The clever digital clocks went forward an hour last night. Nature has gone into dont-mess-with-me mood and compensated with thicker cloud, so the new 7 am is just as dark the old 7 am :confused3:

Tried out the tree catcher yesterday, to save the fence from getting crushed. It worked !

a tree catcher, that's something new.

Disappointing amount of rain so far, only .21 inches and the system from the West seems to have finished. Maybe more rain from the South, hope so. We've had 2.4 inches of rain this month instead of 7, and now the forecast shows dry weather out for a solid ten days. Gorgeous weather too, days in the 70's, nights in the mid to upper 50's. That's pretty warm, which is fine, but no rain in sight. Looks like I'll be back to watering trees.

This would be a nice time to go to the shore actually, nice days, cool nights, no people

66 degrees in light rain, high of 73. Maybe some higher winds due in later, should make a nice crop of leaves and pine needles.

Good morning all, 58 this morning with the temp dropping all day with 34 tonight. We had some rain during the night but don't know how much. Have the pantry finished except for the lam. flooring. Should not take long, might get to it Tuesday.

Eric, that is a great idea and when you get done cutting trees you can use it as a saw horse.

Still praying for Whipper, and others. Have a great day Ed

60 and rain going to 70. Hard rain woke me up about 2 hours ago, and just decided to get up and make coffee that I was excited to try that I roasted yesterday. Forecast calls for rainy all day, but the radar doesn't look that way.

Got the bush hogn done and some garden clean up, but the day flew by, just like the flocks of blackbirds that seem to have gathered earlier than usual this year. Ate some pecans from our trees yesterday...all 8 nuts that were left for me by the generous squirrels :)...probably more on the ground when I look later today. They were the smallest size I can remember, but the tastiest.

Eric, that was quite the solution to your fence protection. Did you have a way to let the tree down slowly, or was it a fast drop?

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 37° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 45° with chance of snow/rain in the morning. Got oil changed in 3 of the 4 engines I had on list. Was planning on running chipper this morning. But if it's going to rain will put it off and it's oil change until another day. Need to clean out skimmer on garden of the leaves that have collected in it. Then watch some NASCAR in afternoon.
My niece, husband and baby lost everything in a explosion and fire at their apartment in Florence, TX. They and other residents are safe with no injures. They are a military family from Fort Hood. Getting lots of support from the community.
Eric, good idea to save fence. I see you are making other uses of the blue rope.
Don, more best wishes for Whippers safe return.
David S, more batteries. How many amp/hrs do you have?
Good Morning All.

44 right now...high in the low 60's and looks like heavy rain coming through late.

Since I'm feeling better, I have some work related chores to do. Reckon it'll be a good day for that.

Got oil changed in 3 of the 4 engines I had on list.

I'm going to be busy next week on this too. I just went to my "engines" list, which I keep as a running competition with a very close friend
who also loves motors and machinery and so far we are neck and neck at 25 "small" engines each, including tractors. I think I may be up one on him, the new little
Massey may have him eating my row dust...:D This is why I have to use a labeler for maintenance, each motor has a label with what was done when. On the little engines that get ten hours or less each year, I go two years on the oil change. I'm using fully synthetic anyway. Not like it wears out.
so I have about a dozen to do. Lot of Echo spark plugs to change. I buy them in bulk.
And I enjoy every minute of it. To me it's just a matter of taking care of things. I got such lectures as a kid
on that from my father and Naval captain Uncle. My uncle wanted everything shipshape. Any of you sailors can fully appreciate the jobs the low man on the totem pole (is that still pc?...)
gets, being the youngest of three brothers.

I still haven't fully unpacked the garage, my second floor and one room in the barn, since I moved here three years ago.
No wife to nag me to get it done.
I can just imagine my grandfather pointing at that messy room in the barn. He wouldn't have to say anything, just point that cane.
And there was zero question about disobeying. So being raised in that somewhat strict environment, I had no qualms about
drifting the Cub Cadet in wet grass behind the big pine trees where no one could see me. If I got it just right I could get the rear end sliding out
on a curve. And this was before drifting... Shiny yellow little garden tractor, three on the floor, age fourteen, life was good.
So now when I see teenagers doing really stupid stuff, well.........

