Riptides about the same price for either one

Riptides, wife had a Malibu Maxx that she loved. Because it was easy to get in. But watching her get out was another story. Got her the Chevy Captiva and now all she has to do is sit herself on seat. Then swing her legs around. Reverse the operation to get out. No more pulling herself to stand up after sitting so low in Malibu. Friend bought a Vibe when his wife was sick. It had a swivel seat that made it easy for his wife to get in and out of car. Lots of options out there to help people that have disabilities get in and out of a vehicle. Maybe there are upgrades that will work on your current vehicles.

Yeah, she is in the No Bending, Lifting and Twisting mode for the next year or so. Right now, I call on Uber or Lyft SUV services to move her around. It gave us a good opportunity to get a feel for the vehicles needed for this new lifestyle. We were using a trash bag on the seat with lots of pillows to get her in and out of the vehicle. She has better movement now, post-op +29, but the No BLT really makes it interesting. That and the height of the vehicles sort of rules out everything I have available to me now. So it's trade-in/refresh time.

Good morning! Reporting in with the coldest temps this morning at 15˚. (at least until Bird wakes up.) Whipper and gray2 were by the fire all night. We still have not had to turn on the heater, inside temp 68-69˚.

Edit: Ok Ron has the coldest, he posted while I was typing.

:laughing:Yeah, Bird slept late this morning; latest in a long time. But the NWS says our temperature at 6 a.m. was +4 (already started up and now 5 degrees going for a high of 32 today) so Ron still has the coldest.

2 and going to a high of 21. Wind SW10 mph. A few flurries in the forecast.

There was about an inch of snow came down yesterday. Not worth the fuel to move it, so I will wait.

The only thing in my game plan for today is a dump run. Ever since we stopped composting, the bears have stayed away. This is a good thing as far as I am concerned. I got into a fight with one insurance company over bears and incinerators. They didn't like the fact that I had an incinerator for burning garbage and were going to cancel the policy, but wouldn't pay for bear damage after they got into the stored garbage. So I told them to 'stuff their insurance where the sun don't shine'. The company I have now is great. I don't know if they will pay out if I have a claim, but so far no claims.

You guys that are not used to the cold and snow, stay safe

22 out now supposed to get to 30, about 6" of snow on the ground, about time to go brush of and start everything up and start plowing.

Temps went dow to 13˚ before sunrise so I ended up the fourth coolest in the world on the morning thread. With clear skies it looks like we will have 4 hours of above freezing temps this afternoon.

Good morning! Low this morning was 11, wind chill 1*, going to a high of 42, still very very dry. Got a bunch done in the shop yesterday, still a ways to go. After at least my 3rd cup if coffee, I may get the initiative to go back out again. Have to make it an early day if I do go out there.. Have to get up at 03:00 to go back on duty. Why do the 4 days off go by like it's 2, but the 3 days of work seem like it's 5?

Riptides, glad to hear about your outdoor adventure with the Mrs. Hope she continues to improve.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out for all that need them.

For all those in the south and up the east coast, eventually the weather will break for you guys, hang in there! I can't believe the rivers freezing and causing flooding.

3°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 29° today. Looks like we get back above freezing tomorrow.

Wngsprd, my '14 Kia Soul is the first car I've ever had that I waited 5,000 miles for an oil change. I had always done it at 3,000, and thought 5 was a bit of a stretch, but decided to give it a go this time on the manufacturer's recommendation. It has 115,xxx+ miles on it now, and has had zero engine issues. It still feels odd, but I admit it seems to be just fine. I can't imagine waiting 10k, though. That seems like it's just asking for trouble.

The boy got rid of one of his derelict vehicles yesterday evening. He'd bought an identical Honda Accord to replace the engine in his flood car, but finally realized he simply isn't going to ever make the transfer. Watching the guys who came to pick it up last night had me almost cringing as they made several attempts to push it onto a trailer by hand. They finally used another vehicle to push it on. Looked like they were gathering pieces of broken grill afterwards. I never did see them secure it to the trailer before they pulled away. Hope they made it where they were going without killing someone. One more hoopty to go, then he can concentrate on the beater F-150 he seems determined to lose all his money in ... which also breaks down about every other day. He seems uninterested in any advice from either us or his father, so the hard way learning experiences keep piling up.

5F actual, with a windchill of -10F ... overnight low was 1F. Supposedly sunny according to WeatherBug ... but it looks overcast and snowing to me.

The Woman reported yesterday that she didn't know if I'd be able to get out with the car as the driveway is getting worse, with piles left randomly all over the length of it.

I need to run out today, so I guess I'll find out.

Got the dishes done yesterday, two more filters cleaned out, two others hooked back up and running, a partial water change done in the tank that has the Julie colony in it, and around 30 gallons of hard water drawn to season and come up to temp.

Also got the wood cut to frame in the utility closet door for the fish room ... along with handling some email traffic and phone calls.

Oh no, slipped to 7th place. Pretty soon I have to start from the other end and be the 10 warmest.

