midnight. Going to bed means Monday morning gets here along with the work week. I think I'll stay up a bit longer. :)

The dog (Brittany) had a great time tonight chasing two flying squirrels. They would jump (fly) from a tree to the bird feeders and then back. Drove the dog nuts for hours! Funny as heck to watch though.

Plans bouncing through my head about putting the crushed gravel down for the driveway this spring along with building the extension to the barn for a rabbit room, building the new trails through the property, etc.. So many projects, so little time and so long until spring gets here. :)

Traveling to Denver next weekend to work from the office at the company I work for during the week. I work from home 90% of the year. It'll be good to see some folks in person I only see 4 or so times year though talk to and see on video everyday....but dreadful to be back in a city for a week. I can already see the sea of stop lights and cars....and....and....people! :) I've gotten to used to living in the woods and only seeing folks if the neighbors stop by for a beer or the trip to Lowe's or TSC.

Looking at how much I just vented....me thinks I might have had more than a couple fingers of bourbon and should probably shut down for the night. LOL

Have a great night and morning everyone! With that I'll leave you with a winter pic of the homestead (truck in the way).

Snow looks pretty.

Sounds like fun with your dog. We used to have Brittanies and raised two litters. It was nice having so many puppies when our boys were young. The boys knew the puppies were theirs only temporarily, and were not upset when they had to give them up to buyers, although we kept one puppy with our two adults. I really miss those dogs. They were great bird dogs and house dogs. I've only seen one flying squirrel...it moved into one of our birdhouses.

A much wetter morning than predicted, our one inch of rain is now a flood warning for Eastern NC, two inches of rain at least so far with more coming today as it looks like the slow moving system heads offshore and North. This looks like the official beginning of Spring mud.
51 degrees out, about the high of the day. The week ahead is not warm at all but I didn't expect much more for the first week in Feb.
Trying to figure out how to get onions planted though...will wait for a sunny day to sneak them in. Lot of sneaking, have about 500 seedlings to plant. Thankfully a finger or dibble works just fine in this soft soil.

a new super moon is coming in Wednesday for you star watchers.

LS, very impressive stats, and thank you for your service. Sounds like RNG has an excellent plan. He should write a retirement book, and include a blank copy of his .xls.

Glad you guys got some snow, and hope you get more needed precip.

Enjoy the day all.

46 and still raining...should hit a high of 45? Got about 1.5 inches so far. Creek overflowed the bridge for the first time in a long while, as the bottom is flooded. Every step we took on our hike in the rain felt like walking on a sponge...ground was frozen just a couple of inches under the surface in the shady areas.

Think I finally figured the last tax and financial statement puzzles, and finished last night. Now I'll write my "annual report" cover letter and send out to the farm owners. The state makes me withhold tax on any LLC member who lives out of state, which two do, and the state debits our checking account for it.

BEF, I admire your organizing your old photos...something I need to do, but likely will not get to.

Drew, I have an 8 foot square heavy drag, and I had to get a cheap TSC boom pole, and attach, to maneuver it. The way I rigged it, I can lift it entirely off the ground. I've never dragged it with the prongs down...would take up too much ground, but otherwise does a good job.

Thanks. Yes, very unwieldy to work with and of course my three point lift isn't going to pick up something 8 feet long. I was thinking of taking the original pallet back out to the side of the field where I left it, sure aren't going to drag it across my lawn to the barn  and try to use the forks to pick it up and put it back, somehow, on the skinny pallet. That boom pole makes a lot more sense.

Good morning! 40˚ heading to 60˚ North wind, sunny. Today looks like a good day to paint the back porch (South) railing.

0 going to a high of 12 and mainly sunny. Wind NE 6 mph.

I have nothing planned for today. We will see how long that lasts.

RNG; Chicken makes a good lure. Now all you gotta do is blast the little booger to kingdom come.

If it is not afraid of people, then there is a good chance it is rabid. Do you really want to take the chance of getting rabies?

