Good morning! Reporting in with the coldest temps this morning at 15˚. (at least until Bird wakes up.) Whipper and gray2 were by the fire all night. We still have not had to turn on the heater, inside temp 68-69˚.

Edit: Ok Ron has the coldest, he posted while I was typing.

good morning all, 25 this morning going to 30 and 100% chance of snow. we have almost 1 in now and they are calling for up to another in. Hope to make a jig to hold the auger bits for my brace while i sharpen them. Maybe get a couple sharp. might just take it easy with all of this snow. :D

Drew, With the 16-16-16 you put down less and get the same amount of power, also potatoes tend to get scab here if you put fresh manure on them so you are doing well letting it break down. Do you have a side dresser for your A. that would help with the corn.

Have a great day, prayers for you that need them. Ed

I just can't bring myself to wait that long on oil change, especially on a brand new engine...so 5,000 was the time for me. The dealer gets to change it at 10K.

I did the same thing on my Outback. It's funny, the Euro car makers try to hold us back on oil changes and the American car dealers try to get us in every 5000 miles whether we need it or not, and usually we don't...just a marketing/sales opportunity for dealer. Yes sir we have the 142 point super deluxe checklist we go over for only $199.95.
No. Are car engines that much different than our other engines where the manuals shout out not to run it hard for first 50 hours and change the oil between 5 and 50 hours?
Maybe we are old school but I'd like the production metal bits out of my oil filter and engine altogether asap. Are car engines built so perfectly today this is now unnecessary?

If you can install magnetic drain plugs in your new engines, the first oil change is always interesting.

Whether the oil plug has a one time use compressible metal washer is the real concern for me. Sure don't want the dealer coming back and saying that since I didn't put a new washer on, the new engine is on me.

21° and light snow. An inch or so overnight, not the 2-4" that was hyped.

My dad keeps his house so hot, we open windows in winter when visiting. He is almost 94, has free gas from his otherwise non producing well. And /or he has wood furnace going.
If you ever watched ww2 movies about the battle of the bulge, and the snowy cold winter, well he was there in person, guess he deserves the heat.

When i spent time in England, back in the 80s, country inns used boilers for radiator heat, and they turned them off at night. It got cold in the room at night, but they would crank it back up in the morning.

Ok, like concentrated wash detergent, use less. I'm not into fresh manure at all, this is all commercial packaged cow manure that isn't the least bit "hot". expensive to buy this way...again, if it grows this year, I'll come up with better solutions next year. I do have the fertilizer tank and all the attachments for the Super A. As long as the downtube can be angled to the sides, looks like that will work. How high do you wait for the corn to come up before giving it more fertilizer? And how far from stalk to apply? Thanks.
Sounds like corn and potatoes like a lot of fertilizer. 7 varieties of heritage non=gmo corn going in, thankfully farmer not planting any corn next to it. Maybe half an acre of corn, half an acre to a full acre of potatoes. I'll plant as many potatoes as i get in three 50 pound bags, cut up. Plus I ordered a couple of three pound bags of exotics, purple potatoes, etc.

Bought a lot of veggie spray yesterday at feed store. There is one, Bayer I think, that says it does fruit trees and vegetables. And then it quotes a primary ingredient I've never heard of.
Could be toxic as can be. I can, and will, spray Neem oil until someone's cows come home, but that won't be enough per the locals.
Will use my orchard sprayer for this, good second purposing. It has a boomless sprayer on the rear. Tow behind gas powered Northern Tools, not much height on axles though so that sure cuts down on utility for corn. Or I can just drive along and fog the rows with the hand nozzle. Will try to use boom first if I don't waste too much product, but inside the fenced area, will use hand gun solely.

Don't want to kill all the good bugs either...not with two orchards needing pollination not too far away. Which is why when I see crop dusters I cringe, have no idea what is coming down from the sky.

Looks like RNG May be getting a new state and not even have to move.

'New California' movement seeks to divide the Golden State in halfhttp://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/01/17/new-california-movement-seeks-to-divide-golden-state-in-half.html

My sister, in Riverside will also reside in New California.

When we grew a few acres of potatoes on the farm, we would hand spread some 10.10.10 in the row before covering. Same with sweet corn. Field corn we used a 2 row planter, it has fertilizer bins, not sure the spread rate, probably adjustable.

27 outside with flurries. Not much going on, need to get my cell phone repaired and some food.

Took wife outside yesterday, up and down the sidewalk. That cheered her up but took a lot out of both of us.

I also need to start thinking about our return trip to NYC for a follow up in less than three weeks. That, and it looks like I am going to have to get another vehicle. The cars and trucks just don't agree with her new way of moving. Looking at some cross-over types.

Have a great day all, be safe. Prayers to us all!

Buckeye my father was there as well he always disliked snow. I used to call dad when it snowed and give him a hard time. He would grumble then laugh and say it would be gone soon

Still snowing here about and supposed to until lunch time. Left myself in a bad spot tractor in wrong place with cut up tree branches in bucket. If we get more than called for I'm up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Over 2500 feet of driveway to clean and I do not have it in me to shovel

Rick I noticed that as well, wonder if it will gain traction

12 out this morning, but the real, story being it will be in the 30s later this week and weekend. Dang near like summer! I have a inch or two of new snow in the driveway which means I have to get the tractor going after work tonight. You know, so no one gets stuck. ...Nothing to do with just wanting to play with the tractor. Lol

Thanks. so the granular fertilizer gets dumped right down with the seed or potato. Like I thought, these two are fertilizer driven. And if you put the fertilizer only in the hill, you aren't fertilizing the weeds in the furrows. I know corn takes a lot out of the soil, not sure of potatoes. All the remnants will get disc'd back in, after I bush hog the corn stalks.

Riptides, wife had a Malibu Maxx that she loved. Because it was easy to get in. But watching her get out was another story. Got her the Chevy Captiva and now all she has to do is sit herself on seat. Then swing her legs around. Reverse the operation to get out. No more pulling herself to stand up after sitting so low in Malibu. Friend bought a Vibe when his wife was sick. It had a swivel seat that made it easy for his wife to get in and out of car. Lots of options out there to help people that have disabilities get in and out of a vehicle. Maybe there are upgrades that will work on your current vehicles.
