Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 5:00AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Sunny. High 72F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

The Red Flag fire warning continues through today, then a Fire Weather Watch starts Friday night, continuing through Saturday. Fortunately, the winds predicted for yesterday weren't as bad as those of last Sunday, and any growth seen in the nearby wildfires was due to better mapping, not actual spread.

Read an article in the San Jose Mercury News that seems to link problems with electrical power lines to the wine country fires in Napa and Sonoma counties. Worse, it claims that PG&E (the local utility) was fined a few years back for diverting 80 million dollars from their tree trimming program into company profits. If the links can be proven, that could leave the utility liable for billions in damage as well as additional fines. And you know where they'll get the money to pay up, right? Yes, the rate payers, like yours truly.

Best wishes for speedy recoveries, Randy and Drew. None of us are getting any younger or heal as fast as we used to. But if you're getting more like me, we sometimes get impatient and stubborn, and try to do things with muscle that would be better done with hydraulics, levers, or helping hands. It's hard to just take a step back and think of the possible repercussions, but that's what we all need to do, especially from a safety standpoint. Otherwise, we'll end up on the injured list instead of enjoying the fruits of our labor.

IxNay on the ballistics calculator app, Eric. If word got out that such things existed, we'd have to be licensed to use them here in Kalifornia.:mur:

Reattached the saddlebag lids, mounted the locks, and installed the mounting studs, finishing the job. Hopefully that's it for periwinkle blue paint for a while.

Been having problems with bandsaw blades dulling too quickly when cutting stainless steel, so ordered a 100' coil of fancy Lenox Diemaster II bimetal material. It showed up packed in a bubble envelope, and the dispenser box was broken in several spots. This let the coiled blade spring out as soon as the envelope was opened, a really nasty surprise. Got that under control and made up a blade to try, and it seemed to work fine on mild steel. But it barely cut a stainless steel screw, and was worthless for anything after the attempt. Now I'm wondering if what I received was really what was ordered, so I'll be on the phone later to see what the company that sold it to me has to say about it.:(

Worked a little more cleaning up the rear wheel, trying out some hard felt buffing bobs. Didn't like the way they dug in and left little ridges in the metal, so switched to some softer cotton ones. They worked well, but were too big to reach between the spokes, so some smaller ones are on order. Also figured out that the bearing seals can be updated from felt to more modern lip seals, and have a note out to the German supplier to see if they have the parts.

Hang in there, gang. Friday's comin'!

Good morning.
39 and going to a high of 59F I am at home until Sunday morning, then back to the 'city' for the last of the season. I hope to get laid off on Monday.
My Jeep has an appointment on the 19th for brakes, shocks and tires. That should cost me about 3 grand. Last time I bought tires, they (5) were $1700. Shocks will cost me $100./corner. The brakes are the big ?? as it needs new calipers and wheel cylinders as well as rotors, pads/shoes and drums.
The Dunlop tires I take off it will be used on the trailer, so I am not scrapping tires with 3/4 of the tread still on them.

52°F and cloudy with some drizzle this morning, going up to 66° today. Looks like we're getting a brief warmup this weekend, getting to 88° on Saturday, until another front pushed it back out on Sunday.

HVAC guy finished the new system yesterday by cleaning up some wiring around the furnace unit and installing the remaining vent covers. Carpenter is coming tomorrow to install remaining interior doors, and the electrician will be there Saturday to finish his work. Wifey has flooring installation scheduled for the 26th & 27th. Going to take those days off the be there to help move stuff around. Progress.

RNG, isn't that BMW blue close to your van blue? very nice.
PJ, thanks for helping the economy...hope it turns out wonderfully. Sounds great.

Dentist ground off a high spot that we all think caused this problem, a high spot he should have ground off before...and of course charged
me 75 bucks to do so belatedly. Sigh. At least no root canal. Yet. All his poking and prodding has me aching again.

Got my hair cut and yakked with the barber for awhile since no one was coming in. Nice guy, in his early 70's I think, we talk about tractors
and my crazy neighbor and the weather. All normal.

Picked up a gallon of exterior paint at Lowes. I looked at the pricing and thought immediately this place is super expensive and has no competition.
Plus there are no premixed paints any more. They have to custom mix everything and the range was 24 to 51 dollars a gallon. I took the 40, primer and paint together,
not sure what that really means other than it has some penetrant (I hope) in it. Dark green for a small pump house whose paint had almost entirely weathered off. I really should have ripped it apart and replaced the bad siding, but a couple of coats of paint will get a little more life out of this one. The roof is on hinges, smart idea over a well. Isn't used, but my street water has a connection here. My water bill is so small, less than 30 a month, even with all my watering, that I just can't justify what could be thousands of dollars once things are checked. Always thought it would be a good idea to do all my plant watering out of the well, but not worth the repair cost. Anyhow...have to paint the thing, which was faded red before. But not today, way too humid outside, with showers predicted.

I'm headed down to the barn now that all errands are run and will split my time between the Gravely mower deck and the carryall. I did first look at getting three point pallet forks instead, higher load rating too, and use a nice new plastic pallet for a base, but doing pallet fork work going in reverse is a real no no with my neck so if I have to pick up a pallet, I'll use the kubota facing forward.

Going to get my Bosch portable table saw out, the one that rolls, put it outside on the gravel, and start cutting those 2x6's. Going to look at TBN threads first to see designs of others. Lot of cool stuff has been made. Am most interested to see if others brought the sides boards all the way out or left a clear area to lay long pieces down.
I use my golf cart as a garden cart and I want to move all that stuff over to this carryall. So I likely will build small bins in front to hold tools, chemicals, etc.
Should be a fun project. Might have to make a bolt run.

RNG, isn't that BMW blue close to your van blue?

The saddlebag color has too much red in it for BMW blue, and it's just a solid color the previous owner had mixed to match his favorite coffee cup.

The paint on the van is a bright electric blue with a lot of pearl in it. Some day, maybe when pigs fly, I'll be able to take a picture of the two together.

PJ, thanks for helping the economy...

Doing my part, Drew. I also bought a new guitar amp this week for my studio. Wife wasn't all that thrilled about that, but I found out the company announced they were going out of business and liquidating everything, and this was the amp I've been wanting for several years. I got the last one they had. Even at their liquidation price, though, it was still a considerable boost to the San Diego economy.

74°F and no rain.

Ouch! Banging into things or having them bang into me doesn’t rate high on my list. Let’s be more careful - PLEASE

Had to make a trip to town to replenish 1 beer keg (5.19 g variety)

Be safe.

Have a great day

66F, wet, and completely overcast @ 12:30.

Got 0.72 inches of rain yesterday, about 0.01 so far today ... hopefully no more. Too wet to work outside. Friday and Saturday are looking dry though, with temps in the 70's.

High temps are getting to that point where the ground drying is going to be slow if there is continued precip.