Have a safe day all,

Drinking first cup of coffee. 26° with light snow this morning. Heading to 27° with snow accumulating to 3". Not much planned today.
LS and others. Thanks for your service.
Drew. I had a spring harrow for years. Used a boom pole to lift it off ground at end of field and take it back to it's storage place. Boom pole works with lots of attachments.
RNG, retirement is the best thing I ever did. This is my 14th year.
Prayers for those not feeling up to par.
Good Morning All.

I'd never heard of a pulse charger until you mentioned the Battery Saver, Ron. Looked 'em up and their pitch makes sense, especially the way the plates stay clean over the years. The 2701 looks like their best model, but for some reason Amazon doesn't stock them. I have a note into BS asking if that 50W charger would harm a small motorcycle battery. I'd like to use just one charger on everything, and rotate it through the fleet. I'll let you guys know if they get back to me.
Did you mean 1702? I think the 2365 LCD has replaced it.

42 outside this AM. That might be the high for today. Some wet (snow/rain/sleet/mix) is expected later on tonight.

I had a pretty good day yesterday, left the wife for a short time while I went to restock the food cabinet and fridge. It's a good way to de-stress too. Well seems even God was telling me to chill as I got home. I noticed out back, there was a lot of activity as I unloaded from the car to the house.

I hope all have a safe and productive day today.

Wonderful picture Mike. You and your wife have been through the ringer, and it will take a while to get back where you were.
Very important you take care of yourself during all this. None of us are indestructible for sure. I've been through what you've been through, repeatedly,
and just watch your BP. Good time for some annual bloodwork to make sure you are doing ok. All that stress, every day, every night, is very hard on a person.
Take good care of yourself too. I bet your wife wants that too. Being physically active, if you can, is really helpful. Sometimes I just needed to wail on something.
You get so wound up inside and you just have to release the spring. Eating good healthy foods and hydrating certainly can't hurt. No more double stacked corn beef on rye.
well, for a little bit. ;)

In the 50's the reading material was a bit different than today to say the least. The Readers Digest was always a source of a good two or three hour read.
Very conservative family oriented stuff I knew was "old fashioned" when I read it, particularly the Mother will have the house cleaned and the dinner ready for when
Dad came home from his terribly hard day at the office in his coat and tie. I knew that wasn't exactly right.
My mother was going to law school while we were growing up, and I wound up with both parents being lawyers.
All of us kids had to pitch in and do housework and there was no whining. Washed all my own clothes.
Khaki pants and Niagara spray starch. It wasn't fun...but actually some good skills to learn later in single life.

But i do remember one huge thing in the Reader's Digest. I learned it was good to laugh. Why?
Laughter Is The Best Medicine. It had its own section.
I bet a lot of you read and laughed at those oh so tame jokes.
So if you can laugh at yourself and laugh at at least some of Life, you can't help but feel better.

Even if you can say, we made it home, and laugh about that. Big smiles have a way of leading to grins
which have a way of leading to a laugh. Stay positive. Sometimes you just have to go further than you thought.
All in the good work of life.

Anyone who drives a tractor knows that. ;)

Besides, I started off my day by getting crapped on. Guess I'll have to get out the ladder when the rain stops.

I dated and labeled a couple thousand previously scanned digital pictures today. Digital pics are great, a script pulls the date and prepends to the filename. Then i add location and info about the pic. The problem is the old photos. Ones taken with dates on pics are a little easier, but still have to manually put in the date. For older undated pics, i had them in albums by date already.
In the days of film i took 600 - 800 pics a yr. With digital its 2000 or so.

They can be dated wrong if you’ve used them in other files, then they will show the date they were included in the new file. The original copy will still be correct.

It’s a rainy cool morning, warm spell over.
February is almost here, it’s the shortest month and with March comes spring. The world greens again, fresh growth abounds. But with it we must leave behind that which can no longer regenerate, but is part of what has been, but was the foundation of all that is to be.