I know someone for whom this is not a day of rest.
Farmer, how are you doing with all your fans? What a huge job.
Big infrastructure expense. And considering that I'm still paying two bucks a pound for chicken breasts,
I'm not being successful in getting you a raise either. I'm willing to go to $2.19...how about a nice ten cent increase per pound?
Then you could have electronic fans you could control from your laptop. Part of your fully automated computer controlled HVAC operation.
Have already talked to Santa about this.
As well as another big cab tractor for you.
Get in line.

I've used up my tractor allotment.
And I've already had three wives.
I can live without more tractors but not sure about a wife.
Time for me to talk to Santa seriously about that.

and what's on your list for Santa?

I have 15 engines to care for. 4 have not been used in years. Properly drained of gas and fresh oil. 3 are 2 stroke. No oil changes. Plugs maybe. But drained of gas if not used yearly. 3 get oil change every 2 years. Because they do not get used enough to need changes yearly. Sold the big oil user last spring. 15 quarts.
Saw you next post. Maybe you should make a trip out west. Lots of eligible single ladies in the snowbird parks. :D You could stop by Don's place. Maybe he has a Cousin that needs a mate.
Christmas list has good health for wife and I on top.

Got corners trimmed trimmed by baseboard and ceiling roll this morning two coats I'm sure then baseboard. I have to leave today but wife stays for delivery tomorrow of new washer/dryer combo. The low this morning was 27*, yesterday's high was 68*. Today's going to be in the low 60's, partly cloudy with some wind.

Didn't get all the firewood cut yesterday. We got sidetracked by another neighbor. Her son was visiting and had about a dozen of his friends with him. They came out from New York City, for the weekend. Most of then had never been out west. They wanted to ride horses and 4 wheelers. They also wanted to shot some guns. So we helped them with doing that. They all got to try and shot some clay pigeons. I think a good time was had by all. I was impressed with how safe they all were handling the guns. The women did better then the men.

We are going to try and get the rest of the wood cut today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

A lot of rain so far, cool and damp, a lot more rain predicted, but not sure we will get it unless that system over Eastern NC stays inland.

Good Morning!!!! 64F @ 8:30AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Sunny. High 79F. Winds light and variable.

Each day has been a little cooler than the one before, and it looks like the temps will take another, bigger drop tomorrow and into the rest of the week. First Pacific storm of the new rain year is supposed to arrive for the weekend, perhaps bringing enough moisture to finish putting out all the fires. One can only hope.

Sounds like a little Yankee ingenuity worked out for your fence protector, Eric. What plans do you have next for those timbers?

Good deal showing the fun side of firearms to the kids from NYC, CWB. I bet some of them had never used one before?

Good luck with the new washer/dryer, Buppies! Speed Queen seems to be the brand to get these days.

Before the rain hits I need to get up on the roof and clean out the stove pipe on the wood stove, and get the bead blaster emptied and tarped. Wouldn't hurt to put the tractor on a charger for a day, either. And the gravel on the driveway needs scraped and leveled after the brief shower we had a week or so again. But today I'll be polishing that other rim, having finished only one yesterday. Sore hands had me in no hurry to do them both, so I spent some time learning how they had been laced and what options are available for replacing the spokes. With nice clean hubs and sparkly rims, the old spokes look even worse, so I'll make some calls Monday to get new ones ordered.

Also experimented with some Nice'n'Easy aluminum window cleaner on an engine casting, and found that a stainless steel wire brush and some gentle scrubbing nicely restored the factory finish. Not quite sure yet how to use the stuff on the engine itself, though, as the acids it contains need to be flushed thoroughly or they'll rust and corrode everything they touch. May end up pulling the engine, easy enough because at this point it's held in by only two studs at the bottom.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday...

40F, overcast, and wet @ 12:30.

Got the 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid and 2 gallons of bar and chain oil picked up from TSC last night. Also got a bag of sunflower seeds and 4 suet cakes.

Grabbed 4 gallons of K1 @ the Speedway on the way home. Pricey ($3.40 a gallon plus tax) compared to regular diesel ... but nowhere near as expensive as it is at TSC ($8 per gallon ...)

Still have to unload everything out of the car ...