Treadmill just got delivered at 9:45. They gave me a noon till 4 delivery window.
Guy had already parked in neighbors driveway, pulled it on a handcart thru neighbors yard, across my driveway, thru my front yard, instead of bringing it down my driveway, dumped it on the front porch, then knocked, and was walking back to his truck when i called to him from the garage, "over here". He goes, "oh" and reluctantly loaded it back on the handcart, back thru the yard, and put it in the garage.

Now i need to get tractor out and carry around to basement door.

Sun just came out.

Still mid 30s here, windy and cold very overcast but no snow. A dusting is our forecast and I hope it’s accurate. Went north and south and left us alone for a change. Already had two major storms.

Speaking of oil changes, most domestic manufacturers now just tell you to wait for the notification, not a certain mileage. Last time I did Lynn’s Edge Limited I changed it when it said ‘Change Oil Soon’. Smelled fine clearish tan color you could easily see through. I checked the records and it had 10877 miles on it. Looked, smelled and felt fine, not low and pressure was normal. Cars and oil are not what they use to be.

   / Good morning!!!! #68,274
My new pilot is overdue for oil change. Notice comes on at 7500miles, near 10k now with synthetic. I stopped changing my own oil yrs ago, except on tractors.
I ordered new oil filter for the massey, its way overdue. Could not find an original massey filter online. Last time got one from dealer. So order an equivalent. Might check with dealer, good friend of mine now works there.

4:30am as I step outside to clear 3" snow 25F,might reach 30F....couple more inches yet to fall.
After work snow removal ...hmmmm
As I look out window last evening notice possum eating all the bread Mrs. throw out for the birds than slowly walk back into shed, guess I better pay attention when pawing around in the shed now.
....Well the generator off to repair shop this coming Saturday...

Enjoy the day all.

A little good news here, I guess. In spite of TXU's estimate of $226 to $227, our electric bill for the last 34 days is just $178.65 for 1851 kWH, or $0.0965154 per kWH. Oncor just got some tax relief from the State and is passing it on to the consumers, but I don't know much about that plan, or whether that is what affected my bill this month or not.

But when nearly all prices keep going up, my average monthly electric costs have been going down:

2013 - $160.35
2014 - $157.54
2015 - $142.27
2016 - $134.62
2017 - $128.82

I don't really expect that to continue, but I guess we can hope.

Good morning everyone'.

Mid 20ºF's earlier this AM. It is now 30ºF; today's pedicure high temperature. The snow is tapering down. It looks like 6" fell so far.

The snow is too deep for the bully, food hogging mourning doves. It's interesting to see them "stall/feather" coming in to the bird feeders dragging their tail feathers like the tail hook on a carrier based aircraft testing snow/landing depth.

Tractor is warming up for today's snow management. I'll drink some more coffee (not that I need more) and start the snow operation ~ 11:00AM (..maybe:rolleyes:)

Buppies- Bluebirds are a rare gift sighting around here.

My Father was in the Battle of the Bulge as well. It really affected him. He rarely talked about it, but from what limited experiences he shared and/or I found out about I can understand. He hated the cold as well.

Once we replaced the wood stove. Wifey has become quite fond of 80F in her "lair" (living room). I like cold. I tend to stay at the much cooler, other end of the house with the computer. Hot weather really messes me up.

My prayers, best wishes, and + thoughts for all especially those medically/physically/situationally challenged.

Not that cold this morning 23*, yesterday's high was 45*. It's overcast this morning, becoming clear this afternoon. With the high in the mid 40's and just a light wind.

Still not much going on here today

Hope everyone stays safe and warm.
CWB.

Jay, at least the doves stay on the ground for me.
Now bluejays, there's an alpha bully. Seems to be the king of the feeders
in most places. Well, until Mr. Hawk flies over...
or until the squirrels chase them all away. I wish I had woodpeckers that would come peck the
squirrels in the head. Anyone know what species that is?...

RS, thanks. Had to go read this to figure out all the acronyms, all the V stages. Printed it all out for reference.

good trip to Kubota dealer to check in on Super A. No disasters. Well, one. Needed a new radiator, had no less than five leaks in old one per radiator shop and they said they wouldn't guarantee it for ten minutes. Ok, ok, almost there. They said it was ready to go home except for the electronic ignition part that, even with their help, I ordered the wrong one of.
Actually, they had a few more seals, including the pto assembly. Not that I'm going to use the pto. So the new radiator for 500 bucks, including new frame, was the only surprise.
They said there was almost no oil in the trans, it had all leaked out, which along with the air filter oil bath cup that was bone dry and rusted, tells me the prior owner sure knew a lot less than
he let on. Rear original leather seals on bearings, so they had scored the rear axles a little but this is common and they put some jiffy something over the shafts, but otherwise said it looked good. Engine seemed fine they said, along with the new ignition system, so I don't have points to mess with, I put in a new coil and new alternator. The latter is nothing more than a small inexpensive 65 amp car alternator. Unlike my other tractors, parts for this old girl are surprisingly reasonable.

The service manager reminded me that Beaufort County agriculture was built on this tractor, every tobacco farmer had one.
And apparently they will always be in demand.

Parts manager reminded me that onions go in Feb 1, yeah yeah, that's why I want my Super A back and he laughed.
I guess onions don't mind snow; actually I do know they are cold tolerant as is most cabbage and some lettuce. And for sure collards but I've had
my fill of them.
